“Over 390 million children and adolescents aged 5–19 years were overweight in 2022, including 160 million who were living with obesity” (World Health Organization). Obesity and physical health are just some of the issues that can be improved by children participating in youth sports. Too many parents shy away from putting their children into sports because of the challenges and costs. Youth sports are beneficial for children because being active helps them stay healthy, they will learn skills that will be helpful in the future, and it aids in good mental health. One of the most prominent positives of youth sports is physical benefits. When participating in sports, children can increase their physical health. Although there is no real solution to lowering the cost of youth sports, parents can still explore many options for their children. There are lots of community-funded organizations that provide reasonable prices for children to participate in youth sports. Organizations such as the YMCA offer much more affordable options. Enrollment for youth soccer programs starts at prices as little as $40 for ages 6-15 (YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne). Investing in a youth sports program can help children grow in many ways and introduce them to various lessons and skills they can use for the rest of their lives. The role youth sports can play in a child’s life is tremendously important due to the many different aspects they affect, such as their physical and mental health and skill building. Children can take away so much more than just skills that involve the sport, such as dribbling a basketball or catching a baseball.
