The Chicago Cubs, one of the legendary teams in America’s sports campaigns, a mission that extends far beyond success on the baseball field. While victories on the field are a central aspect of the organization's goals, the wins and losses do not define the soul mission of the Cubs. The Cubs’ have embedded their organization into the greater Chicago community, focusing on empowering underprivileged youth and families through a variety of engagement opportunities, including baseball. The Cubs’ organization meets its mission through Cubs Charities. Cubs Charities mobilizes the power of sport to champion youth, families, and communities. Additionally, Cubs Charities has partnered with the Robert R. McCormick Foundation to create the Cubs Charities Community Fund, also known as Cubs Care, to promote reading proficiency in 3rd graders, positive middle to high school transitions and post-secondary education support. Furthermore, this fund is utilized for community health centers, school-based health centers and childhood obesity prevention and treatment (Robert R. McCormick Foundation, 2023). The Chicago Cubs athletes not only promote the organization’s charity efforts, but also do their own philanthropic work funding and supporting similar target groups. Anthony Rizzo, a former Chicago Cubs player, began the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation the same year he joined the Cubs. Similarly to the Cubs Charities supporting families, The Rizzo Family Foundation provides direct financial and emotional support to children and their families who are battling cancer (Rizzo, 2012).
