It was a great summer afternoon when Bernard was playing lacrosse with his best friend and his neighbor. At three o'clock they all went home. Since they were in Bernards backyard he didn’t have to walk much. When he got home he went to his fridge and got a Coke. Bernard heard a small creak, then he looked at the door. He heard footsteps running and he saw a shadow go behind the stairs. He yelled, “Who are you?” No response so he yelled again. Still nothing. A betrayal by someone who you trust emotionally impacts you in a variety of ways. Sinclair Ross’ short story The Painted Door prominently shows the reasons of why a person would choose to betray their partner. The story is set in an isolated farmhouse in the prairies where a married couple, named Ann and John lives. After John’s trip to his father’s house he arrives back home and sees that Ann has been unfaithful. Although people know the effects of betrayal they still carry out this act. The main reason that people betray loved ones is due to the fact humans yearn for companionship, crave the thrill of new experiences and desire change to keep them fulfilled.
When writing a story that is meant to scare the reader, authors use a variety of different literary elements to intensify fear. This is apparent in the stories “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “beware: do not read this poem,” and “House Taken Over”. It is shown through transformation in the character, setting, and sometimes even the story or poem itself, adding to the scariness that the reader feels when reading it. While there are some examples of transformation not being scary or not playing a role in stories meant to scare us, transformation plays a crucial role in making the reader of these stories scared.

When he finally got out and stumbled above the snow he realized he had made a mistake, he had not brought snowshoes. He decided to try to make a pair. 3 hours later he had the crudest pair of snowshoes he had seen, he wasn't even sure if he could call them snowshoes. He grabbed his brand new .22 and headed out to get breakfast. On his way out he saw a couple of tracks that he had identified as canine.
He ran to his brother's house and I knocked again. This time they both told me to go away. I almost cried! I just wanted to play with them. They told me, "Not by the hairs of our chinny, chin, chin!" I turned to walk away and just then, I sneezed so hard that my hat blew off my head. I turned back to get my hat and sneezed again! This time I blew the house of sticks down. I was so embarrassed! My friends, the pigs, came running out of the rubble, and scampered away. I ran after them to ask if they wanted to play catch. They ran into another house. This one was really nice. It was made out of bricks. I knocked on the door and they told me to go away again! I started to cry. When I cry a lot, I sneeze a lot. I sneezed and sneezed and sneezed some more. I heard them laugh at me! I started to get mad and wanted to tell them to stop, so I climbed on to the roof of their house and tried to yell into their chimney, but I slipped and fell right in.

There are many different ways to interpret The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James. Many critics over the past century have voiced their opinions about the story. Each critical analysis of the story disagrees with the beliefs expressed in another. Robert B. Heilman is a critic who wrote in the mid-twentieth century. He interprets The Turn of the Screw to be a representation of the conflict between good and evil. Heilman's points are clear and obviously well thought out, but there are flaws in his argument that make his interpretation questionable.
“The Bells,” a poem written by Edgar Allan Poe, conveys a cheerful tone through distinct sounds and repetition of words. A deeply onomatopoeic poem, “The Bells” progresses after every stanza. Primarily, the alliteration, assonance, and onomatopoeia in the poem produce a happy tone; but, towards the end of the poem, the sound devices help establish a gloomier tone. In each stanza, the bells are made of a different metal substance. In the first stanza, the bells are described as silver. In this case, the bells are pleasant, precious, and strong. Moreover, the bells portray the stages in life. The first stanza explains a man’s happy childhood. The golden bells in the second stanza are an example of a man’s love life through marriage. The brazen bells in the third stanza depict the terror of a human’s life through aging, and the iron bells in the fourth stanza show the mourning and death of a human. To fulfill the sense of excitement and happiness throughout the first stanza, Poe uses repeating words and consonants, long vowels, and imitation of sounds. The alliteration, assonance, and onomatopoeia all contribute to the joyful and merry tone of “The Bells.”
There was a door that I had never gone in. It stood out in the middle
No one ever imagined that an innocent prank would result in the flashing squad cars now rushing to the scene. Thinging bout it all now, wishing that it never happened! It was just a joke soppoesed to be funny not harmful. As we walked to the train railroads we looked at each other. This was all due to a intiuation to our club. We had all done it before! But this tiiime was different. I looked at Tim, he gave me a asured look. Billy looked scared, and for some reaon i did to but i also had a bad feeling. I only have thoes when something bad is going to happen. "come on its not a big deal" said Gregg. "We've all done it" said Tim. I could now hear the train miles away. I asked myself "why am i feeling this way? theres something wron somethings not right"! I only wished i would have acted on that thought! Billy looked at me as his face turned total white. He was to scared. I gave him a pat on the back, but it did'nt seem to help him.
