These sectors also provide additional income to other industries, as they attract international visitors to sporting events and promote Australia as a travel destination. The sport, fitness and recreation industries play a crucial role in the health and wellbeing of Australians. The positive impact they have on the health of the population, and by extension, our economy, cannot be underestimated. As well as physical health, the industry promotes mental health of individuals and the health of society overall by building social cohesion and inclusion, especially among those who are most likely to feel the most excluded.

Sports can help many at- risk youths. In order to participate in sports you need to be committed and willing to work hard. You also have to learn to respect others and accept that winning isn’t the only measure of success. Losing can build character as well. When youth participate in a sports they enjoy, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to themselves and others. It is for these reasons schools should strive to maintain athletic programs for their students.

(1998. cited in Collins and Kay, 2003) found that sport can help to encourage the growth of community, family and personal cohesion as well as help reduce intensity of youth delinquency. From the observations made in this paragraph it is feasible to suggest that having an active nation will result in a wide spectrum of benefits.
Sports are loved by many people, it is not just a game to these people it is a way of life, the industry entertains society and gives them an escape from the norms of life.
