Why do we need summer break? One reason is kids need a break to recover from the academic and social pressure. Another reason is It is a tradition a time to create lasting memories. A third reason is Teachers need time to plan the upcoming year.
One reason kids get summer vacation is because they need a break to recover from the academic and social pressure. According to Brittany Chu, kids get very excited when summer break rolls around because they get relief from the pressures during the school year. In addition, breaks gives kids time to recover from the school year. Likewise, summer gives time for kids to relax and prepare for the fall quarter (Chu). According to “Why is it important to keep traditions?” traditions why do we have traditions we have them because it is important to teach kids behaviors or beliefs. A lot of people celebrate traditions and this is just one of them. According to, some people think traditions are outdated. Traditions such as taking a vacation with family are very important to kids it gives them something to look forward to. For example, kids really like traditions like going to the beach every year or going to grandmas for thanks giving every year. For some families it is a tradition to go on a summer vacation every year if we have all year round school it could be more difficult for families to go on
Nonetheless, there is some resistance to schools converting to a year-round calendar. Most of that opposition comes from the reduction in intersession length, and some students and/or parents don 't like the idea of year-round education from the start. This gives families a reason to voice their opposition when both the parents and child 's schedules do not line up with one another. This usually affects households that wish to take long vacations over the course of a summer. Parents, in some cases, may oppose this change because of child care needs. Child care raises opposition since there is a shift in the school year calendar. Parents may not be able to find nannies or babysitters. In addition, parents will have to check for or maybe even search for new or different childcare services. To add, parents with multiple children may have to worry about their children being put
Another significant reason is summer vacation needs to be longer. The primary reason for this is children need time to wind down and relax before they have to go back to school. For instance, during the summer children relax and prepare for school, if they...
...on what they have learned by attending more days in school but not getting burned out on a traditional nine month school schedule. A few short breaks allows the mind to rest but not forget everything they have worked hard to achieve educational greatness. American society will achieve great things if the education system takes a step in all schools operating on a year round calendar.
In the United States, most schools still use a ten-month calendar that was developed when our country’s students needed school off to help with harvesting (Palmer). Trimble Local Schools Superintendent Kim Jones says, “year-round schooling is the notion of getting away from the old agrarian calendar...which was formed up around the planting season. Students were out of school from April until harvest to work in the fields,” (qtd. in Hapka). Under the agrarian system, most United States students are in school for nine to ten months, and get a two- to three- month summer vacation. However, the United States is no longer an agricultural-based society, and students have no need to take a three-month-long, unnecessary, not to mention disruptive break during the summer months; instead, the United States should switch the school systems to a year-round calendar.
The summertime is when kids play outside and do whatever they want. Some kids even go to day care or their friends’ house to do something different, “Many children go to summer camps where they learn many of important skills not covered in school” (Cooper 3). Doing work in the summer that does not interest them will make kids despise summer. It also will not let the kids do want they want to do in peace, because they will worry about the huge assignment they still have to finish, “…the backbreaking obligation to read Charles Dickens blighted June, ravaged July obliterated August” (Queenan,1). Some might argue that the long summer will make the children forget what they learned, but if the students cannot relearn what they already knew in a month or less, that means that they are not being taught correctly. In general, summer reading makes a students' summer into more school time, which is not helpful to them.
Year round schooling is becoming increasingly popular in the United States, and has shown positive academic benefits for students enrolled in year round schools. Many countries implement year round schooling, and academic ability of their students greatly surpasses those of the United States. Year round schooling, as well as increase in school days should be implemented in schools nationwide in the United States. The need for long summer vacations is non-existent, as society has become industrialized. Implementing year-round schooling, and increasing the number of school days will allow the United States to invest more time into education in order to grow and build academic success.
School is usually a huge part of every child’s daily agenda. Teenagers in high school basically dedicate their entire day to school and homework. Students in grade 8 are similarly going through the same process as high school students. As students work 2 months after the Winter Break, some of them tend to start reducing their quality of work. When we’re tired of doing school work for two straight months, why should we only receive a short March break?
During Summer break children can enjoy more unstructured time and families can go on vacations. Summer seems to be a large block of time that parents and kids can use to take a breather...But, there is a shadow that often hovers over this lengthy break - a shadow commonly called the summer slide.
For years, parents and educators have debated the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional school calendar, which has long summer vacations for all students. The longer you are away from school, the more you lose what you learned in the previous year. Studies have shown that children who know English as a second language benefit the most from year-round education because during the long summer break, they may not hear English for several months. Long summer breaks is a problem for traditional schools and the solution is to substitute traditional schools for year-round schools.
Would you consider going to a school where you learn year-round? Maybe this would be your ideal school, but, when would you get to have some time to go to summer camp, or get a summer job, or play a sport with games during the day? Schools with the traditional schedule may actually be a better choice, and not just because kids love summer break. Schools should have a traditional school year schedule instead of a year round schedule because there isn’t a significant difference between the students’ performance, and year round schedules make planning family vacations hard, make the teachers’ job more difficult, and are more expensive. Also, having a summer break allows kids to participate in activities that they would not be able to do on a year round schedule due to the shorter breaks.
The first reason for the traditional school year, the students should have a break time and they will spend time for the family traditional vacation. For summer breaks no longer term of YRE, the students will have three to four weeks shorter breaks then back to school. They attend school for more than 180 days calendars. For example, the students feel all the stress about heavily homework, test, studying, and quiz, but they need a break. In fact, summer vacation is a family tradition. YRE should give an opportunity for health and social education. In addition, the most United State school kids have lost their summer break in 2.5 million as their school districts options of YRE (“Year-Rou...
Teachers worry about their time being wasted while students are on break, they also have another big worry- getting the students to focus. Refocusing students can be hard, and teachers may worry giving students a break may cause problems. However, a much needed break can actually help students focus. Students’ attention spans are short and take time to absorb information for easy learning. Teachers think that allowing kids to go into the hallway is a mistake, because the students just want to be rowdy and mess around.
Also, a longer break would let them spend time with family members. Students would like a longer summer break to spend time with family members. Students could stay with other family members and cook out with them, play games with their family members, and talk with their family members as well.
When May comes for most kids only one thing is on their mind. Summer break! As they finish up their school the kids prepare for long lazy afternoons, swimming, and just being kids. They don’t need to worry about a paper that needs to be done or math homework! Instead they can just sit back and relax. I like many other kids however think of experience and worthwhile experiences when it comes to my summer break. While I certainly don’t want to leave out relaxing besides the beach, a summer break can give me experiences I couldn’t otherwise have such as practicing a new skill. My goals for the summer are to learn something that I don’t have time to learn during the school year, relax, and most importantly to just have fun.
Learning new things is hard when you do not have people who know what you are trying learn and help you, that is the problem when teach have summer homework on new and hard things without giving a help to the students that need it. Families are usually away from their homes for long periods of time and have chance to work on the homework that is given to them because their parents want to get way from everything that has to deal with work and students want to get away that has to deal with anything that involves school or homework. The students have worked year around with being given a break from the homework and due dates that loomed over their heads; they need the summer away from school and everything that deals with it. Having year around school is better than having homework during the summer for the students because during the summer the students are not thing about passing the next test or I have finish this by the period; plus with no homework during the summer means more sleep for the students which need it because most of them never get more than maybe 6 hours of sleep each night because of the homework they have to
