As a medical / surgical RN, I provided care for the elderly, the infirm, the mentally challenged, the young, and the psychologically disturbed. The wide variety of patients exposed me to the effects of life style choices, health care choices, and the resulting impacts to the patient as well as to the family of the patient. This experience has fully matured my view of the awesome responsibility that we, as health care professionals, have been charged with, and it has furthered my desire to obtain the skills necessary to provide more advanced care for my patients. In addition to exposure, maturity and experience, my career as a medical / surgical RN has also sharpened my critical thinking abilities and provided insight on observing signs and symptoms that a patient may be unware of. Furthermore, as a charge nurse I learned the importance of collaborating with other health care professionals in order to provide the highest level of care available. In summary, my career as an RN has provided valuable experience, maturity, exposure to impact and outcome, enhanced my critical thinking abilities, and improved my collaboration

In my upcoming years at Michigan State University I have intentions on applying to the Nursing school, completing nursing school and in the end continuing my academic career by becoming a CRNA- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. The reasons I crave to pursue this career are ample: opportunities to aid others on a daily basis, work on a team with other medical professionals and be able to alter people's lives in a positive way consistently.
My calling in life has always been clear to me, in my heart I have always known that I wanted to become a part of the medical field. Ever since I was a little girl I have admired the men and women who work in this field. Their drive and compassion to help those in need inspire me to become a future Registered Nurse. One of the many individuals within this field who has inspired me is Alfred Lopez a Registered Nurse at the California Institution for Women. He is 45 years old and has received his Bachelor 's degree in nursing from UCLA. As a nurse he provides exemplary care without judgement or bias towards those who are convicted as felons and criminals. He is a respectable and good natured man that lends an unbiased helping hand to all, despite what they have done in this life. This is why I strive to one day join the field of nursing because in this field every patient is treated equally among one another.
It all began when I started volunteering in Los Angeles, with my mother at Asian Pacific Health Care Clinic. Asian Pacific Health Care Clinic is a clinic for low-income families who were in need of vaccinations and other health care services. One day my mom received a phone call from the clinic and asked me to go volunteer with her. Since that day, I would have never guessed that it will impact my decision in pursuing my career as a nurse. I was assigned to help patients fill out vaccination forms, translate verbally, and assist the nurses who were in need of my help. I noticed the joy on each patient’s face once they were finished their vaccinations, and it made me happy to know I put a smile on people 's face after their vaccinations. Since that day, I have grown a passion for volunteering and helping others. Another factor that drew me to the nursing profession, was when I volunteered at a
My manager shift was spent observing Kaley McClure, the charge nurse on MICU at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Hospital. I observed her leadership style and how she handled the tasks of a charge nurse, helping the nurses on the unit, and making it a team effort. I observed how she communicated with the staff on the unit, doctors, and family members visiting their family members. Kaley implemented the core functions of management while leading the unit which are planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling.
“Every man is born as many men, and dies as a single one.” This quote by German philosopher Martin Heidegger fits well with my decision to aspire to become a physician assistant. While I always wanted to help others, especially the disadvantaged of our society, I did not initially realize what outlet this longing would have. Ultimately, however, I found that the PA profession was the best avenue where I could unite this concern for others with my intellectual strengths and abilities.
When I was a senior in high school, applying for colleges was something I was trying to put off. I had such a wide range of interests that I had no inclination what career path would be the right fit for me. I envied my classmates who could concisely answer the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” By April of my senior year, I found myself accepted to 10 different Universities in many different majors and still no clear direction. It wasn’t until meeting with faculty from different nursing schools that I became very interested in the thought of becoming a registered nurse. Speaking with anyone associated with the nursing programs, I noticed a strong sense of pride and enthusiasm that was unique to the field.
The article discussed the characteristics of a leader: communication, motivation, openness, vision, passion, and risk taking (2007). The questions above are meant to encompass these characteristics, particularly communication, motivation, and vision. The Hoffart (2017) reading also helped form the questions from the perspective of balancing being a leader and a follower. In terms of the military, one will always be a leader, but will also always have a direct superior. With this said, the content over attributes of nursing, focusing on followers and decision making, were a direct influence on the questions to Lt. Crowder about being a leader in the military, as well as obstacles one may encounter in the this field

After reading both The Valliant Little Tailor and Heracles, there were pretty clear similarities, as well as differences. Both of these stories, in my opinion, could be classified as the “trial” pair, as both stories have a series of trials that the protagonist is expected to complete in order to gain something of value. While the trials are approached differently from each character, they are eventually completed, and the reward is obtained.
