An average person tries to follow a set of beliefs, an above average person follows a set of beliefs. Tons of people argue whether they should follow the Ten Commandments or the Beatitudes. The Ten Commandments can only be viewed one way while the Beatitudes seem vague and can be construed in a multitude of different ways. The Beatitudes look complex and confusing, whereas the Ten Commandments demonstrate simplicity, if a culture had to choose a set of rules to live by, the Ten Commandments would lead to more prosperity and well-being. Generally speaking, the Beatitudes seem to confuse people. The ideas that Jesus tried to get across can easily become lost in translation. For those reasons and the simplicity of the ideas, the Ten Commandments should be followed. Exodus 20:3 reads “You shall have no other gods before me.” People in today’s society that choose to follow these religious beliefs would simply have to obey one God, which sounds quite simple. The second commandment basically says that man should not bow down to anyone or any object other than God himself (Exodus 20:4-6). This rule mimes the first commandment. If people would follow these two guidelines, cultures that have differences with each other would finally come together and get along. No doubt, this system would lead to less violence and war. The third commandment plainly says that man should not use the Lord’s name in vain. This commandment seems to be an uncomplicated idea to follow, all people would just have to not curse with the Lord’s name (Exodus 20:7). Consequently, the simple ideology of the Ten Commandments would aid society a great deal. Exodus 20:13-15 reads “You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal.” These rules get right to the point and anyone cognitive could understand them. The Ten Commandments read straightforward and understandable.
