There are many benefits in working as a team. Teamwork can be very beneficial to organizations and create synergy in the workplace. Group Dynamics for Teams states that “Organizations are shifting away from individual work performed in hierarchical work structures and toward team-based operations”. (Levi, 2014, p. 16) I have worked on teams that have been problematic and I have worked on teams that have been outstanding. I think that it is great to have different minds come together for one goal. I don't think that a company can be successful if everyone had the same thought process. It takes a variety of things to make a great team. It takes open communication with all team members and management, strong leadership, and acknowledging the dysfunctions of the team. Also, learning your own natural gifts and what you can bring to the team. Good leadership and having the right dynamic of people on your team will make a difference.

Working in the corporate world for most of my career, there has been many strength/personality assessments that have been given. Personally, I have taken Myers Briggs, DISc, Color Code, and Strengths Finder 2.0. When I saw the reading list for this class, my first thought was, here we go again. I was pleasantly surprised with this assessment.
I love the way the author Marcus Buckman explains the two strongest strengths "We wanted an assessment that would reveal your edge and give you practical innovations to help you sharpen this edge. Where StrengthsFinder was descriptive and affirming, we wanted StandOut to be prescriptive and innovating." (Buckingham, 2011, p. 27). The idea of the book is to build on your strengths, not just how to improve my weaknesses. Standout not only gave me my strengths, it also gave me steps to use them. The book breaks each strength down and how to use each one to your
My team consists of four other people besides myself, Lauren Chojnaki, Alexa-Louise Patnode, and Jacobe Loewen, and Ryan Tyriver. Together, we are tasked with the mission to complete a stakeholder analysis regarding a specific organization and their structure. For this project to be completed successfully, it is important that all team members are able to cooperate with one another and are able to use their different strengths to create the best end product.
Identifying and understanding your own personal strengths is key to being a successful leader. Knowing your strengths means you can focus your efforts to maximize results, in yourself and in others. Strengths Finder 2.0 is designed to uncover your strengths and utilize these strengths to your advantage (Rath, 2007). Identifying and applying these strengths to your leadership style, will enhance your effectiveness as a transformational leader.
The Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment with a fun experience that provided very useful information about myself. The questions were interesting and thought provoking. However, the time limit on each question meant that most responses were my first instinct or gut response. I think the time limit keeps a person from over thinking the questions and makes them respond with an answer that is true to who they are. I agree with the five strongest areas identified in my assessment which were strategic, futuristic, learner, command, and ideation (Clifton, Anderson, & Schreiner, 2006)
When employees have a say in their roles in the workplace they are happier, healthier and more productive. People are social creatures and it is not surprising that working in a team environment can increase productivity, reduce boredom and complacency, while increasing respect and loyalty towards employers.
After completing the Clifton strength finders test, I learned my dominant strengths and it gave me a sense on what areas I am strong in. It allows you to work in the areas that you are good in and not in the ones you might not be as strong in. My top five strengths were learner, connectedness, belief, positivity, and includer. A lot of these I figured I would have because I am an athlete and I love to be positive. That is good because I practice these strengths every day which in turn will make me better at them and will allow me to use them in my career.
In the lecture presentation by Dr Homes (Homes) he discussed how the strength-finder is a tool that he uses in his operations to help and identify strengths that both compliment and fill missing gaps. These assessments help identify compatibility. Compatibility includes your co-workers, superiors, subordinates and other in the work place but also in your personal life. He discussed the need to understand the strength of others so that we can relate to them better. And by relating better, we are able to manage, motivate and lead them better. He clearly articulated the value of the strength finder assessment for better leadership.
As a matter of self-knowledge, I have taken the Clifton StrenghtsFinder assessment, my five top strengths were revealed. Rath explains that my results are unique to me. Even though others may share one or more of the strengths identified for me, they may be manifested in other ways. As an Achiever, the assessment explains that I am a self-motivated, hard worker who can spend hours studying, reading, and researching. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills through coaching, mentoring, or training. I set lofty goals for myself and relentlessly pursue them.
First, I want to say that when I took the quiz to find out my top 5 strengths I was not surprised. It was kind of funny to read them off the screen the first time; I was like duh I know that, that describes
My first and strongest strength is adaptability. At first I didn’t agree that I was adaptable; I have had a difficult transition from my life back into school. Once I started reading the passages on this skill I began to see how I am capable of
After a review of my performance in the assigned group, I have learned a great deal about myself and behavior in the team-setting situation. This is not the first experience in a team-setting. Previous team setting experiences were conducted in sporting and recreational environments rather than academics. While the setting and the environments were indeed different, there were many commonalities and correlations between the team settings I previously experiences and the current academic team-setting experience for this academic course project.
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
Many times people forget that teamwork is a combination of the words TEAM and WORK. Which means it takes more than a combined group of people or a team, but it takes that and actions. Positivity, effective skills and effort from each group member. A good team member does their share of work in the group. equity and fairness are key in being a good team member also. A few other characteristics that help a group be successful are , positivity, complimenting other members, communication skills and fairness. By fairness I mean allowing everyone the chance to do something. This group project taught me the ability to be a team player. This is a skill needed to be successful in a group. I feel like it benefit me and my group members because normally
In order for teamwork to be successful in the workplace it involves building a relationship and working with other people. The ability to work as part of a team is one of the most important skills in today’s job market. Working cooperatively and contributing to groups with ideas, and suggestions benefits everyone. A key to team effectiveness
Teamwork is defined as, “the process of working collaboratively with a group of people in order to achieve a goal.” (Business Dictionary, n.d.) Ultimately, it provides us with a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of unity amongst each other. It allows us to create healthy relationships, and bond further with our peers, and generally, it’s a necessity for our lives. Teamwork aids us with developing imperative life lessons and skills. It also helps us gain a new perspective, and discover our strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I believe that I work well in a team, and I possess the skills of a good leader. Regardless, some individuals
Many businesses place an emphasis on the importance of teamwork. A good team consists of people with different skills, abilities and characters. A successful team is able to blend these differences together to enable the organisation to achieve its desired objectives.
