I. Introduction:
A. He hasn’t stood in the face of danger for his country. He hasn’t started a new religion. He’s not a Mother Teresa and he doesn’t have his own talk show. In fact, he’s just your everyday kind of guy. And oh yeah, he’s one of the top-rated most valuable players on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team. His name is Mike Alstott, and he’s worth a lot more than what you see at first glance. (attention getter)
B. Living in the Tampa Bay area, I’m sure you’ve heard of him, and you’ve probably caught a few games, but do you really know who he is? (common ground)
C. Mike Alstott is a true warrior, a role model, and an example of a hometown hero. (thesis)
D. I’m going to show you how Mike is not only a hero on the football team but a great asset to the Tampa Bay area. (preview)
No matter what it is, Mike puts his heart and soul into everything he does. For 9 years, straight out of college at Purdue, Mike Alstott has been a major part of the Buccaneers football team. Easily one of the most motivated players on the team, he has played in 102 games resulting in 59 career touchdowns. He is ranked second on his team of all-time with over 4,600 rushing yards. He has been to the pro-bowl 6 times. However, with all of these successes comes many injuries. In 2003 he missed 12 games due to a serious neck injury. Even after undergoing surgery, and the rest of his career being questionable, there was no doubt in his mind that he would be back on the field. Now, I don’t know about you but after a life-threatening injury, the last thing I would want to do would be to throw myself back on the field to do it all over again. This quote sums up the Mike Alstott philosophy: “I have never backed down from any carry, any time,” said Alstott. “I would carry it 50 times a game and I’ve always said that.” Pure and simple, Mike loves football and he loves his community. Nothing could get in the way of him fulfilling his duty and doing what he loves.
Jackie served in the war as the second lieutenant. He never set foot in combat, however. He was arrested because he wouldn’t give up his seat on a segregated bus. He received an honorable discharge, and was sent home. This was just the start of something much bigger. Thi...
The book Outlaw Platoon written by Sean Parnell is a soldiers’ tale of his platoon in one of the most dangerous places on earth. This book is a non-fiction riveting work that tells the story of a platoon that spent sixteen months on an operating base in the Bermel Valley, the border of Pakistan. This mission the men were sent on was part of a mission called Operation Enduring Freedom. This book is extremely relevant to the war that we are still fighting in Afghanistan and the humanitarian work that continues. We still have men in this area fighting and losing their lives everyday. It is the focus of ongoing political debates and the purpose of our involvement there is an ongoing question in the minds of many Americans. In writing this book, Parnell makes it clear in his author’s notes that he indeed was not trying to pursue one political agenda over another. His goal as not to speak of all members of the platoon and expose their identities and the types of soldiers they were but instead to showcase some of the men’s bravery and abilities during the war. Parnell believed that he owed it to the men to write something that would show the world what these men go through during combat in an honest and raw account. Another purpose of Parnell’s in writing this book is an attempt at making sure these men are given a place in American war history.

A warrior is a hero, a role-model, fearless, loyal, persevering, brave - there are few that are able to fulfill these standards. Yet Melba Beals, a fifteen year old girl, not only claims this illusive role, but cannot escape it. Through the journey into integration Melba acts as a dynamic juxtaposition, moving from a scared little girl to a fierce soldier, yet never truly satisfied with her position. This conflict arises from her personal, family, and religious values, the impact of integration in Little Rock, and her experiences during her time at Central High. The title Warriors Don't Cry is employed as a command as well as a way of life and later a regret as this memoir progresses.

As it can be seen, John Trudell has done an enourmous amount of accomplishments to add to his resume. He was courageous enough to put his life on the line to fight for what he believed what was right for society and had the will power to continue his activism even though he took a break after his horrific incedent. He's had a huge impact on many people whether it be
John Allen Muhammad, also known as John Allen Williams, was born on December 31, 1960 in Louisiana. After the passing of his mom when Muhammad was the age of four, his aunt, Baton Rouge raised him. After Muhammad finished high school he married Carol Kaglear. They had a son and named him Linbergh. He then started a military career that was promising at first. His commanders described him as personable and outgoing. By the early 1980’s his cracks were beginning to show. He failed to report for duty and hit an officer, resulting in trouble (Biography, par 1, 2, 3).
Born in Virginia, to mother Martha Puller and father Matthew Puller, he grew to become a well recognized marine globally (Russell & Cohn, 2012). His father’s dead while he was 10 years did not stop him to achieve a high point career; in fact, his childhood lifestyle of listening to war stories...
During this past summer I had the opportunity to travel to the Washington Leadership Conference (WLC), where I learned about leadership, citizenship, and service. During the conference we met in what was called large groups and community groups. Each community group had their own unique name, with some being called “revolutionaries” or the “legacies”, but the name of my group was the “Rough Riders”. At the time I really did not know much about the history of the Rough Riders or their impact in history, but after some research and watching a movie based on this story I was able to see a real life example of what lea...
