Patrick Kane: A Legend On and Off the Ice
Patrick Kane is a hockey player for the Chicago Blackhawks and he “became the first American-born player to win the Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the NHL point leader at the end of the regular season” (“Patrick Kane”). His goal on ice may be to score a goal or to clinch a Stanley Cup victory, but off the ice he wants to be a role model to kids and to anyone else for that matter. He may have had a couple hiccups in the start of his career, but that does not stop the millionaire athlete from becoming one of the most well looked up to and respected hockey players in the NHL (“Patrick Kane Bio”). Patrick Kane is able to influence kids and others with his performance on and off the ice with the Chicago Blackhawks.
A charity that Kane does is the Chicago Blackhawks Charities. These charities are a variety of charitable events that happen throughout Northern Illinois, but mostly the Chicago area. They focus towards health, education, and housing. However their one goal is to “to serve local citizens and impact the lives of youth and their families in and

around the city of Chicago” ("Chicago Blackhawks Charities). This charity is possibly only from the Blackhawks in general, but that does not mean that Patrick and other players for that matter can not contribute to these events and help others too. Kaner and the Chicago Blackhawks are able to give the items these people need the most along with generosity and happiness. Besides the Chicago Blackhawks Charities, Patrick Kane is able to join in with the National Hockey League in Hockey Fights Cancer. This foundation is when the NHL organization, the teams, and the fans raise awareness and money towards Cancer. In the past 19 years everyone was able to raise up to $20 million dollars to support the research to cancer, local hospitals, children's hospitals, and other charities ("Hockey Fights Cancer”). Even though this may come from the NHL, it is because Kaner, the Chicago Blackhawks, and other NHL teams and players can give their money towards the research to cancer or children’s hospitals. But that is not all they can do, they can convince the fans to donate or spread the foundation to other people because the fans care, respect, and look up to the athletes. Patrick Kane and the NHL organization are able to make little kids and other cancer patients smile again with the help from Hockey Fights Cancer. Even though some people separate sports games and charities as different events, not for Patrick Kane for that he contributed to Champs for Charity. This charity was able to raise “over $323,000 for the Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.” This was not only a charity event that Kaner could give to, but he also played a game and scored 4 goals in the game (Rogers, Jesse). But that is not all has done, but he and other players also “spent the afternoon at Evanston Hospital, where they handed out Christmas gifts to patients” (CSN Staff). This charity may have been generous towards the fondation, but this MVP hockey player and other Blackhawks players were able to give much more to the charity and the fans. Also Patrick and the Blackhawks were able to take their time off and provided gifts to the sick kids that usually do not get the time for Christmas. Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks took the time out of their hands to give a foundation the money it needed and joy to the sick children at Evanston Hospital. Usually some athletes are too busy to supply money to some charities or go attend some events, but this is not the case for Kane.
Some hockey enthusiasts say that Patrick Kane “is an elite hockey player, but more importantly a true winner” (“Patrick Kane Quotes”). People can take that in differently some think he can be a true winner because of his performance on ice. However, it could also mean how he could have a true heart to those fans out there who do not have the money to see him play in the United Center or that they are too sick to watch it for that matter, which makes him the true winner. Kaner is able to be a role model for these kids whether he is scoring goals for the Hawks or by spending time his time in charity events. Patrick Kane is able to make a living by playing the sport he loves and to spread that love to others out there whether he is on or off the

Sports fans look up to athletes and inspire to resemble their favorite athlete. Peyton Manning inspired fans, by revolutionizing the quarterback position. Likewise, Tim Duncan entertained fans, by playing at a consistent level of greatness night in and night out. In addition, Joe Montana was the master of the comeback, leading his team for game-winning touchdowns under the most pressure. All of these amazing Hall of Fame players´ only possess a few of Tom Brady's traits that made him the greatest football player of all time. Thus Brady inspires many people to compete and be the best they can be, he also brought hope to sports fans which made Tom Brady a hero.
He has set just about every record in the NHL, or gave the holder a good fight, and has skills in every aspect of the game, not just those of a forward. Wayne has received countless amounts of awards from most goals scored in a season, to the most gentlemanly player award, which no other player has even come close to obtaining, and he has won more championships and Stanley Cups than anyone has ever needed to. He is, and always will be, "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky.
He experienced joy, pain, satisfaction and disappointment through it, but ultimately, he let social pressure overcome his spirit and change who he was meant to become. Hockey allowed him to physically and mentally mature as a person, but it was the sport itself, at the end, that led to his destruction. His journey as a player is a clear representation of the racism that is still unconditionally present in our community and that has to be overcome in order obtain social equity in sports and other recreational
David Ortiz is an icon because of his contributions to the welfare of children and to baseball. His charity raises money to give kids medical care that they need or don’t have access to, and trains doctors and nurses. He has made significant contributions to baseball by changing the designated hitter’s role and donating equipment to children in need. If more wealthy people followed Ortiz’s humanitarian values, many of our current problems like poverty, racism and education imbalance would most likely not exist.
First we can begin with the early years of this legend. In the wonderful place of Brantford, Ontario, Canada a legend was born on January 26, 1961. Wayne was the oldest in his family, being born first having four other siblings. Wayne wasn’t the biggest human being around that’s why his father was discouraged. His father still had hope in Wayne becoming a hockey player. The first time Gretzky ever received his first pair of skates he was only three years old. Gretzky always was fascinated about skating. Gretzky skated at many places, mostly on the weekends these places including the Ninth River and at public rinks. Wayne’s father admired Wayne’s affection for skatin...
“…He catches it off the board pass; here is ‘The Great One’ Wayne Gretzky! He dangles in front of the last defender with five seconds left; he has the open net in sight! HE SCORES! He has broken the record folks; 50 goals in 39 games!” - (Live Broadcast from Edmonton, Alberta: Dec. 30 1981.) Wayne Gretzky has been deemed one of the most influential figures in the National Hockey League (NHL). Last but not least, Patrick is also described as a hero. Patrick is a hero because he helped lots of peoples lives in the plane crash. He made sure everybody who was injured was taken care of. Even though he was scared, he pulled through and forgot about being scared. Patrick wasn't even thinking about being a paramedic, he was thinking about saving the lives of the people. Yet it was hard for Patrick because he was only a junior, but he didn't care. Again Patrick pulled through and helped
Children shouldn't be given participation trophies, this can cause false sense of confidence and it can make them expect to always be a winner in life. This can affect them every day not everyone will nail that job interview or win the game and it will be hard on them not being able to except that they lost or couldn't do it. You don't get paid to just show up at a job, you have to work. You don't win by showing up to the hockey
on top, it makes it difficult to compare him to Sidney Crosby. But, since the evolution of hockey
The cast members were classically trained theatrical actors, and none had ever made a movie. While there are many unimpressive performances in Citizen Kane none of them were weak. It was filled with an A-rate cast and the actors worked together well as an ensemble. Perhaps, no performance was better than Orson Welles portraying all of Kane’s walks of life. From young and charismatic, to middle aged somber and assuming the end justified the mean instead of arguing it, to old quiet and wounded a man who had fought and lost time and time again Orson Welles delivers stunningly convincing performances at every “age”.
He didn’t take his sport seriously because he knew he was going to get a trophy anyway, whether he won or lost. Giving a trophy to a kid who maybe didn’t participate in a game but tried his absolute hardest in practice to get better is understandable. However, giving a kid who did nothing in practice to make himself better just shows that child that you don’t need to work for anything in life because either way you will get rewarded. “There are two kinds of people, those who do the work and those who take the credit. Try to be in the first group; there is less competition there.” And what about those kids who aren’t that great at activities, or they don’t show up to practices? Should they still get a trophy? Are they qualified to sit in the same category as a kid who works their butts off in practice, shows up everyday, and is a good sport? I understand showing that everyone is equal, but there comes a point when you have to show a child that they need to work for what they
One of these players is Phil Mickelson. Phil is one of the best golfers today and of all time. Phil is one of the best short game players of all time. He has also won many titles and won many other competition. Phil causes a lot of kids to practice harder and become better golfers, because he has made so many amazing golf shots. Phil also sets the standards for the golfers like he says, “The object of golf is not just to win. It is to play like a gentleman, and win,”(Mickelson). Phil is a very great person and an even better golfer. This is amazing that kids today look up to such a great person and golfer, that person being Phil.
Jimmy worked like a demon to make up for the difference. By age 8, Jimmy was skillful enough to enter into tournaments, and he made a good showing in them. Jimmy did not win his first tournament until he was in the ten-year-old competition. The losses only gave him determination and the wins only gave humbleness. Jimmy Connors, a paragon of all sorts, had an unconquerable spirit. Jimmy knew that he had to be himself out on the tennis courts if he wanted to succeed. At times in Jimmy’s career, he was known as a spoiled brat for his cocky attitude. He was often called “mouth”. He had this spirit ever since he was a young boy. Being the smaller kid of his age group, he had to have something to hold onto.
