Ethical issues are unique. They are unlike any other problem in the world. It is not as easy as guilty or innocent, because it is not about right or wrong when dealing with ethical issues. It is primarily about moral or immoral, or what is believed to be the right course of action or what is believed to be the wrong course of action. Regardless of the outcome, ethical issues are not typical in the fact that there is nothing legal or illegal taking place. Ethical problems are dilemmas of the soul, for lack of a better term. These issues are resolved when a person comes to the conclusion that they feel they made the right decision. When an ethical problem presents itself, one can only hope they made the right decision, and move on to the rest of the issues in …show more content…
The second option could possibly provide closure or relief to her husband’s other family, but it could cause unwanted results as well. The third option is similar to the second option, with the only difference being how they find out and the age at which they find out.

All of the options for the woman are viable ones. Each of them have their own reasons that they can be chosen. The first will allow both the woman and the husband’s other family to continue to live their lives unburdened with the knowledge of the journals and other documents.
The second option will allow the woman and the husband’s other family to discover the truth, whatever that may be, about what kind of person their husband/father was. The third option also allows the husband’s other family to discover this knowledge, while the woman doesn’t find out before she dies. The woman could reasonably choose any of the options, but a decision like this one is hard to make.
The individual responding to the woman’s article suggests that she choose the first option. This is because no clear instructions from the husband were given, and he believes

Ethics is an important proponent when considering any decision. Knowing the difference between right and wrong is something everyone should know. However, the importance of ethics gets minimized when a decision that seems wrong actually has benefits. In the efforts of improving society, often ethics is violated. Sometimes in order for society to be better off as a whole, there has to be little sacrificing of ethical practices along the way to do so.

An issue which is mentioned throughout the story is the concept of “Ignorance is bliss”, which is an old cliche meaning what we don’t know can’t hurt us. While massaging his naked female neighbor’s body, the narrator is asked if he’s going to tell his mother. No, he answers. “So you even know that certain things are better left unsaid! You really are a devil” (Mahfouz, 13). The neighbor makes the obvious point that sometimes there are things that don’t have to be repeated, for the benefit of all the parties involved. Some might argue that the Truth will always come out, and by hiding it someone will end up being affected by it much more later on. But that is only if the information does get repeated. Knowledge doesn’t always have to be repeated, as was shown by our narrator and his neighbor. If the narrator had told his mother, would any of the parties benefit from this knowledge?

Margaret’s was fearful of the possibility that her husband would likely physically abuse her again for keeping the interview secret. Despite that possibility, she decided not to call the police. Her decision was shaped by a lot of factors. First, she felt unsecured since she had no emotional support from an immediate social circle. Her only known living relative, her aunt, was too old to assist. Her only close friend, Joan, lived overseas. Second, she was not financially secured to separate herself from Mr. Joe. Third, she claimed that it would be likely that her husband would be informed if she calls the police where he had friends. Lastly, she feared that the police would not do anything to solve her problems because she perceived that the persons working in the police “knew each other” implying that they will not do anything to hurt a fellow officer. This, she thinks would further escalate the situation. For this reason, Ms. Simeon decided not to call the police despite apparent fear of possible
