Tasteless By David Sedaris: My Relationship With Food

“Food”, it’s something we consume every single day, and may sometime overlook its purpose of satisfying our hunger. In articles like Tasteless by David Sedaris, and Food is Good by Anthony Bourdain they describe their relationship with food, and how they have evolved into having food be their job and life. My personal views on food have changed greatly since I was a kid and have matured in many different ways. My relationship with food was based on having more cheap, processed and pre-made food, but I have grown to appreciate having good quality despite the higher price tag.
My whole life I have enjoyed having more for less. I didn’t care for the taste in food, I just cared that it was something that would fill me up and give me energy for the whole day. I never cared before that a certain type of food would fill me up more or that another would give me more energy or more muscles. I just considered food as food with no special purpose or that it has its own universe of types and flavors. My view of food was similar to David Sedaris’ in the Article Tasteless, David describes how at the dinner table, “There was plenty to go around, some of it brown, some of it green, and some a color I’ve come to think of, almost dreamily as enough.” My relationship with food was in the exact same manner. I always would prefer buying a premade meal such as a Kids Cuisine from the store, rather than making our own homemade fries from potatoes or homemade mac-and-cheese. I had grown to just popping the tray into the microwave for like 3 minutes, then “BAM” it’s done and ready for you to eat. I always thought why try something new or make it at home when you can have it prepared and ready for you to eat. You also know you won’t hate it since you had it many times
