Text messaging is affecting teen Literacy. Teens spend most of the day on their phones, but have you ever wondered the average time they spend on their phone. Teens text a lot, but how many times a month do teens text . Teens can be indolent and use text abbreviations on their schoolwork.
Teens spend most of the day on their phone, but what is the average they spend texting a day. “Teens spend about 9 hours a day on their phones”, Wallace Kelly. Some teens send 2272 texts per month. Kenneth Burke says “Over 560 billion texts are sent every month worldwide and over the years it keeps increasing because technology keeps increasing.” Teens spend the most days on their phones, because technology keeps improving each day. As technology improves teens want to keep up to date with the new technology so they spend their days on their phones.
Teens often get lazy and use texting abbreviations on their schoolwork. Parents have found out that 64% of teens have admitted that the “ text language” has shown in school work. Dulcinea Staff says, “ Students who blogged or participated in social networking sites were more likely use informal language in school assignments, but 73 percent did not see e-communication as “real writing” and said it had “no impact” on their schoolwork.” Teens try to find the easy way and use texting abbreviations on their school work.
In conclusion, text messaging is affecting teen literacy. Teens spend most of the day on their phone ,to keep up with the new trends, gossip , ect. Teens send up to 2272 text messages a month.
