School is usually a huge part of every child’s daily agenda. Teenagers in high school basically dedicate their entire day to school and homework. Students in grade 8 are similarly going through the same process as high school students. As students work 2 months after the Winter Break, some of them tend to start reducing their quality in their work. When we’re tired of doing school work for two straight months, why should we only receive a short March Break? Can’t the March Break just be one week longer, the same as the Winter Break? Students shouldn’t be limited to the amount of activities they can do during the March Break. Since the March Break is the last Break of the year, students clearly deserve two weeks of March Break rather than one. Furthermore, students should have the need to relax before the next three more months of school. Most of my classmates and I have anticipated of the March Break being two weeks, like the Winter Break. A lot of students were complaining about the short March Break, Shlok and Kabishan were some of these students. Students were expecting the March Break to have the same time durations as the Winter Break, not just because they both are called breaks, it’s because students need this time to relax. The classmates that I’ve encountered have hoped the March Break to be two weeks. This is mostly because of the influence that the Winter Break has given the students. After having the relaxing Winter Break, students don’t even consider the March Break as break. But before all that why do we only get a week of March Break, we’re tired of school and we want to really relax before we head for the difficult part of school. We should at least deserve two weeks of March Break just like the Winter Break, and the March Break is the last Break for the school year. The one week of March Break narrows us to limited activities, which is not enjoyable. The tiredness can cause lack of performance in school and the one week of March Break is not going to help, but two weeks of March Break can calm down the students and prepare them for three more months of school.
A student at Ste. Genevieve High School even expressed how she needs the summer break to unwind and not have to care about studying for a class when school would return to session. Another reason students may oppose this change is due to the fact High School students may hold summer jobs to earn some spending money. In certain instances, the year-round calendar may prevent students from holding these jobs or holding them for extended periods of time. One more reason students may disapprove of year-round education is because of extracurricular activities, and how they will be changed or shifted. New teachers can be affected in many ways. Unlike teachers who work in traditional school districts, they do not have the long summer to prepare and acquaint themselves for the forthcoming school year. In the United States, most schools still use a ten-month calendar that was developed when our country’s students needed school off to help with harvesting (Palmer). Trimble Local Schools Superintendent Kim Jones says, “year-round schooling is the notion of getting away from the old agrarian calendar...which was formed up around the planting season. Students were out of school from April until harvest to work in the fields,” (qtd. in Hapka). Under the agrarian system, most United States students are in school for nine to ten months, and get a two- to three- month summer vacation. However, the United States is no longer an agricultural-based society, and students have no need to take a three-month-long, unnecessary, not to mention disruptive break during the summer months; instead, the United States should switch the school systems to a year-round calendar.
This research indicates that those in support of this type of calendar see many benefits, but the most strongly supported evidence is the reduction of summer learning loss experienced by students, especially for English as a second language (ESL) and low income students. Today, due to progressive industrialization of farming, modernized farming equipment, and decrease in family farms, the need for children to be home during the summer to help run family farms is minute if not obsolete; because of this many schools across the United States have transitioned to year-round schooling (“Summer”). For years, parents and educators have debated the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional school calendar, which has long summer vacations for all students.The longer you are away from school, the more you lose what you learned in the previous year. Studies have shown that children who know English as a second language benefit the most from year-round education because during the long summer break, they may not hear English for several months. Long summer breaks is a problem for traditional schools and the solution is to substitute traditional schools for year-round schools.
Back in the early ages, the idea of year-round school would be thought as completely insane, because the farming families depended on their children to be home during harvest time. Now in modern times, the term year-round school is becoming more and more common in the United States of America. Slowly the schools are changing the way they teach, from giving the students a long three month break to a shorter one month break during the summer. The change of America’s high schools to the year-round schedule benefits both the schools and the students because they still get breaks throughout the school year, the children are less likely to forget information, the children would have more time with the teachers to learn, and the parents would not have to pay for childcare during the long summer break.

Year round schooling has been a decision argued with the government, teachers, principals and parents. Many kids and adults like to relax on their three month break. Many students are used to having two week winter break, one week spring break, and three months of summer break. Overall, one three month break would benefit than having three-week breaks broken up throughout the school year.
There are several plans that schools offer in order to distribute the vacation throughout the year in many smaller breaks then in one three month block. Examples of these plans would be 45-15,60-20, and 60-15. The 45-15 plan is the most widely used plan, it is the simplest plan to use at any level of education, and also can be used for a multi track school. With the 40-15 plan student's go to school for 45 days and then have a 15-day break. Next the 60-20 plan follows the same pattern as the 45-15, students go to school for 60 days and then have a break for 20. Most teachers like this plan because it allows them a little more time on a particular subject.
However, i disagree i think that summer break for students should not be longer. Cause if summer breaks are longer than the students can forget about the stuff that they learned in school before their summer break. So there for summer break should be shorter. Cause if they are shorter than students wouldn't forget about the stuff they have learned and when the students go back to school they will remember what they did before summer break.
