Nowadays, it can be observed the apogee of Globalization. Certainly, almost all the countries in the world have been affected, and Chile is not the exception. Globalization has become a significant phenomenon in the world that has contributed not only in the worldwide economies, but also in social, political, and education areas, among others. In fact, in the last area mentioned, Globalization has had an important role over the past decades. Unquestionably, Chile has been influenced in a positive way by Globalization. The education system has improved considerably due to the facilities, innovations, easy and rapid access to exchange of information, new strategies for teaching, etc. That is how, the country has been rising unstoppable. The first consequence of globalization was directly connected with computers and software. So, the first step in Chile was to create "Enlaces" whose purpose was to incorporate new information and communication technologies to education in high schools. In 1992, a pilot project was created by the Ministry of Education. It involved twelve schools in Santiago, and then a hundred establishments in the country. Since then, "Enlaces" started to progressively training teachers. In the same way, it started to install the necessary network infrastructure, with equipment, software throughout Chile. For doing so, the students would have equal opportunities to access a better quality of learning resources without taking into account where they are from or the socioeconomic status. “La Plaza” (the square) is well known for being the first software developed. Its objective was to facilitate the integration of technology to the classrooms and students. “La Plaza” had four settings; the Cultural Center, the Mail, the Kiosk which, and the Museum. The last one was dedicated to the teachers as a help, delivering a series of pedagogical tools to support teaching. Nowadays, “Enlaces” has increased student's awareness of technology exponentially, and has provided teachers with new teaching tools (www.enlaces.cl, 2016). This chance has been possible thanks to Globalization which has to allow us to a …show more content…
Thus, Chile took some actions, and launched “Me conecto para aprender”( “I connect to learn”). It is the first program which provides a computer to all 7th grade students in public education. Besides, it provides with free Internet for one complete year, and digital educational resources. It is in charge by the National Board of Student Aid and Scholarships (Junaeb), the Office of the Minister and the Ministry of Education. According www.meconecto.mineduc.cl, during 2015, nearly 70 thousand students were benefited. During the last year, it was announced that it would be more than 100,000 new students who will receive a computer during 2016. “Me conecto para aprender” aims to overcome the gap in technology, and information in Chile. It contributes to a better quality of education, and support the learning of students in public establishments. The computer possesses options for the students in order to help them. For instance, if the students require tutorials videos, the website of Professor Julio Rios (www.julioprofe.net), is available for solving problems in mathematics and physics. Moreover, if the students need to learn algebra and geometry, is available "Geogebra" (www.geogebra.org) among others. Nevertheless, not only students are beneficiated with this program. Also, it includes the delivery of curriculum suggestions for
In this text, the author explores the role that technology currently plays in schools and in education in general, as well as future consequences that will occur depending on whether society continues to insist on a type of education that is relatively lacking in technology or decides to embrace the options available whole-heartedly. There are both gains...
Globalization is a series of social, economical, technological, cultural, and political changes that promote interdependence and growth. Globalization raises the standard of living in developing countries, spreads technological knowledge, and increases political liberation. (Harris 5-23) The main cause of globalization is influence from other, more developed, countries. Globalization is a historical process that results from human innovation and technological progress. The social effects of globalization are clearly illustrated in Peru. Once a third-world country filled with poverty and oppression, Peru is now transitioning into a developed nation. In Peru, globalization has raised the human development index, empowered women, and created a stronger country. (Leon 90-91)

(Bilton et al 1996:5) The process of globalization has certainly had many changing effects to the world we live in; it has also changed the way many factors operate. Globalization is said "to have transformed the structure and scale of human relationships that social, cultural, political, and economic processes now operate at a global scale with a consequent reduction in the significance of other geographical scales. "(The Dictionary of human geography 2004:315) Globalization has had both positive and negative effects on a local, national, international and global level. Globalization often brings benefits at one level which cause negative effects at another, these results and the scale at which they manifest are often uncertain and unpredictable.
Technology in the classroom can be a good thing for many students. For example, it gives students easy access to information, but it isn’t always the best thing. Technology helps raise the illiteracy rate higher as it is used in school. In 2009, about 97 percent of classrooms had at least one computer in the classroom everyday, although approximately 54 percent could bring their own computers to their class. There was internet access available for almost 93 percent of the computers in the classrooms. Otherwise, 96 percent of the computers were brought in to the students. The average ratio of students to computers was 5.3 to 1. Since 2006 the spending rate for each school in the United States has increased about 1,250 dollars. It’s rate in 2011 was almost 10,250 dollars per pupil. Although technology can help many students and teachers, due to the fact that the use of it gets abused by some students therefore it isn’t the greatest to have at our fingertips.
If education does not require a specific spatial location or a building, then it can be delivered from anywhere to anywhere. This will, some argue, transform the fundamental infrastructure of education at every level, starting particularly at the post-secondary level, and will fundamentally erode local community, or even national control over education. The development of on-line courses, libraries and other information resources, and the marketing of distant or on-line education by businesses and schools eager to profit from opportunities to expand their horizons, are the beginning of what some see as a revolution in learning. (Veccia, 1998; Wilson, 1997). In addition to overcoming geographical constraints on the delivery of education, new technologies promise to expand the basic nature of education.
The world grows smaller and smaller as time goes on; maybe not literally, but definitely through some points of view. With everything and everyone being more connected than ever now thanks to advances in communicational technology and with the merging of cultures from all over the world, a suitable form of education needs to become the standard to accommodate such a world. Global education teaches students about the world’s different cultures, traditions, religions, languages and other important global factors contributing to our modern world. According to various recent studies, The U.S. falls behind many other nations regarding their global education standards (Webb). How then, can the U.S. or any other nation with similar education struggles

One problem when it comes to replacing traditional methods of education with technology based learning would be that transferring every single school to a technology based system would take a considerable amount of time, energy and training. Especially in todays economy, it does not seem realistic to supply every student in the United States with a laptop or tablet; also training every teacher how to utilize the technology would take a large amount of effort. However, a gradual move toward technology based learning methods is much more realistic, and has already begun. Many schools have already began utilizing laptops and iPads in everyday class; programs have been developed to help ease the switch from paper to technology; and a considerable amount of funding for educational technology already exists, thirty-five percent contributed by the federal government (Honey 76). Therefore; although the process of transferring schools to a technology based learning system would be difficult, the process would result in a...
Globalization, love it or hate it, but you can’t escape it. Globalization may be regarded as beneficial from an economic and business point of view, but however cannot be perceived the ditto when examined from the social sciences and humanities side of it. Globalization can be argued as a tool for economic growth, advancement and prosperity through co-operation between the developed and developing countries. The pro-globalization critics argue that the benefits that globalization brings to developing nations surpasses or outcasts the negative impacts caused by globalization and may even go a step further to state that it is the only source of hope for developing nations to prosper and stand out. However, the real question to be asked is as to what extent are the positives argued upon without taking into account the negative aspects of globalization towards developing countries. Moreover, how many developing countries out of many are exactly benefiting or even prospering from globalization is another question to consider. Therefore, my paper will dispute that indeed growth and advancement provided by globalization to developing countries is beneficial in short-term, but in the long-run, it will only bring upon negative impacts and challenges due to the obstacles involved such as exploitation of labour and resources, higher increase in poverty, and effects of multi-national corporations on local businesses and the economy, and to an extent the effects on the developing country itself.
The interrelation and the integration of people, companies, governments and nations can be described as globalization. Globalization was produced due to international trade and investments with the help of technology. In today’s world, globalization is very essential. The advancements and technology help the process needed it for globalization. Many countries and organizations similarly are affected by this phenomenon, on the other hand, smaller countries have benefit from larger contributors in the world’s market.
Globalization of education relates to discuss global processes and their impact on the educational practices and the local political. That means that events which occurring at the global level affect the school systems at national and local levels. There is an ongoing and dynamic interaction between the two systems which vary accordingly. Spring Joel (2009), stated in his book that “although nations continue to independently control their school systems…many nations choose to adopt global policies in order to compete in the global economy.
By the time a student is in middle school he or she should be able to use software tools such as word processing , data bases, spreadsheets, and telecommunications. But the computer can be used for so much more. The computer can be used as a tutor or for research on any topic. As a tutor, the comput...
This age is dedicated to more of learning age. It is said that even the teachers are the learner. This is the age of knowledge gradually shifted towards the age of communication. Thought and ideas are playing a crucial role in the present 21st century. The period when the denial and ignorance was the answer to the learner’s inquisitiveness has no solution. The answer to these questions is the technology which has solved problem to very much extend. People call such kind of change where teachers are supported with the technological tools to prove their worth. It does not say that previous centuries teachers were not efficient or they do not have that kind of knowledge. In the present time, the knowledge has got the support of the technology to explore. The learners are satisfying their requirements to the larger extend. The technological tool such as internet has shown great difference. The use of videos and photographs, 3D picture support, animations and documentaries and use of computers especially has changed the whole scenario. The most advanced version we have seen are the mobiles and the various applications which are loaded in mobile has taken the world in strong fist. The laptops are converting into the interactive machines which are loaded with n number of facilitation.
Education is one of the factors that influenced the development of a particular country. Because of that, it cannot avoid from any challenges. One of the challenges is globalization. The phenomenon of globalization has transformed not only world trade, communications and economic relations in the latter part of the last century but is having a profound impact on education. Knight (1994) “Education should shape the cognitive skills, interpersonal sensibilities, and cultural sophistication of children and youth whose lives will be both engaged in local contexts and responsive to larger transnational process” .
