LITERATURE REVIEW:
INTRODUCTION:
Subcontractors play very important role in the process of construction and often their work is underestimated. It is very common observation that owners hire professionals such as architects, engineers, construction managers, and general contractors. But, the actual work is performed primarily by subcontractors. The subcontractor performs the work according to the plans and specifications that are provided from the design professionals employed by the owner. For example, an electrical trade subcontractor is usually given a set of electrical plans and technical specifications designed by an electrical engineer and reviewed by the project architect. (Subcontracts and Subcontractors 2014).
Many construction companies adopt the process of subcontracting to increase their efficiency in the construction process (Ohnuma 2000). The subcontractors should participate in the safety training programs organized by general contractors to address the safety issues before the commencement of the work. Subcontractors should follow the safety guidelines of general contractor and also implement their own safety policies. Moreover, subcontractors are responsible for establishing efficient communication between them and the general contractor and other subcontractors.
