Survival Adaptations: The survival adaptions of the glass frog is very interesting. As you know the glass frog is see through that really helps the frog for survival because when you are flying around and you see the frog you will not see it because the frog melts into the leaf. The color of the frog is very interesting it self if you are in one part of Costa Rica the frog will be dark green but in a different part it might be light
green.
In the lab the isopods were observed in a way to where behavior and structures could be properly recorded. The isopods were revealed to two dissimilar scenarios, normal temperature water vs. warm temperature water, to calculate which environment was most preferred. In each distinct scenario ten isopods were placed ten a choice chamber, one side being normal temperature (26.7celsius) and the other being warm temperature (43.3 celsius) , and observed for a total of ten minutes with thirty second intervals which was when we recorded our observations. After observations, it was seen that normal conditions was the most preferred environment by the isopods. In the scenario the Isopods exhibited taxis behavior, which is behavior caused by factors such as light, temperature, water and such. Nothing physical, but rather environmental.
Jennifer Price, in her essay "The Plastic Pink Flamingo: A Natural History," highlights the American culture's ridiculous obsession with displaying wealth through her use of diction, tone, and simile/metaphor. She depicts American culture as nonsensical, and thus ridiculous, because of its disposal of normal standards or logic in order to fulfill its materialistic desires which is shown through the popularity of the pink plastic flamingo in the 1950s.
What is the most important element of a good story? Although interesting characters, engaging plot development and didactic story lines certainly embellish the story, one could argue that the setting is the most crucial. Not only does the setting provide a baseline of necessary background information, it can also be used to enhance the story, just like the other elements listed. Edgar Allan Poe certainly takes advantage of this in “Hop Frog”, “The Cask of Amontillado”, and the “Masque of the Red Death”. In each of these stories, gruesome horrors occur, and because of the ingenious way Poe uses and manipulates the setting to his advantage, these stories’ horrors are amplified. In “Hop Frog” and “The Cask of Amontillado”, the main characters
An adaptation is the characteristic of an organism that makes it likely to survive. There are three types of adaptations: structural, physiological, and behavioural. Structural adaptations are physical features, physiological adaptations are related to the internal body functions, while behavioural adaptations refer to how organisms respond to stimuli (Beavis 2014). This paper will discuss some adaptations that help koalas and eucalyptus trees survive in their environments.
Ko-kee, ko-kee... are the mating calls of invasive Coqui frogs who have invaded a majority of the Big Island. These Coqui frogs, also known as Eleutherodactylus coqui are native in Puerto Rico and these small frogs are considered their national animal (Singer et al). Coqui frogs were accidentally introduced to Hawaii during a shipment of plants from Puerto Rico to Hawaii in the late 1980's. Coqui frogs are about 2 inches in length and are usually light brown or gray with a stripe down their back. Over the past two decades E. coqui have spread to the four main Hawaiian Islands and other places such as the Caribbean, Florida, and Louisiana (Singer et al). As of today, the Coquis intensive mating calls can be heard throughout every part of the Big Island during the night. While the Puerto Ricans love the sound of the Coquis, many locals in Hawaii dislike them due to the environmental and economic damages they are creating. Coqui frogs are detriment to Hawaii because they are a serious threat to the native insect population, compete for food with Hawaii's native bird population, and cost residents and businesses millions of dollars each year (McAvoy).
The frog’s back is usually textured with coarse tubercles. Its fingers are thinly webbed while the hind foot is more developed. Large disks exist on the fingers and toes to assist with climbing and sticking to objects (Dickerson, 1969). The male and female Grey Tree Frogs are very similar. They are distinguished by the male having a dark underside of his throat. Also the females ears are smaller then the males (Dickerson, 1969).
Michael DuBois Mrs. Ermis English 1302.NO2 10 April, 2016 Revenge at its Finest Like most of Edgar Allan Poe’s work the concept behind both of these stories is the themes of death and revenge. In both “The Cask of Amontillado” and “Hop Frog”, Poe makes it a point to reveal the struggles of both characters and that they seek revenge for what has happened in their past. In “Hop Frog” he decides he has had enough when the king slaps his friend Trippetta for sticking up for him. Along with all the vicious jokes and torture that he puts on both Hop Frog and Trippetta, the physical abuse was just the thing that puts Hop Frog over his limit. In the short story “The Cask of Amontillado”, Montresor seeks revenge on Fortunato for the rude embarrassing
Graphic novels are something that requires a lot of deliberate thought and dedication to create a novel that affects the reader in the way authors want them to. Everything within a graphic novel is conscious decision to enable the tones, story, characters, and messages to get through as best as they can. Due to this it is difficult to create an adaption based on someone else’s work, as you want to portray their messages and tones accurately, but also how the creator interoperates the original authors work. This is a problem I had in the creation of my mini graphic adaption of The Flying Troutmans by Miriam Toews. The Flying Troutmans is about a family going on a trip in America in search of the father of the kids Hattie is in charge of after

Hummingbirds have evolved certain behavioural and physical traits which allows for them to be more energetically efficient, such as specialized storage and digestion adaptations, feeding and flying adaptations and breathing adaptation. Hummingbirds are extremely small and their muscles for flight are highly oxygen-dependent and require large amounts of energy. Hummingbirds are one of the smallest endotherms and any energetic output can be metabolically stressful. The hummingbirds’ small body size means that they have very little room for energy storage and therefore often endure energetic and metabolic stresses. They are the one of the oldest aves, dating back to some 33 million years ago and have evolved certain energy efficient adaptations that have allowed for them to live so long. These adaptations allow Hummingbirds to efficiently meet their energetic needs which in turn, allows for them to not only survive but also continue to evolve and expand their specific niches.
Thanks to evolution, Penguins have evolved into a group of aquatic, fightless birds, that are highly adapted to life in the ocean. This not only makes them one of the divergent and strange species of birds, but also has allowed them to become such a sucessful species. Penguins are mostly located in the Southern hemisphere ranging anywhere from the Galapogos to the Antartic. Throughout their lives, Penguins spend around half their time in the ocean doing things such as catching food and the other half on land raising their young. Their distinct tuxedo-like apperience called countershading camoflages their bodies, protecting them from predators above and below. Through out the “stepping stones”, the penguins grew to have a dense bone containing
The Galapagos Islands, located about 600 miles west of continental Ecuador, contain a rich history of settlement and exploration and represent a living example of evolution that is still relevant today. For centuries, this chain of volcanic islands has been used uniquely by various cultures based off distinct needs. What has remained the same however is the fact that island isolation has forced many animal and plant species to adapt differently from one another based off their island’s environmental conditions, creating a living model of microevolution over time. Today, these models tend to be the primary resources used by biology professors when teaching their students evolutionary topics.
Smiley would most likely be the character to be targeted due to all the his perseverance in training a frog, Dan’l, whom he bets on. Smiley catched a frog one day and “never done nothing for three months but set in his back yard and learn that frog to jump.” This proves that the three long months Smiley spent in training a frog portrays how determined and committed he is. Not to mention, the moment in which he stumbled upon a stranger; Smiley told the stranger that he bets that his frog could jump higher than any frog in Calaveras County. However, the stranger does not have a frog, so Smiley goes and catches one for him. Unfortunately, as Smiley went to go catch him a frog, “[the stranger] set there a good while thinking and thinking to himself,
"Hop Frog" is a story of irony, violence, revenge, and how all of those things are inseparable. The story suggests that violence of some kind is always the beginning of revenge. Whether that violence is emotional, physical, or mental violence, it always results in revenge. There are examples of violence throughout the story, such as the physical violence done to Trippetta and Hop-Frog when they're stolen from their homeland, taken by force from their friends and family and shipped off to the king as a gift. An example of physical, emotional, and mental violence in the story would be that of the king shoving Trippetta and then proceeding to throw a glass of wine on her, embarrassing her and dehumanizing her. Or how the king forced Hop-Frog to drink wine, disregarding his dislike for wine and his obvious distress. These may not seem like your typical examples of violence, but violence isn't inherently bloody or even physical. An act of violence can be
