Supervisor Reflection

This is what I believe about supervision. It is an ongoing process that fully impacts the well-being of the student, teacher, staff and community. I believe the ultimate purpose of being an effective instructional supervisor is to empower the teacher, so in turn they effectively empower the student and facilitate learning. In order to do this a teacher should feel free to discuss their instruction with the supervisor and together find ways for improvement if necessary. Recommendations could involve activities such as, watching another teacher’s lesson, professional development, videotaping a lesson or assigning a seasoned mentor to assist.

Both parties must periodically evaluate learning/outcomes each other to be sure no gaps in instruction occur. Each day a student sits in class is another opportunity to improve on the day before and reinforce what was learned.
In addition, the goals are based on beliefs concerning the purpose of education, what should be taught, the nature of learner, and the learning process p.75 By establishing a successful and thriving collegial instructional leadership model, supervision focuses on teacher growth rather than teacher compliance. I endorse the belief that a collegial relationship between teachers, staff and supervisors are essential for instruction and much more effective than the traditional hierarchal relationship. It also takes the collegial efforts of the entire school and community to truly make an effective instructional learning environment. Which makes me think of the traditional African proverb of, “It takes a village to raise a child” So
