In today’s society, technology is becoming increasingly common. Not only are people upgrading their latest technology, but so are schools and colleges throughout the United States. However, this is posing as a concern for several parents, teachers, and students. These individuals are concerned that converting how children learn to strictly technology will induce more obstacles in the long run. In relation to the concern regarding technology, some individuals speculate that if schools stick to textbooks, then the students would be at less of an advantage. Technology broadens the learning abilities of students by offering many, if not several, ways to study, learn, and develop. Teachers who support technology believe it offers much more to their students’ education by implementing a much clearer picture of what they are learning--rather than textbooks which only provide information and elemental review questions. Technology allows students to apply themselves more in school, but teachers throughout the country fear computers/tablets are distracting their students more than anything. While technology offers a fast and efficient way to learning techniques and study tools, students are decreasing their effort in class because the answers to a worksheet are only a couple ‘clicks’ away. Everything they need to know is at the very tip of their fingers. Lawler, an English teacher that teaches at New Trier High School, stresses that his students are processing more than they are actually learning when they use computers.
