High school students should not have their summer break shortened because it gives them more time to recover from a long academic year. During the school year, students are expected to complete assignments and study for tests while participating in extracurricular activities and maintaining part-time jobs. Very little time is left for self-reflection and leisure. As a result, it is common for high school students to feel worn down by a rigorous schedule. Having time for a complete break gives students an opportunity for rest that they do not have during the school year. In an article written by Joe Matthews titled “Summer Break Is Important to Students and Families” Matthews presents the benefits of summer break. Matthews writes, “The history's …show more content…
Trying to remember the concepts from the prior class proved to be more difficult than I had originally thought. Nevertheless, students need time to recover mentally from a full school year. In an article titled “Sources of stress for students in high school college preparatory and general education programs: group differences and associations with adjustment” Shannon M. Suldo evaluates common stress inhibitors for students. According to Suldo, “During the adolescent period children may be particularly vulnerable to stress, especially when exacerbated by the use of ineffective coping strategies, which may ultimately result in mental health problems” (1). The essence of Suldo’s argument is that teenagers are very sensitive to stressful situations. When students deal with stress for several months during the school year, they can begin to develop issues with mental health. Therefore, a summer break is crucial for freeing adolescents’ minds from the prison of stress. To conclude, by shortening summer break, high school students will be exposed to more stress, thereby increasing their chances for mental health problems. Summer break gives students the opportunity for much needed
Another significant reason is summer vacation needs to be longer. The primary reason for this is children need time to wind down and relax before they have to go back to school. For instance, during the summer children relax and prepare for school, if they...
School is usually a huge part of every child’s daily agenda. Teenagers in high school basically dedicate their entire day to school and homework. Students in grade 8 are similarly going through the same process as high school students. As students work 2 months after the Winter Break, some of them tend to start reducing their quality in their work. When we’re tired of doing school work for two straight months, why should we only receive a short March Break? Can’t the March Break just be one week longer, the same as the Winter Break? Students shouldn’t be limited to the amount of activities they can do during the March Break. Since the March Break is the last Break of the year, students clearly deserve two weeks of March Break rather than one. Furthermore, students should have the need to relax before the next three more months of school.
After high school, there are many different opportunities that open up for everyone. Some people have the chance to go to a prestigious college right after they are done with their high school career. Others might just want a break from school and possibly take a year off. There are no right or wrong answers to what someone does after they finish high school. It all depends on the person's situation or what they feel is best for them. However, there may be some more benefits to taking a year off than going straight to college.
For years, parents and educators have debated the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional school calendar, which has long summer vacations for all students. The longer you are away from school, the more you lose what you learned in the previous year. Studies have shown that children who know English as a second language benefit the most from year-round education because during the long summer break, they may not hear English for several months. Long summer breaks is a problem for traditional schools and the solution is to substitute traditional schools for year-round schools.
Summer is a time where people have gatherings, goof around, take vacations and spend time with their family. Many students are used to having two week winter break, one week spring break, and three months of summer break. Changing this traditional format could lead to negative effects for many students, educators, and families. A balanced school year would not have enough benefits to change schedule.
“Man masters nature not by force but by understanding. This is why science has succeeded where magic failed: because it has looked for no spell to cast over nature”. From the beginning of time man and nature has been in conflict with one another because, as a whole, there is no cooperating. Each one tirelessly wants its way. The Man is fighting for dominance and nature w never yielding its authority. In American Literature, many authors illustrate this theme in their writing. Specifically the writers Jack London in The Law Of Life, Stephen Crane The Open Boat and Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Fin. Each explores the relationship between humans and nature but with slightly different methods. Mark Twain uses nature in a realistic way, Jack London in a naturalistic way and Stephen Crane constitutes a combination of both.
Do you ever get stressed over work from school or your job? Well, that is why breaks and vacations are so important. Stress is pressure or tension applied to a material object. When people have stress or are stressed, they do not need to worry about it, stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way. Stress is your body’s way of protecting you. When working properly, it helps you stay focussed on what you're doing, keeps your energy flowing, and helps you be more aware of what is going on. Being stressed isn’t always a long lasting situation, it can easily be demolished by taking frequent breaks in between activities, events, assignments, and other stressful moments. Another way to relieve stress, is to have one or two days in the week that are dedicated to your relaxation. Getting stressed from school is extremely common. Children especially get stressed because their system can not handle too many things at once because they are still developing humans. Your health will deteriorate over time if we don't take a break from work, research concludes. Many people need the time and space away from what they experience every day in order to recognize harmful or self-destructive patterns in their life. Many parents, teachers, and adults complain that summer vacation for schools is such an amazing idea because, there is much knowledge loss throughout the break, however scientists have proven that to live a happy, satisfying, and successful life, everyone needs to give their mind a break from stress at school and work thereby proving that summer break is necessary.
Every day, more and more attempts of banning books and taking away the rights of our First Amendment get violated. The challenging of a book is the attempt to remove or restrict materials, and the banning is the removal of these materials. I believe that books should not be banned for these reasons.
Summer should be a time to relax after hard work. "Students should deserve a break after their hard work...
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
Summer is known as the time where one can relax and escape from the hard work they have accomplished from the school year that has just past them. However, it is now being debated whether a “year-round” model would be a more appropriate choice for schooling. The year-round model allows students to have breaks more often, just for a shorter period of time; this meaning that the two-month long summer break would shorten and spread throughout the course of the year. Several just do not see the positive impact this change could have on them. The year-round model should be put into effect as it increases the student’s academic knowledge, it allows for students/ teachers to “recharge” and finally it makes transitions through school easier.
Also, summer break motivates students and gives them something to look forward to at the end of the year. For instance, students would continue school with only a four week break instead of a 10, 11, or 12 week break. This would not be enough time for students to relax after a year of working hard. Even if they did, after only four weeks, they would need to start another year all over again, causing more stress and even depression. Without summer break, students couldn’t get the rest they needed.
Also, a longer break would let them spend time with family members. Students would like a longer summer break to spend time with family members. Students could stay with other family members and cook out with them, play games with their family members, and talk with their family members as well.
In high school, students will experience a wide range of emotions, feelings, and emotional, physical and mental strains. The major strain that almost every student will face is stress. As Pope (2010) says, “More than 70 percent of the high school students reported that they felt often or always stressed by their schoolwork, and many admitted to taking illegal stimulants to stay awake to study and complete the lengthy homework assignments each night (p.5).” Whether the students are stressing over a test, their grade point average, their college acceptance, or even their upcoming sporting event, high school students experience stress on a daily basis. These high levels of stress at such a young age are a chronic health risk. Schools should
