Evolution occurs in many ways. One of the most popular examples is the Earth; the world on which we walk upon. Boundlessly changing and adapting to keeps itself revolving, rotating, and supporting life. You could even go as far as saying the way people dress is a complete evolution as well. From bonnets and aprons to skinny jeans, the newest shirt trend, and whatever shoes a person could please, fashion has faced no mountain too high to get over. One situation, however, perhaps has not changed in any major way in approximately 300 years until the 21st century and can leave one in quandary; the evolution of women. Women in the 1950’s were family oriented and devoted their lives to caring for their children and cooking for their husbands. Comparably, women in 1692, around the time period of The Crucible, were caring about their reputation and not wanting to mess it up out of fear of accusation of witchcraft. The women of the 1950’s focused solely on the health of their family; feeding them, nurturing them, and bandaging up any wounds (Public Broadcasting Service). Becoming a Mrs and having a big family were the sign of success in the society of the 1950’s. During The Crucible time period, a sign of success was a clean reputation. A wealthy husband, religious family, and no suspicions of sinning were everything you would want and more in 1692. Being able to maintain a healthy family, help out your husband, and keep everything smooth on the land were a woman’s main priority as long as she was not experiencing accusations of sorts (Lambert).
