The Benefits Of Robots

I 'm a big technology guy, I love to see not only advancements in video game tech but seeing advancements in everyday technology. Like the ability to talk to a relative across the world, or fly to a business meeting miles away in a few hours. These are all great, but when do we go too far? Technology has advanced so far that we’ve gotten to the point that was only dream in the wildest of science fiction writers minds. We now have the technology for robotic employees, but they come at a cost. We may have these new and improved employees, but the old models, humans, are going to be left in the dust with their pockets empty and their jobs taken by robots. For years now our everyday life has been improved or made easier by technology. From the …show more content…

That robot doesn 't need the money to survive so why take away the benefits of having that little extra money when that person might really need it. Robots aren 't just taking away the jobs of factory workers but also of farmers. In his essay on robots in agriculture John Curry says, “Lux argues that in the near future, we are going to see farming robots that are not only cheaper than human labor, but capable of executing tasks with much more efficiency and accuracy. That could lead to higher crop yields for farmers and a workforce that doesn’t need to rest every few hours.” now this sounds great and all, but those are still jobs lost to either a farm hand or a farmer whose only source of income is his ability to work. These may look like they’re helpful for even small farmers, but these robots are still machines and machines need to be kept in working order. Who knows how much it’ll cost to keep a robot out in the fields among dirt and grime all day and be able to go out the next day and do the same thing. With more and more robots taking over you may be wondering “what jobs are being over run with robots” and “am I in danger of being replaced with Mr. Roboto?” well you just might …show more content…

One area that 's said to get a large impact is the customer service area. From the words of Olivia Solon “By 2021, robots will have eliminated 6% of all jobs in the US, starting with customer service representatives and eventually truck and taxi drivers. That’s just one cheery take away from a report released by market research company Forrester this week.” the amount of people who work in those fields is astronomical with the amount of jobs that are lost we may see a rise in poverty across the nation. My own father works in the trucking industry, and knowing his track record the odds of him finding a job that pays just as well is next to nothing. I don’t think this rise of robotic workers is in any way helpful to the progress an economy. The only people who benefit from robots are the CEO’s and owners of the business, because instead of having to pay all the workers their fair share, he or she only has to pay to keep the robot working which costs far less. If companies regulated the workforce where if you got a robot instead of firing workers teach them how to keep the robots working maybe robots would be helpful, but where it sits now robots would not help the economy or the poverty rates in america and across the
