Ehrman talks about how Chapter 7 introduces a comparison method when studying the Gospels. I believe that this approach is leaning more to a critical method when talking about biblical writings. I do realize when reading through the chapter there are many similarities between the stories, but also there are differences.
The Gospel of Luke a Greco-Roman biography I believe that is written by unknown person possibly Greek. Luke is the author who wrote the Acts of the Apostles. The Gospel tells us about the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and Acts talks about how Christianity spread through the Roman Empire.

read through the Gospels of Luke and Matthew none the stories are the same, they are quite different. I am will list a few examples for to show you what I mean; Gospel of Matthew say he has Magi, in the Gospel of Luke it says he has shepherds. Matthew wrote about the flight to Egypt, but Luke wrote about the journey to Bethlehem. The Gospel of Luke talks about the salvation of God is for the entire world.
When you read the Gospel of Luke, Jesus is rooted traced back to Adam. Why Adam, because he was the first man created by God. Gospel of Luke he does say Jesus is a descendant of the Jews. But if you read more into scriptures it says that Jesus belongs to the world, not to the Jews.
In the Gospel of Luke, he starts off with Jesus is speaking in a synagogue where he grew up. Jesus was preaching a sermon to the Jew and said that he was a prophet. Because Jesus said, he was a prophet the Jews tried to kill him. The narrative of a gospel is Jews people rejected to Jesus say he was a prophet, but the Gentiles embraced it.
Luke talks about as a prophet Jesus that meant God sent him. Of course when it came to the Hebrew’s, and their prophets would oppose to any other prophet sent and kill them. The Gospels of Luke it states that Jesus was born as a prophet, he did miracles as a prophet and died as a prophet. Here is another comparison of the Gospels of Mark and Luke that I found interesting. In the Gospel Mark, he said that Jesus died with unbearable pain, but in the Gospel of Luke he says that Jesus must die for it is a necessity. In Luke 23:46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his
last. What I find sad is Jesus was trying to convince his people that he was the Messiah, but instead they showed hatred and murdered him. Jesus death does relates to salvation but does talk about more in detail that repentance will bring forgiveness and salvation. Jesus was not guilty of any crimes, just wanted to bring love and peace to the world. My conclusion from chapter 7 is that Luke, Mark, and Matthew emphasize directly on what God’s has in store for the world, which include the Jews and the Gentiles.
The book of Luke, found after the books Matthew and Mark, focuses on the ministry of Jesus Christ but it also gives us a look into His birth and growth in totality. In this chapter we see a historical account of some of the journeys that Christ experienced. It is important to keep in mind that the Bible and all of its books do serve as historical accounts but each book is unique in the fact that they incorporate a theological timeline. The Bible is, conceivably, the most important book that has ever been written. It gives the world eyewitness accounts to historical events that helped not only shaped a region of the world but the whole entire world. It is nearly impossible to go through some formal societal education and have never once read a part of the bible or have heard a story that adapts from the stories within the bible. The bible has helped formed institutions, associations and so much more. By reading the Gospel of Luke we are truly reading what is meant for us to read as Christians. Matthew In the Bible’s New Testaments, the book of Matthew is of Gospels genre. In the Old Testament, God appointed the people who we know as prophets. They were the ones to describe Jesus life and work. What they wrote, those things did happen during Jesus life on earth.
The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are the origin of nearly everything the Christian Church teaches about Jesus. The Gospels, in turn, serve as the scale or test of truth and authenticity of everything the church teaches about Jesus. The Gospel of John, the last of the four gospels in the Bible, is a radical departure from the simple style of the synoptic gospels. It is the only one that does not use parables as a way of showing how Jesus taught, and is the only account of several events, including the raising of Lazarus and Jesus turning water into wine. When compared to Matthew, it’s apparent that Mark’s wording was intentionally not alluding to Joseph. The gospel of Mark can be described as a “selective retelling” of the life and ministry of Jesus. The author of Mark gives the basic outline of the “essentials” of Jesus’ biography. Considering this and the fact that Mark was the first gospel written, it should come as no surprise that the gospels of Matthew and Luke borrow from and expand on Mark.
In the gospels of Mark and John, both showed a vivid portrait of Jesus in their writing. Mark’s gospel describes much more of Jesus' life, miracles, and parables as suffering servant. However, John’s gospel was written to convince people to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. The birth narrative of Matthew begins with a long genealogy of Jesus, which basically shows how Jesus is son of Abraham who is the father of the nation of Israel, and David the King of the Jews. This may not seem important but this genealogy shows how Jesus is connected to the Davidic line. Then we have Mary, who just found out she was pregnant and Joseph decides it is best to divorce her because he wanted to break his union with someone who is pregnant, by someone else. But behold the angel comes down and reassures Joseph that Mary was pregnant by the Holy Spirit and that he should take her back into his house. The angel also said to name the child Emmanuel. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and King Herod heard of this new newborn king of the Jews and he ordered that all boys under the age of 2 be killed. The magi gave Jesus the gifts and left. In a dream, the angel of the lord told Joseph to take the child and go to Egypt and hide, Herod then died, and Jesus was safe.
Since Matthew and Luke are not modern day biographies, they do not follow the standard that we imagine. I think the explanation for the combination of similarities and differences comes from the fact that the Matthew and Luke are styled differently and also have different audiences. Since Matthew and Luke are interpreting history for a specific audience, this would explain why Matthew and Luke contains differing details. For example, Matthew tells of the Wise Men that came to visit Jesus in Matt.2:1-12 while Luke tells of shepherds that came to visit Jesus in Luke 2:8-20. Since Matthew is styled for a Jewish audience, perhaps it is considered more impactful and stunning that wise philosophers came to worship a child. On the other hand,

The three parables contained in chapter fifteen of the Gospel of Luke are a tightly woven trio anchored on either side by closely related teachings. The preceding chapter gives instruction on humility and hospitality, telling the reader to open the invitation to one’s meal table to all, including the poor, the sick, and the unclean. In the following chapter the reader finds instructions for how to use wealth to benefit those same people. In the middle of these we find chapter fifteen, containing the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal and his brother. As a part of the triplet, the parable of the lost sheep challenges the reader to not only invite the poor into one’s community, but to receive them as family with joy and celebration.
