The Fault In Our Stars captures the love between two, teen, cancer patients. When Augustus Waters shows up for a support group meeting Hazel thinks he is extremely handsome, and begins to fall in love with them. A few inspirational objects in this novel is a unlit cigarette, Jesus’ heart, and inspirational quotes. First object would be the unlit cigarette. This is shown to be an important part of this book when Augustus says, “They don’t kill you unless you light them,” (Green 20). When Hazel first saw Augustus put the cigarette between his teeth she was worried but after he explained the importance and metaphor to it she was filled with solace. This quote helps show that many everyday events can either save or kill, it all just depends on how you use your opportunities. This is also an important part of the book because The Fault In Our Stars is based around life and death. Hazel and Augustus both struggle to keep having air flow through their lungs so the metaphor helps capture the everyday struggle for cancer patients and the risks they must take to survive. …show more content…

This to me was a perfect symbol because most cancer patients or survivors will go to Jesus for strength through the process. In the book it said, “were sitting right in Christ’s very sacred heart and whatever,” (Green 4). It is extremely ironic that their support group meets in Jesus’ hear since Jesus is supposed to give people strength through his heart. Jesus is known to have a strong heart since he gave up his life to save everyone else. Knowing Jesus’ heart was extremely strong helps people make it through tough times. The support group most likely meets in the center of Jesus’ heart too give the cancer patients
