In this book, Bauerlein argues that technology as a whole has had the opposite of its intended effect on American youth. According to his argument, young adults in the United States are now entirely focused on relational interactions and, in his view, pointless discussions concerning purely social matters, and have entirely neglected intellectual pursuits that technology should be making much simpler. He calls on various forms of data in order to prove that the decline is very significant and quite real. This book is meant to be a thorough and compelling study on the reality of what technology has caused in the U.S.

This source considers the issue of converting to digital books, specifically as it pertains to the effect that this change would have on the global environment. Although the research does recognize that there are disadvantages to not having a physical copy of a book and to abandoning certain platforms that do not transfer well to a digital form, overall, these researchers conclude that publishers should move towards digital products not only for the sake of cheaper long-run costs, but also for the good that going paperless can do for the environment. By displaying a series of graphs, as well as including multiple data sets, the text explains how e-books compare with printed texts; then, analysis of these facts is also included to show the reader the authors’ point.

In this text, the author explores the role that technology currently plays in schools and in education in general, as well as future consequences that will occur depending on whether society continues to insist on a type of education that is relatively lacking in technology or decides to embrace the options available whole-heartedly. This source shows the reader an example of a specific church where electronic Bibles are becoming more commonplace, and then goes on to explain that this is the case in many other churches as well. According to this source, many churchgoers see their electronic bibles as being more practical and often better tools for study that printed Bibles in books because of the access to other materials that they provide. Other people who were interviewed commented that they feel a closer connection with God through the traditional format and appreciate not having to worry about potential issues such as battery life. Overall, it seems to be the general consensus that digital Bibles are beneficial tools in some cases, but can also easily be a distraction.
