Change is inevitable. It’s probably one of the only things in life that we cannot stop or prevent. Professor Jech, in one of his lectures, used the phrase, “You cannot jump into the same river twice.” Even if a person was to jump into a river, get out, and jump back in to the exact same place, the water would not be the same as it was before. Change is constant. Doing nothing, sitting on a couch, the cells in your body are constantly at work, making changes. You can literally not be the same person you were 10 minutes ago. For the most part, people have accepted that change will happen and there’s nothing we can do to stop it in all areas of our lives. Why then, do we have such a difficult time allowing for changes within our religions? I was raised in a Christian home. A somewhat dysfunctional home, but everything was “ok” because we went to private Christian schools, and attended church on Sundays. During this time, we were taught a lot of things about God and Jesus. We were taught about all the things that we were supposed to do, all the things we weren’t supposed to do, and all the things that would condemn us to eternal …show more content…
What I mean by this is, I try to do my best to be a good person, as defined by me. Professor Jech told us in his last lecture, that there is a scripture in the bible that says “Work out your own Salvation!” I feel that in order to work out one’s own salvation, it’s an ongoing daily process. Something that you may have been against yesterday, may appear to a person in a new light, one that allows their views to change and thus their ideals to change along with it. Ideas that were taught to me as a young child, may not work for the beliefs that I have today and that’s ok. I don’t have to fear going to hell and being rejected by God simply because I don’t agree or have the same view of something that is written in the
Siddhartha Gautama saw that things are constantly in motion, changing from one thing to another and that inability to accept this change is what leads to human suffering (The Way of Awakening). Often times, survival hinges on the ability to adapt to changing times and evolve. The US Constitution is based on this principal that what worked in 1789, might not always work and that there should be room for evolution. So it’s no mistake that often times, a defining feature of a religion or system of beliefs is its ability to adapt, as the world around it changes. For most religions, the answer is passive, to themselves change. This can be seen in the Protestant Reformation, in which Martin Luther declared the ways of the Catholic Church to be outdated
The stages of change according to the Transtheoretical Model of Change consist of precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and termination. The Transtheoretical model of change includes flexible stages. This means that an individual could be in the maintenance stage one week, relapse the next week and be back in the precontemplation stage. The stages of change are not stagnant and an individual could go up/down a stage or stages of change depending on their development of self-efficacy. Ted goes through all of these stages of change on his journey to sobriety.
When you are born people are there to take care of you, love you, and guide you through life. As you grow up and life changes, you must take charge of your own life and not become so dependent on others. Throughout the course of life a person will encounter many changes, whether good or bad. In 'A&P';, 'The Secret Lion';, and 'A Rose for Emily';, the main characters in the stories are Sammy, the boys, and Miss Emily who face changes during their lives. All of these characters are in need of change. Because of their need for change, their lives will become much better. They are filled with wonder and awe about the world around them. No matter what type of person, everyone will encounter changes. It is part of the natural process. A person is encouraged to make these changes for the good. Sammy, the boys, and Miss Emily all encounter changes in their lives that fulfill their need to become something different.
As a person one might find that we follow a specific routine on the day to day basis. Sudden changes to these routines feels weird and out of place. In William Faulkner’s “A Rose For Emily” based in a fictional town called Jefferson taking place during the twentieth century. The time period is indeed an important factor because southern tradition was above all of the highest importance. This short story gives the audience details of life during that time in which they followed the values of southern tradition and the importance to never stray away from those traditions. The context of the story is laced with subliminal messages of humanities resistance to change.
Change 4 Life is a campaign that is set up to promote health and it also helps a range of individuals change their lifestyles by:
According to Oxford dictionary, transformation is a marked change in form, nature, or appearance. Personal change management is based on our preferences and available alternatives. In terms of organizations, however, the complex process of changes takes a lot of efforts and time. It involves drastic changes on organizational level that are caused by either external or internal triggers. The example of external change is when competition pushes our businesses to meet certain standards and provide the same or higher level of product quality or service. Internal triggers to change are when an organization detects internal faulty processes that fail to perform and should be corrected within an organization. There are lots of economic factors that could have transformational impact on our businesses. Therefore, force organizations to change and transform companies into something else. For instance, currency devaluation, market globalization, emerging companies, competition, the evolution of technology, the
Change is a word that I have constantly heard throughout my high school years. It is a transformation through which everyone goes whether it's for the better or for the worse. For me the meaning and value of change has helped me to focus on the goals I have to accomplish. For others, it is simply just a phase we go through. All of us here have been able to learn and develop from our changes to be come a better and successful person.
...ny one individual. You might ask three people what their personal definition of change is and receive three different answers. Some people offer very little resistance to change, they consider it the spice of life; it prevents stagnancy and maintains excitement through diversity. Some people view change like the U.S. viewed Russia during the cold war, as an inevitable threat that we must constantly monitor and prepare for. Other people react to change like an ostrich reacts to danger. They just stick their head in a hole and pretend it doesn't exist. Change is constantly happening all the time to everyone in someway or another. Whether or not change is accepted does not alter the fact that it exists however the way you accept change can alter the way you exist.
I was always lying to my parents, going out to parties, and staying at places I should not have been. My lifestyle was something I could not talk to my parents about, but I could confide in other friend 's parents or my youth pastors. I always wonder how different my teenage years would have been if my parents were more open and approachable about living life in God 's image. At home, we all knew of our faith and acted according, no cursing, no drinking, but we never specifically spoke of how difficult it can be to not fall into temptation. My parents were not understanding of any mistakes; it was, "you better not be doing those kinds of things," the end. This is not to say my parents are at fault for me being a rebellious teenager who lied to her parents and got drunk on the weekends because I was well aware of the sins I was committing and I attempted many times to
For obvious reasons, people reject change. Especially people who are close to each other because they feel that this change is going to seperate them and make them not as close as they used to be. They fight the change until they force the person to change. It's sad how this works, but in reality, it's probably the single most reason why people change. The people we love, love us so much that they want us to remain the way we are forever. Forever is a long time and not one person can always stay the same. Sometimes if the people we love would just accept the change and go with it, they would understand where the change was origianlly coming from.
As a child I can remember going to church every Sunday, sometimes twice; in the morning and the evening. I would sit in Sunday school and listen to stories from the Bible about right and wrong. As a child I never thought to question the Bible as it was the word of God. My moral compass has roots derived from these standards set forth in the Bible. Lawrence Kohlberg was an American psychologist whose work on moral development identified three major levels (DeGeorge, 22). Little did I know but at the time I was in a pre-conventional development level wherein most of the time I obeyed for fear of God’s punishment and my parents wrath as well.
According to Witkavitch (2010) life is about change and as human beings we’re always changing, growing, transforming and transitioning our lives. Our whole life is made up of change. It is relative to time and a natural component of our everyday life. Things change, they grow, they develop, they die, and something else shows up. There are many changes that can occur during a person’s lifetime. For instance, we all were once kids who changed into adults. With that said, as we age, dreams change. There will always be something new in life and we can’t expect everything to fall in place as we wish because the future is constantly changing. In the age of globalization, information and communication revolution changes are affecting our lifestyles, our ways of thinking, feelings and the way we act. Life changes everyday for a person in some way. Just like we expect the seasons to change and children to grow older. Some changes are very small and can affect your life in an enormous way. However, other events can be very important and could change your whole life such as getting married, getting arrested, having a baby, and even losing a close friend or relative. The important events that altered my life are coming the United States, playing club soccer, becoming a U.S. citizen, going to graduate school and studying abroad. In this in paper, I will discuss how these phases transformed my life physically and mentally.
There are many things that can cause a significant change in someone’s life. Things can change someone’s life in an instant, while some will slowly change someone’s life over time. Some changes are for the better, and some can be for the worse. In stories like the Outsiders and A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley, we had seen the characters’ lives change throughout the story. Some of the main things that can change someone’s life are moving, a close person to you dying, the people around you, and the events that happen.
During my seventh grade year, my church went to a youth rally at a local church on weekend. Because of this rally and the message it sent, I realized and wanted to give my life to Jesus through baptism. It was awesome, I got home as a young teenager and actually talked to my mom about what it really means to be a Christian and to pick up your cross and follow him. So that very next weekend, my dad baptized me in front of the whole church on Sunday morning. It was an awesome feeling knowing that because of Jesus’ grace and mercy, I will be with him one day and spend eternity with him. Although I was on top of the world at this point, I still didn’t know fully what I had gotten into. So the next few years, I live the typical Christian life. I was trying to be the perfect person by doing the right stuff, I would try not to cuss, I would try to wear as many WWJD bracelets as I could so that I wouldn’t have to talk to them about Christ and they could just see it on my wrist, I would not join in on conversations with my friends that I knew were not right, I was just living life on cruise control.
Everyone in this world have their own culture and ideas of how the world should be. They have things that have been in their customs for years or even thousands of years. These things are supposed to “keep us united.”(Bansal) But what happens when our own cultures and ideas get challenged by new things that represent change. People start to get chaotic and immediately start to reject something that they do not want to give it a try or does not seem right to them. Modernism is “a rational interpretation of religious, social and economic institutions and phenomena.” (Singh) Meaning, giving it the chance to thrive in a society where the culture and in the beliefs are different. But were there’s change, people are always going to oppose it and will cause an argument, leading to disputes, debates or even wars. But can change be bad or good in the lives of people. How come change has become a symbol of chaos? Why are people scared by change?
