In many cases people aren't noticed until they have been gone. In the case of the Hinterkaifeck Murders, the gruber family family caused many to be concerned when seven year old Cäzilia did not show up to school nor choir practice on April 1, 1922. On April 2, she missed school again. The next day the Gruber’s neighbors decided to call the local authorities to investigate. Four brutally abused bodies were found covered with hay in the barn along with one of Germany’s most eeriest unsolved crimes.
After neighbors had not seen the Gruber family after a few days, they began to worry. Normally, the neighbors saw the Grubers at some point in time because many members lived on the farm. A couple of days passed, the neighbors hadn’t seen any liveliness on the farm, and became wary. After calling the proper

authorities to investigate, the police found 2 year old Josef Gruber and 44 year old Maria Baumgartner, the maid, both dead in the farmhouse, lying in their beds. After further investigation, the bodies of 63 year old Andreas, 72 year old Cazilia, 32 year old Viktoria, and 78 year old, little Cazilia, were discovered in the barn. According to the autopsy the Gruber family had been beaten to death with an mattock, otherwise known as a pickax (Admin). Investigators worked backwards to solve the case . They used eyewitness testimonies of the last reported sightings of the Gruber family, in order to decide when the murders took place. “The investigators knew how and when the Gruber family was murdered, but they quickly found out that finding the perpetrator, or perpetrators, would be elusive” (Admin). Just prior to the murders, mysterious incidents were claimed to have took place at Hinterkaifeck (Admin). Just days before the murders, neighbors reported that Andreas told them that he had seen some odd footsteps in the snow, that led to the house, but not away from it. It turned out that the Gruber family had experienced several other strange incidents within weeks of their murders. Other members of the Gruber family also notified neighbors about strange sounds they heard in the attic. Andreas slithered into the attic to check but discovered nothing, after checking the source of the sounds. The family spoke of how the noise sounded too big to be a small animal (Admin). A set of house keys came up missing, according the Gruber’s. They also found a newspaper that was out of place, that no one in the family claimed. Initially, police suspected drifters or gallivant men of being the culprit. The theory was later dismissed after authorities found large sums of money within the house. The killer remained at the farmhouse after the killings for days (Vatomsky). Evidence showed that the killer had remained consuming meals, feeding the animals, and lighting fires in the hearth (Vatomsky). Reports from the families autopsies portrayed a horrific sequence of events (Vatomsky).
72 year old Cäzilia displayed signs of strangulation along with several blows to the head. Her husband, Andreas, was piled with blood, and his cheekbones extended from shredded flesh. Viktoria’s skull displayed signs of being smashed and showed nine “star-shaped” wounds. The lower jaw of seven year old Cäzilia had been shattered. Her face and neck were covered in gaping, circular wounds. Viktoria, Andreas, and elderly Cäzilia died instantly from professional inflicted blows from a mattock. Unfortunately, the younger Cäzilia survived and did not die right away. Instead, she endured shock several hours after being attacked. She was found with her hair ripped out in clumps. Sadly, the maid, as well as little Josef, were found in the farmhouse with their bodies lying dormant of souls as they had experienced a similar fate. Joseph was killed in Viktoria’s room while Maria took aslant blows to the head within her chambers, resulting in her death. Just as the bodies in the barn, theirs were also covered: Maria’s with her sheets, and Josef’s with one of his mother’s dresses
(Vatomsky). The lack of arrest over the Grubers’ family murders caused many citizens to become disturbed (Admin). Authorities had many theories but one stretched to the talk of insanity. Karl Gabriel, who was the husband of Viktoria, was the prime suspect. He was rumored to had died during World War I but his body was never recovered from the battlefield. Many people speculated that he had survived but hid, to keep from being forced back to the war front. His comrades all claimed that they seen him die. Karl Gabriel would have had to murder his own family in cold blood so he was eliminated as a suspect. It appeared to be unlikely that Karl Gabriel would abandon the army and stage his own death, after wandering around Germany for a several years before killing his family (Admin). The Gruber family reigns as one of the most uncanny unsolved crimes of Germany.
Sherene H. Razack’s article The Murder of Pamela George introduces the idea of colonial violence within a spatialized justice system by exploring the trial of a murder of a native woman who worked as a prostitute.
After reading ‘The Murder of Helen Jewett” it gave me insight on how crime in New York City was in the 1830’s and another view on how life for men and women differed. The book starts off talking about Dorcas Doyen famously known as Helen Jewett and how she was highly thought of but then the news comes out of nowhere with several stories about her past some twisted to make her seem as bad as a prostitute who has bounced around a few times could be seen. But her actual story was that she was born in 1814 in Temple, Maine to a regular working family. She lost both of her parents at a young age her mother died when she was at the early ages of her life and he father who was an alcoholic died shortly after her mother. She was put in a home, orphaned

For her 15th birthday, Mariam asked Jalil if he could take her to his cinema to watch Pinocchio. She also asked if Jalil could bring her brothers and sisters so she could meet them. Both Nana and Jalil thought it wasn’t a good idea, but Mariam insisted on going, so Jalil said he would send someone to pick her up. Mariam did not like this idea and said that she wanted to be picked up by Jalil. Jalil reluctantly agreed. Later that day, Mariam gets the backlash and hate from her mother from her decision: “Of all the daughters I could have had, why did God give me an ungrateful one like you? …How dare you abandon me like this, you treacherous little harami!” Mariam wakes up the next day, disappointed and fed up since Jalil did not come to pick her up. She heads out to town to find Jalil herself. She makes it to his house when a chauffeur tells Mariam that Jalil was “away on urgent business.” She slept outside of his house and was awoken by the chauffeur, telling her that he would take her home. Mariam snatches away from the chauffeur’s grip and turns around towards the house, to see Jalil in an upstairs window. It was then that Mariam figured out that all she was to Jalil was a disgrace. Jalil had always been careful with the information he told Mariam. He may have loved her, but only on his own terms. Once Mariam realizes that her father allowed her to sleep on the street rather than bring her into his
... premarital and immoral sexual services that would be inappropriate for respectable courtships of the time. Under false names such as “Frank Rivers and Bill Easy” the young clerks experienced courtship “unburdened by… bourgeois courtship and free of the renunciations and monotony of lifelong marriage” (Cohen, 131) .The women also catered to the clerk’s feminine and domestic needs like repairing and sewing clothing “as a wife would do for a husband” (Cohen, 149).
While reading the case about Mr.Hossack 's murder i saw the wife, Mrs.Hossack, as innocent at first. The children all claimed that the two did not argue for over a year, so why would she kill him now verses a year ago? When the youngest child, Ivan Hossack, came to the stand and "told his story in a straight, unhesitating manner" it made it easier for me to believe in Mrs. Hossack 's innocence. The child even said that he saw his mother aiding his father when he called out for help. If she had been the one to swing the axe, why would she help him and risk getting in trouble? Most importantly, if he was conscious and talking, why wouldn 't he say who to murderer was? He could have easily identified his wife in the dark after being married for over twenty years, and yet he didn 't identify who had tried to kill him. Dr. Dean first stated that the axe did not hit the speech portion of the brain, so he could have been conscious and yelling out for his wife. Dean later stated that the fatal blow from the axe would have left Mr.Hossack unconscious. The murder weapon had blood on in and apparent hairs stuck to one side; "Prof. John L. Tilton of Simpson college... was unable to say definitely that the hair had been
Numerous murders have taken place throughout history and sadly, plenty of these murders go unsolved. One of these unsolved murders is the murders of Barbara and Patricia Grimes in 1957. There have been plenty of suspects, but nobody was ever convicted of the murders of the sisters. However, after reviewing possible suspects for the murders of the Grimes sisters, the true identity of the killer has been revealed as Max Fleig.
Pignati's kids, they had to be extra careful that their actual parents didn’t hear what happened or they would have both been in a lot of trouble. They made the decision that they were still going to go to his house every day after school to clean it up and make sure no one broke in since they thought they were the reason he was in the hospital. One day while they were at Mr. Pignati's house they decided that they were going to clean everything up. To begin with, Lorraine asked John to take the trash out or do the dishes while she cleaned everything else but he was acting infantile and wouldn’t do any cleaning. After a little bit of cleaning Lorraine made dinner for John and herself when John came up with the fantastic idea of having a party with a bunch of friends at Mr. Pignati's house. That night when they invited all of their friends, they had a bunch of tiny hors d’oeuvres and alcohol for all of the kids. All of the smells mixed together made the house smell very putrid that night. The only problem was that the night didn’t go exactly as planned. People who weren’t suppose to show up, showed up, pigs from the pig collection were being broken, Conchetta's dresses were being tried on and ripped by the girls, people were rolling around the house with roller skates, most importantly, Mr. Pignati came home from the hospital early with the house in the state that they left it. That night, the police

One of the victims of the accident was the Marquesa de Montemayor, Doña María. She had an unhappy childhood, "she was ugly; she stuttered; her mother persecuted her with sarcasms" (pg. 11). Richard Kuklinski was not your average serial killer, he was hired as a hitman and eventually killed about 200 people in a 30 year time period. Many think his early life was the reason he grew up to be such a violent criminal. He grew up in a Catholic home but had very abusive parents. Both of his parents would brutally beat him and his siblings for absolutely no reason. Kuklinski’s brother reportedly died from such a brutal beating by his father. His father eventually left the family. Kuklinski started his criminal activity by killing animals such as cats. His excitement for killing animals eventually turned into disgust because he got bored of it.
The Murders in the Rue Morgue begins with “propositions” (Poe 2) to help the reader follow the reading through the use of critical thinking like that of a chess or card player. The chess player must wait and contemplate each move of another player, while the card player is more prone to memory perception. Poe then introduces his acquaintance Dupin and expounds on his abilities. Then “Extraordinary Murders” (5) begins the sequence of the detective like story. The murders were written about in the local paper and giving no clue, leaving the mystery unanswered. The next day many testimonial references were given in the paper and their account of the murders exposed, still without any evidential clues. The evening paper reveal the police have no way of solving the crime, but arrest Le Bon simply because he was the last individual to see the murdered alive. Dupin’s “peculiar analytical ability” (3) begins to kick in and he begins to belittle the ability of the investigators and plans an “examination” (9). After receiving permission, Dupin and Poe (or the narrator as such) went to the Rue Morgue. They carefully scoured the neighborhood and the outdoor area before entering the house and room where the murders took place. Dupin was very intense and refrained from speaking for several hours contemplating on all he had seen. Then Dupin spoke and completely expounded his analysis of the murders, the means of entrance and exit, and the ability that it would take to complete what had been done. When he centered in on the agility, strength, ferocity and lack of motive (14), Dupin revealed the hair he found revealing the intruder and murderer. To draw the orangutan’s owner to him, Dupin posted an announcement in the news paper. ...
It had been a week since John had gotten moved back to the orphanage, a week since he had to start sleeping on a poorly made air mattress that was half way deflated by the time he woke up in the morning for breakfast. He did have to admit it, John missed the comfortable mattress he was able to sleep on back at his old foster care home. It had been a week since the organization started its hunt to find John a more permanent home, and had no luck. John honestly wanted them to give up and let him just stay here with Mark, who was currently packing up his belongings to head to his new foster home, but then he remembered his and Tammy’s conversation in the main office. The Bell family was on their way to Yellowstone National park for a camping trip. They reached the park at 7 o'clock a.m . Nixon and Zander weren't tired at all, in fact, Nixon suggested to go to the park and they did. At the park they met some new friends and they loved jumping on the bouncy castle. They came across a sign that said don’t leave the campfire unattended. This gave them the great idea of making a campfire at night! so for now they played at the park with their new friends. (At the park). Nixon was having a fun time playing tag with their friends, but Zander wasn't because he wasn’t as athletic as Nixon was. The parents on the other hand were having some difficulties mom didn’t know
Her father had barricaded them in, as the mob surrounding their house grew, even as their fields and barn burned. The stench of burning animal flesh numbed her nose, the shrieks of dying animals deafened her ears. Claude had never come home that night, and the men from the gathering were still there. Her mother was the
