Sustainability is an issue that everyone should be concerned about. If the planet Earth is going to exist, as we know it, everyone should wake up and do their part to help achieve a greater level of sustainability. In my English 101 class we learned about the issue of sustainability. Many different topics were discussed and researched throughout the course of the semester. Overall, I think that the sustainability project has been a learning and enlightening experience for everyone in this class. Many more things can be done next semester, since the groundwork has been laid to continue this project for time to come. One of my personal goals for the project was to learn as much as I could about the sustainability issue facing us. I did this by participating in all of the projects that were done throughout the semester. The main project that occurred during the semester was the personal sustainability goals that we each set for ourselves. While doing the actions that we pledged to do, we learned different things about sustainability that we never knew before. One of the things that I learned was that, at Clemson, it is hard for students who want to recycle to be able to recycle. There are not the necessary facilities nearby our student housing to place our recyclables. I also learned that some actions that should be done to be sustainable are hard to do in the society that we live in. One of these activities that we do is the needless driving that Americans do in general. Since we live in a moving society, it is sometimes hard to do. An easy thing that everyone can do is to recycle some of his or her wastes. This can be done for most people at little or no extra effort than just throwing your trash away. Some of the planning that I did helped the students in other classes and even my own. During one part of the semester, we researched different ideas for the horticulture class students to implement in the schoolyard project that they were involved with. Others used my ideas and research in my class on their personal sustainability papers, university sustainability papers, and even their own personal goals to being sustainable.
I had learned lots of new things this year and especially this semester in U.S. History Since 1877. This history course required all students to complete twenty hours of service learning or to write a term paper. After considering the two options, I decided to give the service learning a chance because I thought it would be an interesting experience. There were a variety of projects to choose from, but I felt that the Sustainability Project was the right fit for me.
The following case study critiques Upton’s vision to establish a sustainable community through implementing comprehensive sustainable strategy. The urban periphery development is thought to demonstrate superior execution of sustainable principles in development (Jackson 2007). As a parallel, the report focuses on the development of Upton’s design code and demonstrates how large -scale mix-use developments can incorporate sustainable practice and principles of urban growth.
At my school, I am an active member of a program called S.E.E.D., which stands for Students Ending Environmental Destruction. As a group, spread awareness about recycling, water conservation and remediation, climate change, and other environmental problems the world faces today. We make sure that every classroom has a recycling bin and informative posters above them. We have hosted movie nights where we provide healthy, GMO-free refreshments and show an educational film that relates to a current issues to spread awareness. We have also convinced our school to install stations that are specifically meant to refill water bottles as it encourages students to stop buying plastic bottles and wasting plastic. Taking care of the environment and educating our youth, the congressmen, women, and voters of tomorrow who will be the deciding factors of the earth’s health, and consequently the people’s health, is crucial to me.
Hemodialysis (blood dialysis) is the most general method for treating end stage kidney failures. Hemodialysis removes waste products, toxins and excess of fluid from the blood and has roles like kidney roles in body. [11] The numbers of people who receive Hemodialysis treatment are increasing yearly about 15% in Iran. [12] The quality of life for people who received Hemodialysis is lower than others. These patients generally must be treated 3 times a week and it makes a lot of limitations for them.[13] Most of kidney patients can be treated successfully with both methods of Hemodialysis and transplantation. Kidney transplantation is a c...
...some of the concepts in Machiavelli’s The Prince outdated. The advice the book offers, though it is hardly any more useful to us today than in the past, cannot be denied of Machiavelli’s rules that do work. However, we need to realize since when has there been a mystery about winning a fight by being the one to throw the first punch or fighting dirty, it is the problem of playing within the rules that makes winning difficult. Further, we can see that once it had all been said and done, there has been a huge transitional change in politics, economics and peace among countries. Machiavelli wrote this book during the renaissance times, although The Prince offers meaningful insight in to specific situations as well as a look into concepts of war from a different perspective, a modern scholar cannot use it to show examples that are bestowed upon us in the 21st century.
The old Native American proverb that states, “We do not inherit the land from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children” really makes me think about my lifestyle and how it is benefiting the Earth. Being sustainable not only means to take care of the planet for my generation but also for future generations. It is my job to care for the planet as best as I can and to help pass on these good habits to my children. The best ways that I can help my environment are composting uneaten food and old vegetables, donating or reusing old clothes, and recycling plastic and paper products.
Did you know there was a whole war inside the Cold War? Where around two million civilians died. The Cold War was a time when the soviets were trying to spread communism. The U.S did not want communism to spread, so it became a race, or competition to gain power. Of course if you guys are having competition, you're going to be trash talking or in this case threatening. Now that I have gave your the background, time to go into the Korean War. A War that was inside the Cold War, I am going to tell you about how it started, the events, and the ending.
The Korean War started when two opposing political parties formed the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) that was supported by the Soviets, and the pro-Western Republic of Korea (South Korea). The U.S. got involved in the Korean War because of the spread of communism. So in an attempt to stop communism the U.S. supported the republic of Korea. The other reason to why the U.S. got involved in the war because China started invading Taiwan and the U.S. took responsibility in protecting Taiwan.
Sustainability requires the interplay of other disciplines from the fields of science, economy, and social studies. The disciplines must function all together at a go, not in isolation. Once that is archived, sustainable development is also due to be archived. Philosophy is needed to be in practice in order to have an efficient way to approach sustainability. Mostly environmental sustainability is the one that is seen to be important, which includes the following aspects; water, energy, oil and other resources which are finite. The balance between the social, economic and environmental sectors yields sustainable development (Giddings et al., 2002). Sustainable development is classically defined as meeting the needs of the present generation without, in any way compromising the needs of future generations (IISD., 2003). Pragmatism requires us to predict, take actions and to be innovative in problem solving which is done through scientific research, this philosophy teaches us to be practical (Christopher., 2013).
...ft of the preeminently "excellent" citizen to protect the state's constitution by making him the ruler of the state. Aristotle further justifies his position by stating that a citizen should not be made the ruler of a state because of his wealth or his ancestry. Unless by some chance wealth or ancestry affects the ability of a citizen to work towards the interests of the constitution. Of course the wealthy citizens and those citizens of glamorous ancestry should not be denied the chance to rule the state, for the ruler should be chosen for his "excellence" alone.
Aristotle believes the only way to reach a state of happiness is through virtue. The virtue that is to be practiced is meant to guide our behaviors in society and to learn the meaning of moderation. Aristotle deems human happiness as more then attaining the pleasures of life but satisfying the human potentialities. Reaching such abilities could be seen by making logical choices and being able to choose the needs in life rather then the wants. At this point it shows that Aristotle contends that a society that includes citizens that he believes are of human excellence will reflect the same values upon it’s state.
Aristotle’s thoughts on ethics conclude that all humans must have a purpose in life in order to be happy. I believe that some of the basics of his ideas still hold true today. This essay points out some of those ideas.
I think the main thing that goes into this is my car. I drive a 2002 Chevy Suburban that gets about 14 miles per gallon in the city and 16 on the freeway. With Christmas coming up, I am hoping my mom will let me take her Ford Taurus back to Tucson with me because it gets over 20 miles to the gallon. Another problem is that I drive back and fourth going home to Lake Havasu, Arizona almost every other weekend. This is a four-hour drive one-way. The amount of gas I use is way too much. Switching cars with my mom will lower my gas by almost 50%. Another category I can work on is food. Every Wednesday from 10 AM to 2 PM, there is a farmer’s market on the University’s mall. Supporting local food sources is a good way to help the environment and reduce the gas I spend driving to the store once a week. This will also help me choose foods with less packaging in order to reduce
Thus, it is essential for graduates to understand and to have the capability to cope with various environmental challenges that we are facing today. For university students, most of their knowledge about sustainability is obtained from lectures. Whereas, Winter and Cotton (2012) illustrate that learning solely about sustainability is insufficient and that sustainability literacy must take into consideration students’ attitudes and dispositions in order to develop their strategies for reasoned decision-making. In addition, Winter and Cotton (2012) point out that the limitations posed by academic attitudes and disciplinary silos hinder the embedding of sustainability literacy in the formal curriculum. Therefore, if universities want to cultivate more students with sustainability literacy, then they need to focus on constructing more sustainable
Description: Students will learn the importance to take care of the environment. They will gain knowledge on recycle, reuse, and reduce. They will also learn to be creative and to persuade other people around school and outside school for protecting the environment. Moreover, students will increase their vocabulary and critical thinking.
