1. Mixed me! By Taye Diggs: Mike is a mixed kid with crazy zigzag hair and a cool style. Mike dad is dark skin and his mother is light skin. Mike said some times when they are together people stare at them. Some kid’s say his mom don’t match because of their skin color. Mike’s parents tell him that they mixed him perfectly. His school peers call him mixed- up Mike but he is mixed and proud.
MY OPINION
This book talk about the physical apperience of race. I like the fact that it was openly hounest about how society look at interracial couples. I also find it to be inerresting to introduce the fact that people are different to kids while they are young. This book gave the impression that mix children have wild sandy red color looking hair. When a child read this book it will teach them the difference but also open their mind to understand that everyone is different but they are still people. We are all unique in our own way.

All the colors of the earth by Sheila Hamanaka: This book teaches that children come in all the colors of the earth. This book celebrates diversity through the image of children. It compares different colors of the skin to the earth and the things that surround it. The book uses the phrase of comparing the skin color to tinkling pink of tiny seashells by the rumbling sea. I enjoyed that the book challenged some of the biggest problems in our legal system, or even society as a whole. There is still a lot of racism going on, and this book was not afraid to exploit that. I enjoy those kinds of readings. They are the things that will eventually spark a change and shed some light on the problems that are happening right now.
Over this entire novel, it is a good novel for children. It train children how to think logically, and notes people we should cherish our family, and people around us, very educate. Children can learn true is always been hide.
It deals with obstacles in life and the ways they are over come. Even if you are different, there are ways for everyone to fit in. The injustices in this book are well written to inform a large audience at many age levels. The book is also a great choice for those people who cheers for the underdogs. It served to illustrate how the simple things in life can mean everything.

I believe this book is of good use when teaching a unit centered on living in a community. This book will provide students with a structure that will help them discuss their own communities and how to treat others of different races. A way that these questions could lead into a literacy development activity is to have the students write about things that they are grateful about, or even write about a special moment or trip that they had with an adult. These questions help the students realize that everyone is different and that we all come from different places and we should respect each other.
My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.
This is my personal reflection about this book. First and foremost, I would like to say that this book is very thick and long to read. There are about nineteen chapters and 278 pages altogether. As a slow reader, it is a quite hard for me to finish reading it within time. It took me weeks to finish reading it as a whole. Furthermore, it is written in English version. My English is just in average so sometimes I need to refer to dictionary for certain words. Sometimes I use google translate and ask my friends to explain the meaning of certain terms.

Some students like the book because they can relate to the culture behind the book which is Latino. In the article by Seema Mehta it states “Teachers said the book helped connect with their Latino students, who make up two thirds of the district.¨ In Los Angeles the Latino population is high so when some students can connect to a book they´ll be more interested in reading it. The article also states ¨They felt empowered by this book¨. The students felt empowered by the book they could understand what the kids or people in the book were saying and they could relate to it.
This work documented the human experience in a light that I would not have seen it had I only read the books assigned to me in class. The themes in this book and how they were portrayed helped me to be able learn symbolism a bit better and also to understand my own life more clearly.
The book is sectioned into three sections. The three sections were the stories of three kids, who were going through the same tragedy but in there view. I liked the way she did this because not only gave you a detailed look through one child, but you go to experience the knowledge of three different children and what they thought. It makes it possible for more people to be able to relate to this book.
The book makes me understand the importance of reading and know how weak I’m in reading comprehension. Not only is my reading speed slow, but also my thoughts after reading are immature. I haven’t fix some time to read English books before so my background knowledge and vocabulary are far from abundant.
The Flowers By Alice Walker Written in the 1970's The Flowers is set in the deep south of America and is about Myop, a small 10-year old African American girl who explores the grounds in which she lives. Walker explores how Myop reacts in different situations. She writes from a third person perspective of Myop's exploration. In the first two paragraph Walker clearly emphasises Myop's purity and young innocence.
