1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction to Fast Food Industry
Fast food refers to food that can be prepared and served in the shortest possible time. The demand, trend, variety and taste of fast food differs from region to region. Its roots come from America where people eat out often. Also, the UK play a major role in the development of local fast foods. Coastal areas particularly served oysters and local seafood directly on the quay, and trawler fishing soon led to the first fish and chips shop in 1860. The concept of fast food is generally associated with urban development. Bull whip effect is the main reason for higher costs and problems in supply chains. The challenge is to utilize BTS model, solve the fluctuation problems and have zero margin of error.

3. SUPPLY CHAIN STRATEGY OF MCDONALDS

In India every year about Rs. 50,000 crore worth of food produce is wasted. This is mainly because of the non-availability of proper infrastructure for storage and transportation of food products. McDonald's is committed to providing quality products and also supporting other Indian businesses. For this purpose McDonalds spent a few years setting up a unique Supply Chain, even before it started first restaurant in India. The McDonald’s supply chain is very critical and multi-layered. There are two categories in food ingredients supply, Tier-I and Tier-II suppliers.

In Tier-I it has 14 core suppliers-provide processed products e.g. Vegetable and chicken patties comes from Vista Processed foods Pvt Ltd. , French fries, potato wedges and hash browns by McCain Foods India Pvt. Ltd. ect. In Tier-2 suppliers there are suppliers who grow and process and provide lettuce and potato, poultry items and coating systems that are used for coating the chicken and vegetable
