Smiley would most likely be the character to be targeted due to all the his perseverance in training a frog, Dan’l, whom he bets on. Smiley catched a frog one day and “never done nothing for three months but set in his back yard and learn that frog to jump.” This proves that the three long months Smiley spent in training a frog portrays how determined and committed he is. Not to mention, the moment in which he stumbled upon a stranger; Smiley told the stranger that he bets that his frog could jump higher than any frog in Calaveras County. However, the stranger does not have a frog, so Smiley goes and catches one for him. Unfortunately, as Smiley went to go catch him a frog, “[the stranger] set there a good while thinking and thinking to himself,

A Long Walk to Water, is a realistic fiction book about perseverance, written by Linda Sue Park. The main characters are Nya and Salva. Both characters try to survive, while Nya is collecting water, and Salva has to walk to safety because his village has been attacked. Nya is Nuer (a tribe) and Salva is Dinka (another tribe). The Dinka and the Nuer have been enemies for hundreds of years. Both characters exemplify the theme of perseverance as they stay calm and determined.
There are six main characters in this story: Mark, David, Susan, Jeff, Betsy, and Mr. Griffin. The most influential would be Mark. He is the one who comes up with the plan to kidnap Mr. Griffin. He is not a very good student and has a reputation of being a "bad boy." Next there is David. David is supposed to be one of the better kids in the story. He is a senior who is in the same class as Mark and the other characters. His role in the kidnapping is to get Susan to go along with the plan., and to help with the kidnapping itself. He seems to be a rather good kid in the beginning of the story but he progresses to be one of the bad ones. He has a very stressful home life with his mom and grandma. Then there is Susan. Susan is the good student and kid of the group. She is thought of as unpopular and a geek. She is very bright considering that she is a junior and is taking an English IV class. She is supposed to distract Mr. Griffin by having a meeting with him after school on the day of the event. She then gets pulled into the conflict even further when she wants to go to the police when Mr. Griffin dies. She almost gets
He is about six with no defined name that he has but he does seem like he would encounter danger faster than anyone else as most writer would take the character of this story to use.“That little ’un–” gasped Piggy– “him with the mark on his face, I don’t see him. Where is he now?”(pg.64) He disappears into the woods and all the others see the snakes explode from the tree so my best guess is that he went out to prove to the others that the snake thing is real and not a
"Piggy saw the smile and misinterpreted it as friendliness. There had grown up tacitly among the biguns the opinion that Piggy was an outsider, not only by accent, which did not matter, but by fat, and ass-mar, and specs, and a certain disinclination for manual labour." (Golding 68)
It is hard to find a perfect match for Piggy. He is full of sensible, bright ideas, but because he is fat, a nerd and wears glasses, no one will listen to him except for Ralph. He was also kind of irritating. For example, he followed the rules too much. If something wasn’t done the way he knew was right, he would get all irate. Then, of course, when it went wrong, Piggy had no hesitation in telling people that he could’ve done it better.
For example Ralph represents the politicians and his conch shell is representing the law in society he also stands for civilazation. Jack might be representing the military leader because he all the time speaks about hunting, protection and way too much aggressive for his age, he also responsibile for food. W. Golding also gives us a character called Piggy with specs which might be representetive for scientists, scholars because the way he speaks is quite different from any other character, he has critical tone, he’s specs helps the boys to start a fire and he is the one of few characters that you can pity on because he died for nonsense reason. The boys don’t listen Piggy’s ideas even though his ideas are
Everyone has heard about how to train your dog but how about training your dragon? I’m going to show you the multiple, yet easy steps in how to train your dragon. In this first example you are going to learn how to train your dragon to use the dog door. You must first start off with observational learning. Observational learning occurs when an observers behavior changes after viewing the behavior of a model. You first need to get your dragons attention and make sure he’s only focusing on you. Once you have gained his attention walk up to the dog door and simply crawl through it. Make sure your dragon watches you do this multiple times. Not only does your dragon need to gain attention of what you 're doing, he also needs to have retention in
The next character that intrigued me was Brian, the quote-on-quote "nerd." A nerd is a person that is academically inclined and is known for striving to get good grades and being socially inept. His confession of why he was in Saturday detention seemed a lot more serious then it actually turned out to be. He was in Saturday detention because he had a gun in his locker. He bought the gun to kill because he had intent on killing himself.
Piggy is the smart and logical one, though not quite as perceptive and biblical as Simon is. "The fat boy hung steadily at his shoulder", before Piggy's name is learnt, he is referred to as being 'the fat boy', suggesting he is fat. The name Piggy connects him to the
person, although Pip is too afraid to look down on him due to this at
The Butterfly Diving Bell sits on my bedside table . It was a busy day when I finished and I'm struggling with how to express my appreciation for the best of the author , Jean - Dominique Bauby . As a beautiful French dessert , each crafted wonderful phrases should be savored. Posted by Bauby bears a sense of humor combined with depression that required for reading and slow digestion . He must have been a Morrissey fan .
Throughout the film Wag The Dog, Bitzer’s three concepts of exigence, audience, and constraints are all unmistakably used. The first concept of the three, exigence means imperfection marked by urgency. The first scene that is an example of exigence in the film would be the sex scandal that went on between the president and a girl in her teens, only 2 weeks before the Presidential Election. This is a wonderful example of exigence because the imperfection is that the president is being blamed for participating in sexual activity with an underage girl and the urgency is that this happened only 11 days before he is up for his reelection term. The political team including a famous producer in Hollywood named Stanley, and a spin-doctor named Conrad worked together and made the imperfection disappear. Conrad distracted the voting public from the sex scandal by hiring the famous producer from to put together a fake war with Albania. Constructing the fake war was intended to distract the public but ended up leading to even more problems and another scene involving exigence in the film. The scene was when the president decided to create an imitation war scene for the media. The issue arose when the actress that was hired to participate in the scene decided to put it down as an acting job on her resume. This was an issue because by putting the acting job on her resume, it would become public knowledge that this was a fake war scene and it would ruin the whole project. This would definitely put the president in a bad light and in turn make him be portrayed in an even worse way than he was to begin with.
In the book, A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park, Salva shows perseverance is key when facing life’s challenges.
Do animals feel joy, love, fear, anguish or despair? What ere emotions, and perhaps more importantly, how do scientists prove animals are capable of emotion? Sea lion mothers have often been seen wailing painfully and squealing eerily as they watch their babies being eaten by killer whales. Buffaloes have also been observed sliding playfully across ice, excitedly screaming “Gwaaa.” Emotions are defined broadly as psychological phenomena that help in behavioral management and control. This is a challenging question to researchers who are trying to determine the answer to this question. Through current research by close observation combined with neurobiological research, evidence that animals exhibit fear, joy happiness, shame, embarrassment, resentment, jealousy, rage, anger, love, pleasure, compassion, respect, relief, disgust, sadness, despair, and grief is likely. Charles Darwin said, “The lower animals, like man, manifestly feel pleasure and pain, happiness, and misery.” I agree with Darwin. I believe animals do exhibit emotions, and denying that animals have emotions because the subject cannot be studied directly is not a reasonable explanation.
