On Monday, November 6th, I visited an Indian restaurant in Pasadena called All India Cafe. Because I am an Egyptian, it was very pleasing to visit an ethnically different restaurant in quite a while. This restaurant specializes in a fascinating and extensive dishes of authentic indian cuisine. Their meals are far more colorful than my cultural meals, ranging from red, green and orange curries to fresh herbs and spices. Ther interior design of the cafe was very traditional; Indian music as well as art and decoration greeted me with vibrant scents of the kitchen.
Who worked there: the staff were of Indian origin. There were two servers, and three kitchen personnel. The cafe was quite small so the need for more employees seemed unnecessary.

So including him and his wife, a couple sat outdoors, and two more parties joined for dinner. Interestingly, most of the people who ate there were of ethnicities other than Indian, suggesting that the cafe attracts a diverse audience to enjoy their delicious meals.
Does the food seem authentic or Americanized: The food was certainly not Americanized, and what I found profound is that despite the demand for Americanized food in the foodservice industry, this cafe holds strongly to the roots of their original recipes and specialties. Even the portions of the dishes seemed relatively small to most Americanized dishes. Despite their small sizes, they were fulfilling and delicious.
General observations about the restaurant (organization, cleanliness, etc): because of its small architecture, the restaurant seemed compressed, but the organization of the tables were cleverly set to accommodate for quite a lot of people. There were outdoor tables available as well. The cafe was also very clean; the tables were covered by paper sheets to prevent the tables from staining. It was nicely decorated with traditional paintings and ribbons. As the sun setted during my meal, dim lights illuminated the cafe internally and externally, which set a very relaxing atmosphere. The customer service was very hospitable and generous as I was offered multiple dish suggestions
One quality that is involved in a restaurant is the atmosphere and the positive energy it gives off. Considering the Western theme, they have the restaurant well decorated from the entrance, to the place where you sit. The walls are painted with tumbleweeds on them, with great lighting that allows you to see, and not go blind. The plates and silverware are very nice, as is the food that goes into them.
North of Manhattan, a good cup of coffee is hard to come by; the taste is lacking in strength and not much thought is put into its production. Profit-seeking coffee chains like Dunkin Donuts and Donut Delight are widespread and lack in quality. More often than not, coffee is a $3 afterthought of dessert, rather than a delicacy in itself. Lorca cafe, situated in downtown Stamford on Bedford Street, appreciates the artistry and skill that must be employed to brew a decent cup of coffee. Spanish and western-Mediterranean influences are uniform throughout the flavors and venue. The chic, modern atmosphere is equipped with ample power outlets to provide the perfect workplace for the productive coffee drinker. Imported foreign blends and locally baked goods unite to create a perfect harmony of flavors from near and far. The Instagram-famous aspect of the restaurant appeals to social media butterflies with an affinity for art. Dynamic artwork, the friendly staff, and addicting flavors encourage recurrent visits.
Adding all these factors together, it paints a picture of this New Chinatown that is set in its ways when it comes to the food they eat and prepare. The absence of a farmers’ market or community garden does not seem to matter much, as the availability of typical Asian food is more than adequate to this community.
American style of food Cuisine as it’s frequently used in the essay is very unique in the eyes of Sequeira. She believes The diverse culture had brought together different styles and techniques of food choices to choose from. These food choices however are very unhealthy but satisfy the Americans to their needs. Throughout the essay the author Shona Sequeiras states the unhealthy food habit that American has created in their society. She states how Americans forms many simple dishes into something very exotic For example; “Request an American cookie, and you can be showered with hundreds of delectable options, including oatmeal raisin, double chocolate chip, macadamia pecan delight, and coconut brownie (Sequeiras
The Chinatown neighborhood has different restaurants, including a Korean and numerous Chinese restaurants. The Chinatown neighborhood has many gift stores, cosmetics stores, ice cream stores, and bakery. As Harry Kiang’s Chicago’s Chinatown points out, “Tourists shop for oriental gifts or groceries or enjoy Chinese food; along Wentworth Avenue between 22nd and 24th Streets there are at least 30 Chinese restaurants. Printers and bakeries are found in the commercial areas along Wentworth Avenue and Cermak Road” (Encyclopedia of Chicago). Many visitors came to the Chinatown neighborhood to visit the neighborhood and try the Chinese foods because it has the authentic Chinese food in the Chinese restaurants. Since many people came to the Chinatown and consumed in the neighborhood’s shops, the consumption promoted the local commercial development and increasing the economic growth. Therefore, the residents are very happy to have the shops and appeal to the
I remember the first time I came to America; I was 10 years old. Everything was exciting! From getting into an airplane, to viewing magnificent, huge buildings from a bird’s eye view in the plane. It was truly memorable. After staying few days at my mother’s house, my father and I wanted to see what Dallas looks like. But because my mother was working the whole day, it wasn’t convenient for her to show us the area except only on Sundays. Finally, we went out to the nearby mall with my mother. My father and I were astonished after looking at a variety of stores. But after looking at different stores, we were finally tired and hungry, so we went into McDonald’s. Not being familiar with fast food restaurants, we were curious to try American
Sociological concepts pertaining to age, gender, and appearance were also noted and applied. The reason why “We love Banhmi” was chosen to be an ideal observation place is because of its location: very close to Astoria, thus making it accessible to local members like students, business people as well as travelers and visitors. Thanks to its reputation for traditional sandwiches and other tasty Vietnamese street foods along with fast serving process, the restaurant is getting more and more popular, and attracts customers from different cultural backgrounds to come and enjoy Vietnamese cuisine. No alcoholic drinks are sold here. It is also supposed to be a fairly inexpensive place to eat, with its classical décor, cozy atmosphere, and relaxed environment, making it a perfect place to observe and record the interactions....
Food is traditionally considered as a simple means of subsistence but has developed to become filled with cultural, psychological, religious, and emotional significance. Consequently, food is currently used as a means of defining shared identities and symbolizes religious and group customs. In the early 17th and 18th centuries, this mere means of subsistence was considered as a class maker but developed to become a symbol of national identity in the 19th centuries. In the United States, food has been influenced by various cultures such as Native American, Latin America, and Asian cultures. Consequently, Americans have constantly Americanized the foods of different cultures to become American foods. The process on how Americans have Americanized different cultures’ foods and reasons for the Americanization is an important topic of discussion.
In the morning I turn my alarm clock off and fall back asleep then I realize I was late for school I believe that middle school should start later. No one wants to wake up at 6:00 in the morning, students will be more awake in school, it will be less stressful for students in the morning. That is three reasons why we should not wake up at 6:00.
I believe that in order to preserve the authenticity of regional cuisine the people preparing the foods need to possess knowledge about their culture, an understanding of the ingredients they are using, and the ingredients they select must be from their region and no other. In their ess...
The movie “The Hundred Foot Journey” is a great representation of different cultures interacting as well as the different food habits. The movie is based on an Indian family who moves to Italy and wants to open an Indian restaurant across street from a famous Italian restaurant in the small town. The Kadam family wants to bring the Indian cuisine to a new culture and share some of their values. They have trouble expanding their culinary delights to the public because Marquerite the sous-chef doesn’t want any competition. Throughout the movie, secrets on certain dishes are shared and tricks to improve the certain style of food is greatly appreciated by both restaurant chefs.
Some ethnic restaurants do not conserve authenticity in their food. For multiple reasons, such as the lack of certain ingredients and the difference of the local’s taste that forces restaurants to change the way they cook their dishes to serve their customers what they want. Therefore, this can give culturally inexperienced people the wrong idea of a certain culture. For example, the fast-food restaurant chain “Taco Bell” that serve Mexican food may give Americans the idea that this is what Mexican people usually eat. Taco Bell would represents the Mexican culture in a different way than what it truly is. This does not only happen in the United States. For example, in the middle-east (where I am from) people believe that McDonalds, KFC and Carls Jr. are American foods and that an American family’s regular dinner would usually be these sorts of foods. This reflects differently on what is true about the culture. Although it is true that altered versions of an ethnic dish may present the culture differently than what it really is, this is not the case for everyone. Even Taco Bell could be the starting point for a person to start exploring authentic dishes of Mexican food. Therefore, it boosts the chances that the person will be motivated to learn about Mexican culture. According to Kwast and Kim, “It seems that Ms. Sibley’s efforts to foster
...l, the city hosts a number of ethnic restaurants that range from luxurious to more accommodating pricing and atmosphere.
I went up to the concierge moments later and asked if she had any recommendations for my family and I to eat dinner somewhere near the hotel that evening and she proceeded to give me many recommendations after asking me what kind of food I was looking for. I truly appreciate the time and effort she dedicated to help my family and I decide where to eat dinner that evening, since it was our first time there. We ended up going to a local seafood restaurant in the area and I thanked the young lady working at the concierge the next day before we left for such a great recommendation and she was thrilled to know she made a difference in our stay. The lobby was very high class and I was generally impressed by the hotel and it’s luxurious accommodations. The lobby had a nice, relaxing bar by the name of “Bleau Bar”, which was filled with quite a few businessman chatting having drinks. The furniture in the lobby was very antique, to convey the hotel’s French period theme and had beautiful chandeliers that were absolutely breathtaking to look
We’ve gotten ourselves another cab and decided that we wanted to learn more about the culture we’re visiting. Mainly wanted to know about the food, we were still hungry. They had restaurants that we were familiar with but there was something different about them. In this country, they do not eat pork. It’s against their religion. Some of the common food places like McDonald’s, Burger King, and so on, didn’t have pork or chicken. My dad even brought KFC and they made rice as an exception. All the food was still delicious and taste even
