Before every workout, or any physical activity in which we engage in, people always look for a liquid to drink to help replace all the fluid that our body used to control body temperature, supply oxygen and nutrients to our working muscles and dispose of waste, through the perspiration process. Yet, when it comes to choosing our prefered drink, someone may be stuck between choosing the flavorful sports drink or the pure natural water that our body is comprised of. In a nutshell electrolytes are substances that are soluble in water and after being completely dissolved, they give ions. Early summer, about forty-eight years ago in 1965, University of Florida assistant football coach, Dwayne Douglas, sat down and wondered why so many of his players were suffering from heat strokes and heat related illnesses during games or practice. So, he went to the university physicians and asked them to determine why this was happening. Not long after it was discovered that two key factors were causing the Florida Gator players to suffer from these conditions: the fluids and electrolytes the players were losing during the events were not being put back into the body, and the massive amounts of carbohydrates the players' bodies used for energy were not being replenished. So, he decided to create Gatorade. To find the answer we performed an experiment. We decided to put the drinks to the test by exercising, and then seeing how well we shoot 10 free throws. But after we exercised we drank either Powerade or Gatorade. We would then collect data, analyze it, and ultimately find out which drink is more effective. When I finished working out on Day 1, I drank Gatorade. I made 8/10. On Day 2, I drank Powerade after exercising and shot 7/10. And since the results were very similar I decided I would exercise and shoot 10 more on Day 3. But instead of drinking a sports drink I just drank water. I made 7/10. This data was very interesting. It shows Gatorade improved performance more, but nothing really stood out. So unless you plan on running a marathon or other strenuous athletic tasks, it will not really matter if you drink Powerade or Gatorade. Have you ever wondered why sports teams provide sports drinks during games rather than water? During my research I learned that the body loses electrolytes, sodium, carbohydrates and water during physical exercise (Sports Drinks and Athletic Performance). As a soccer player who runs a great deal during a game, I wanted to know what drink would keep me hydrated and give me energy to perform better. In order to answer this question, I needed to research these subtopics: hydration, what are sports drinks, electrolytes, and the ingredients of Gatorade and water. In addition I had to also research when it is best to drink sports drinks and water. Based on my research I hypothesized that if I test two different drinks and their ability to increase athletic performance, then I think Gatorade will help performance the best because Gatorade has the needed nutrients that water does not have.

To be successful in college wrestling on must cut weight efficiently, lift weights, and warm up effectively before every match.Among college wrestlers, cutting weight is a big part of their lives. College wrestlers often believe that cutting weight will improve their chances of winning. They do this be dehydrating themselves before weigh ins, then shortly after weigh ins replenishing their fluids as fast as possible. For this technique to be effective the athletes must do it right. If not done right, the wrestler will only weaken or fatigue themselves before the competition. As the college wrestler rushes to replenish his water, electrolytes, and glycogen after weigh ins, they think by competition they will be hydrated and that their muscles will be fueled again, but it does not work that way. Replenishing body fluids takes 24-48 hours, and muscle glycogen replenishment can can up to 72 hours. Not only does cutting weight have short term effects, but has long term effects as well. This includes organ damage, eating disorders, and unhealthy eating habits.
