Procter and Gamble has produced one of the most successful and award winning advertising campaigns in history. The effective video marketing of “Thank You Mom” created powerful emotions in viewers, which resulted in increased market share for the organization. Procter and Gamble research revealed that women, once become mothers, had increased appreciation for their own mothers, specifically 48% with appreciation for empathy and 52% with appreciation for her emotional strength (Procter and Gamble 2016 Fiscal Highlights). What has made the campaign the most effective is the elements of continuing stories, videos marketed on social media, and strong emotional connection with the target audience of household mothers. This campaign is clearly aligned with the four identified goals of balanced growth, which includes “accelerating top-line growth” (Procter and Gamble 2016 Fiscal Highlights). The warm fuzzies created by the emotional videos also increased shareholder return. Strengths of the organization have allowed the company to take advantage of existing resources and also to adapt marketing strategies due to results of research and development. Shared warehouses and factories create economies of scale and excellent research and development has led to an innovative focus on using video commercials within social media (Bhasin). The main medium of the “Thank You Mom” campaign is social media; Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have all been used to connect with the changing view habits of women in the modern world. Marc Pritchard, Global Brand Officer for Procter and Gamble, considers digital technology a “creative canvas”, this innovation has led to a shift to a digital-first approach, including this campaign, in company marketing; Pritchard summarizes the marketing results this way, “It is both more efficient and more effective than any medium advertisers P&G worked with in the past." (Dan). Emerging technology is being used to both build new brands and increase market share of existing brands. This marketing strategy strength combined with the international event of the Olympics created an opportunity for the organization to increase global market share and also introduce brands to new world markets. There is some company weakness in the money lost in the closure of over two hundred brands, as well as threats in a very competitive market and the constantly changing world of digital technology
In their advertisements, the St. Jude Children’s Hopsital Research Foundation packs their thirty second commercials with as many rhetorical appeals as possible. The purpose of these celebrity-endorsed commercials is to encourage viewers to donate to the foundation, and the producers have creatively inserted various rhetorical appeals in hopes to sway viewers to open their wallets. By using an immense amount of rhetorical appeal; including ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos, the St. Jude Children’s Hospital Research Foundation has successfully created an informative and heartfelt commercial that has inspired many to donate to medical research for children.
Dove addressed a prominent issue in young girls’ lives today by their use of kairos. Through ethos, Dove develops a strong ethical appeal to their audience. The commercial would not be impactful without the use of pathos to appeal to the audience's emotion. The use of logos gives an argument and a solution to the self-esteem issue. Although the Dove Self-Esteem Project commercial does have native advertising that sells their product indirectly and commits many fallacies, the ethical and emotional appeal in the commercial makes the project not only relatable, but
The commercial emphasizes an altruistic parent-child relationship throughout. It shows all of the incredible ways a father sees his daughter grow through her first years of life and the impact she has on him. Using this relationship coupled with the nostalgia-inducing music played throughout the commercial provides the audience with a feeling of saudade that shapes the advertisement.
The victories of the Olympians shown in the commercial indicates that no one come across success just by hoping for it. You need the strength of mind and body to struggle and work hard to reach your fullest potential. You also need the sponsor of others, in this case, moms, to help you set the right attitude and drive towards success. P&G reveals the importance of hard working and how they work hard every day to make quality products and services that improve people’s lives. One theme carried through the entire video was a nonviable language—failing. The whining babies, the crying children, the falling kids and so on. But they considered failure as stepping stone and never given up. P&G also thinks of its failures as gifts and parts of its growth and development. The real connection between P&G and the Olympics is moms. Behind Olympic athletes, there is the loving support of dedicated moms who are out there putting all their efforts for their child. Procter & Gamble celebrates the role of mothers played in the careers of several of the Olympics stars. With heavy emotional music and spare use of language, this campaign has a significant impact conveying love for the mother, fulfillment for the athlete and self-reflection for everyone. “P&G, Proud Sponsor of Moms”, P&G is in the business of helping and honoring
The proliferation of social media helps customers become more empowered and engaged in their brand interactions, while also providing them with new tools in their search, evaluation, choice and purchases of marketing offerings” (Vinerean, 2017). Therefore, it is essential that the former Genaflek employees enhance their skill set to include social media marketing tactics. They have been using more traditional marketing methods such as paper and television ads, focus groups, and press releases. RPZ will invest in an ongoing continuing education program. The program will allow employees to gain and retain the skills to become competitive in today’s market using social media concepts. RPZ will also hire a social media professional, as a consultant, who would be able to start the educational process and the continuing education program. They will introduce the former RPZ Social Media Analytics and new employees to systems and approaches used in traditional
It is shocking the extravagant amounts of money that companies are willing to pay to advertise their products. By making their products a part of the child’s life they are allowing the product to become a norm in the life of a child.
4) Viral-Quotient per Content (Any Media) - Most popular YouTube video was viewed 200,000 times. On an average, a video was viewed 1600 times. This builds upon the idea of Customer engagement, and Content distribution in the social space, that relates heavily to the very purpose of such a campaign. Also, this entire communication was user-generated, so the message didn’t look, at least to say, to be coming out in the form of ‘Company Promotion’.
More people are utilizing different mediums, such as social networking, in order to speak out against the oppression and misrepresentation of women in social and professional environments. Pantene displays the hashtag “#ShineStrong” at the end of the commercial, which is a highly effective way of expanding the ad into other mediums of mass media. Through expansion, viewers will be more likely to not only talk about the effectiveness of Pantene’s ad, but also raise awareness about the issues surrounding women on their personal social networking pages. Pantene’s ad offers a message of empowerment to all women and encourages them to stop succumbing to the idea that male dominance is acceptable. By incorporating a greater purpose into the ad, it creates a “halo effect” on the brand. Companies do this in hopes that, if executed properly, the brand will be associated with a good message, giving them a greater appeal to buyers when compared with other brands. Aside from its empowering message, the ad also has comedic aspects, which makes it appealing to a wider range of viewers. To some degree, the ad is successful because it provides encouragement to women and creates a strong message; at the same time, the clip fails to advertise the actual
Today, McDonald 's advertisements have begun to trend family-oriented. And in McDonald 's ad, McDonald was good at expressing the beautiful and warm family images by adverting strategy to reflect the importance of the family. However, most of the humorous content and passion are appeared in advertisements. According to the statistics, McDonald spends more than 700 million dollars on advertising expenses, for the reason to strengthen imagery of social relations and try to keep the meaning of communities and families back to the golden arches. (8,Helmer, 1992) For example:“Olympic effort" is McDonald 's bid to build a closer relationship with mothers. The 30-second ad first ran to coincide with Mother 's Day in the US and has been repurposed for the Olympics. Women at various stages of pregnancy are featured in a celebration of motherhood.
