I am writing to you to request an extension of our lunch period by 30 minutes. I am requesting this because I feel that our current lunch is too short of a time. Lunch is not only a time for us to eat, but it is also a time for us to connect with friends and make connections. Connection is one of the most important aspects of supporting a student's bright future and with the current lunch time that we have, there is barely any time for students to make friends. On top of that, student connections help bring a sense of belonging to students, and if there’s not a sense of belonging, then our performance in school will be down. Lunch should be extended because of the health benefits it can bring. In an article by the King County Schools Program, “Arundel High …show more content…
By giving us more lunchtime, you are giving us more time to eat and a chance to refresh our minds and create a community with our friends. Moreover, increased lunchtime can lead to better nutritional values and also a more clean environment for our lunch area. “Studies have shown that providing more time for lunch is associated with the following: Increased consumption of food and key nutrients, Increased selection of a fruit, Increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, lunch entrée, and milk, and Decreased plate waste.”(CDC). Students with a time limit to eat lunch rush to a line and shove food in their mouth, which causes more stress and anxiety and causes more calorie consumption. But by giving us more lunch time, you can help create a more clean lunch environment, and, you’ll cause less stress, which also leads to a longer lifespan. However, some say that shorter lunch periods allow for longer class periods, which in turn allows students to learn
The intake of proper nutrients helps balance the maintenance of bodily functions; supporting the longevity of a healthy lifestyle. (Denton, Carolyn. “How does food Impact Health?” www.takingcharge.csh.umn.edu). With constant technological advance in the world, it is important to become aware of how frequent the world changes daily in preparation for self-maturity. What is a more effective way to approach the real world than to have a direct experience? The researcher will address the topic on why community high schools in America should allow its students off campus during lunch. Allowing children to have a better lunch option could help educational strength as well as attend to other essential needs. (Anderson, Melinda. “Do healthy lunches
Limited, restricted, and restrained. Are you having enough time to fully demolish your food in lunch? Do you have a problem enjoying lunch knowing you have to rush? Longer lunches for everyone will be extremely beneficial in many ways. I’m assuming that most of you will argue that expanding lunch isn't harmful. You'll probably agree that longer many periods expose pros. However they're cons included such as a decrease in time to get for filled with education. Although that's horrible students need a break some times. Administrators need to extend lunch to one hour.
One reason our school should get a new lunch menu is many students do not like the food served. For example, a survey was taken and of the 31 students 100% said they disliked the food. As student Bryan Huang said, “The lunches are horrible, they need better choices and more choices.” In other words, the food is not delicious and there are not many choices. Also, when children don’t get proper nutrition they have trouble focusing in school. Most students do not buy lunch because they feel it is unappealing and do not like the food served. Many students go to other kids and ask for food. In addition, many students do not eat breakfast so they rely on lunch to fuel them for the day. But, if they do not like the food served they won’t eat so they starve for the rest of the school day, which can
Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where
“More than a third of the county's children are overweight or obese.”(Gustin, 1). As shocking as this is, it's true. One of the big reasons that children and teens are overweight is because of the foods that they eat. They are fed these fattening and unhealthy foods by the school system. Their futures can be changed if we change our choices. Having more nutritious lunches can have a positive impact on the health of American teens.
If schools serve lunches with whole grains and protein, the students would stay full and attentive much longer than a student with a lunch of sugar, white bread, and lush greens. Although many believe that schools should provide a healthy lunch for students, there is a small percentage who feels that because of the budget cuts, schools should not pay for more expensive and healthier food. Shereen Jegtvig, a nutritionist, wrote "Appleton, Wisconsin replaced their regular poor-quality school lunches with healthy fresh food.changes resulted in improved behavior.... ... middle of paper ... ... 1.
Many high schools nationwide are extremely large, and with that comes large classes, high competition in extracurricular activities, and extreme overcrowding in places such as the hallways and especially the cafeteria. Some students skip lunch or even eat in a teacher’s room just because they cannot find a table or space to sit at their allotted time for lunch and want to avoid the extreme chaos of lunch. This issue isn’t just occurring in places far away but happens right here in Belton because of the size of the high school. Although, many believe it could be fixed by a simple change, by allowing the senior class of that year to have off campus lunch. Making that change would reduce the number of students who attend lunch by at least 300 students, thus drastically changing the size of each lunch time making it more efficient and less crowded.
President Harry Truman initiated The School Lunch Program (NSLP) in 1946, it was established under the National School Lunch Act. The program provides nutritionally balanced, low‐cost lunches to more than 32 million boys and girls each school day.The NSLP ensures the nutrition, portion, and safety of our children food, over the years do to the rise of childhood obesity the The USDA School Lunch Program is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our youth. Many concerned citizens, such as Eric schlosser author of Fast Food Nation believes that the USDA is not providing our children with the right nourishment. Many parents are taking it into their own hand and creating and joining advocacy groups. It is crucial that our youth receive nutrient
One of the many benefits of open lunch is that students can take a break from school. Students will have the opportunity to take a break from school and spend some time relaxing at home (Gazette). The benefit of this is that students will be refocused and ready for school. If you let students have a change midday they will come back refreshed and ready for the other half of the day (Reverman). Students will be full of good food and ready to learn.
We should not have longer school lunches. Longer school lunches has a great impact on everyone in school, it makes this issue worse. Students need what is best for them, which they already have. Short school lunches helps improve learning skills and lets students comprehend better. Our lunches are good as they are right now. We should not allow students to leave during school lunch.
Throughout high school most students dream of eating Pizza Ranch, or Subway everyday for lunch. However most schools do not allow this opportunity. Exira-EHK High School should have open campus lunches for various reasons. The cafeteria would be less crowded, variety of food choices for the student body, and will save the school money.
Teenagers already have a rough life, as they are expected to come to the same place every day and do annoying assignments that only stress them out. On top of that, they have to deal with teachers nagging them about their work while studying for upcoming tests. With all that built-up stress, the only chance they have to relax is during their daily lunch break, a time when they can hang out with friends and eat some delicious food. At least that’s how it used to be until Michelle Obama came in and ruined it all. By trying to make food “healthier” for the students, she subsequently wrecked lunch for millions of kids who would rather starve than eat lunch at school now.
One reason why we should have longer lunch is that students can catch up on any missed work. If a student missed a day of school they can
For example, a director of nutrition services says, “At the end of the day, [students] still have to have all their core classes and electives, people worry if they’re getting enough P.E. time, and starting and ending times don’t really change. So principals can’t dip into educational time to include more lunchtime.” While it is true that students need enough time to go to all of their classes, teachers and administrators need to also realize that if lunch periods were longer, students would engage more into their learning. For example, in the article Teachers Say Students Don’t Have Enough Time to Eat Lunch. Here’s How to Change That.
Most of the teachers at school I interviewed thought the time we had for lunch was enough. Interpretation of Results and Findings With the data and results that I received, the data I got from the Tulsa Tech students and students that stay at school shows that all of them agree with me. The results I received are important because it shows that the students would like longer lunches, but it does not seem possible because we wouldn’t want to stay at school longer.
