School Breaks
Is it right that little kids can’t take a break after a hard class? Is it right you can’t talk to friends if they are not in your classes? Mr. Hale, please take these kids into consideration and add some time for breaks. Taking short breaks during the school day will help students throughout the day because, kids should be able to talk to their friends, students need a brain bread after a class, and kids would enjoy school more.
To begin with, a little break could allow students to talk to their friends. Some kids are separated from their friends all day. A little break could give them a chance to catch up with their friends. Next, a lot of students don’t know a lot of other students. If they had a break they would they could
make new friends in the process. Finally, most children have phones. If they have friends that don’t go to their school they probably want to talk to them during the day. They couldn’t talk to their friends if they did not have a break, and kids need to talk to their friends. Secondly, students need a small brain break. After class students are exhausted from all of the hard work. During a class a student could get tired or off focus do to no breaks. If kids have a small break they will achieve more, because their minds are focused. A small break can do wonders for some students’ minds. Finally, if kids had a break they would enjoy school more. If kids had a break they would enjoy going to classes because, they had some time in between. When people like doing something, they do it. If kids wanted to go to school, absences would decrease. If kids liked school, they would get better grades. Kids have to like school to be good at it. In conclusion, if we had short breaks it would benefit students amazingly. Mr. Hale, taking breaks would allow students to talk to their friends, give them a brain break, and help them enjoy school. I believe if we had short breaks it would impact the school in a marvelous way.
As I wearily sat in my seat, writing an essay on the importance of electricity in the modern world, I caught myself glancing repeatedly at the clock that was so carefully perched above the teacher’s desk. “Ten minutes, only ten more minutes left until school is over and I get to go home!” I told myself. In most schools, the average school day is about eight hours long. Eight hours of continuously sitting in a chair taking notes during lectures, doing classwork, projects, etc. During these eight hours of school, students deserve a short, outdoor break in which they can isolate themselves from the stress of working all day and just relax. Studies have shown that people who take short breaks throughout the day to do light, outdoor breaks are more productive than those who do not. A short, outdoor break will benefit students due to the fact that students will have time to relax; students will be able to focus more, concentrate, and be more productive; and teachers will have more time to prepare for the next class coming.
Why Schools Should Continue Starting at Eight Despite popular opinion, to be beneficial, schools should continue on their current schedules, and not start later. Starting schools later can have a variety of positive and negative consequences on students. Schools currently are at a time that gives students enough lesson time to learn subjects, but still have time to relax and take part in other activities after school. Many families depend on the time school starts to have easy transportation to school and work. Starting schools later will take away students time to do activities of their choice such as spend time with their families, socialize with others, and participate in extracurricular activities.
How beneficial would it be for students to have a free period during the school day? I will give you the reasons on to why I think students should have a free period during the school day. The reasons why we should have a free period include, having time to hang out with friends, time to get help from teachers with assignments, or catch some Z’s. One of the reasons students should have a free period is because it will allow them to relax, take a brain break, and hang out with friends. Students deserve to have this extra free time because school can be really stressful and having this free time in school to do whatever you want will help us to reset and recharge.
Children can burn off bottled up energy at recess that they have accumulated while sitting through their teacher’s lessons. Lahey mentions that “studies have found that students who enjoy the benefit of recess are more attentive once they return to class”. This is helpful because the child will be focused on what they are learning instead of fidgeting in their chair. Also, providing breaks to students while they are learning can result in longer attention spans. Recess is a break that recharges the brain and allows elementary students to control their desire to adventure. Young children are easily distracted, so recess regulates this by providing them with their own free time. Students become more self-contained after they return from recess due to their tiredness. This is useful in class because children will be less hyperactive. The absence of recess would not permit students to learn self-control
I am convinced that students would do better in school if they had a midday break that allowed them enough time to eat a good meal because they need to recharge their brains with physical activity. This will give students an extra push to have more energy when they return back to class. Critics may exaggerate that this method will do nothing but make students drained and exhausted personally I disagree. A mid-day break for an hour will do nothing but strengthen us, all of us. It also will give students extra time to finish unfinished assignments and homework that wasn't completed at
Day after day, late students are punished or end up in detention due to short passing periods. Having short passing periods can make a student’s grade go down or worse when students are late to class. This can be prevented by extending passing periods to 10 minutes. Although the staff at H.P.M.S may disapprove, but in the long run, they will see the effects of having longer passing periods has on students. Because of the short time of passing periods, students at Happy Place Middle School are petitioning to extend their passing period time to 10 minutes. In short, some of the positive effects are that students can get to class on time, and gives students and teachers time to prepare.
Should secondary school have recess? Secondary schools should not have recess, because it takes time out of class. Some schools don't have enough class time to teach or learn about the topic that they are learning so they don't have to reteach it to the students.
Why do we need summer break? One reason is kids need a break to recover from the academic and social pressure. Another reason is It is a tradition a time to create lasting memories. A third reason is Teachers need time to plan the upcoming year.
For instance, Martha Young, associate dean of the College of Education at the University of Nevada, reported to fairtest.org, “.....the quantity-over-quality approach to instructional time. We’ve unfortunately bought into the idea that more is better, and that isn’t always going to be the case, particularly when you’re talking about elementary school students. In some cases you can have a 12-hour school day and not make any more progress than you would in six hours.” This quote shows that kids need time to recollect themselves with a break. By getting a break, it can help them refocus and get more done. Additionally, The American Heart News Association, a news organization stated, “After recess, for children or after a corresponding break time for adolescents, students are more attentive and better able to perform cognitively.” This quote proves that getting a break in between is better than not getting one because a break helps kids refocus, instead of them not paying attention and getting nothing done. You could more work done in a less amount of time with a
During cognitive development it is important that teachers allow time for students to have breaks in between classroom tasks such as recess and other extracurricular activities. Learning large amounts of material is easier for children to understand when it is taken in as chunks. Assign children with short tasks and switch from demanding activities to less demanding activities (Biehler & Snowman, 2000).
Brain breaks are a must have in any classroom in the modern day. Brain breaks refocus students and allow blood to freely flow through the brain allowing for a better learning experience for students. They can really help you refocus, weather you are in elementary school, middle school, or high school. There are many types of brain breaks, and many different ones for different purposes. Some examples of brain breaks are yoga, crosswords, any physical movement, puzzles, and anything else that can challenge the brain. Brain breaks are an essential part of education today, students retain sixty percent more of what they learn in class with brain breaks implemented into everyday learning. Student performance in class
Maybe between twenty minutes of break that the student can read or start to write an English paper.
Many students feel very tired after a couple of months in school. Imagine if they never got time to be kids. Students need to have enough time to relax and be kids during their break. Even if students have the same amount of days off, One big break would be better for them. This would help with family vacations. Having summers off would help kids participate in other activities that they couldn't during the school year.
Students engaged in year-round school are less likely to forget material they learned before break. According to About.com, the shorter summer breaks help preventing summer learning loss in students. This means that since that information you learned over break is still fresh in your mind teachers can spend less time reviewing and more time teaching new material. The Prospect claims that with a shorter summer vacation the students will be able to start learning a lot sooner instead of having month...
Sleep is important and is needed to develop the brain. Sadly, sometimes schools don't completely understand this. So why do we need to start school around 8:00-8:30 am than what time we start now?
