Subculture: Mixed Martial Arts
Society today have change from historical times, one of the changes in our culture here in the United States is the changes in Martial Arts. This change has created a subcultures called Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), which is a distinct form that is different from the mainstream or traditional form of martial Arts .“The Random House Dictionary defines subculture as (1) the cultural values and behavioral patterns distinctive of a particular group in society. (2) a group having social, economic, ethnic or other traits distinctive enough to distinguish it from others within the same culture or society.”
MMA group is a mixture of Japanese and American martial arts. MMA Subculture is a combination of Shooto or shoot wrestling, of Japan and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. They were many shows and videos that made the sport popular. Mixed martial arts competitions were first introduced in the United States with the first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 1993 (http://submissions101.com/mma#sthash.bCGzx2i5.dpuf)
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a battle with a wide variety of skills and fighting techniques that is used in competitions. Jiu Jitsu is the main skill sets used when MMA fighters are in competition. Some of the fighting techniques in MMA range from kicking, grappling to striking. MMA also have some forms of karate, boxing, kick boxing, Taekwondo, and Judo. MMA even have they own set of rules which was adopted on July 30, 2009, called the "Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts"(URMMA).

...varying styles like Hapkido, Jiu Jitsu. We also get to go to international tournaments to compete. This is interesting because we get to understand how different people live and to learn more about their culture. MMA is not just for hard work but you gain friends along the way not just with the students but the instructors.
I love the practicing art of Taekwondo and it has literally made my life more interesting. The fighting and self-defense aspect has taught me many life skills such as self-control, self-discipline, respect and commitment. I have learnt so much and I still have much more to learn.
