One of the oldest forms of dancing happens to be strip dancing, yet it is considered to be the most controversial one. The modern version of strip dancing was introduced during the early 20th century when it faced immense controversy. Most people did not even think of visiting a strip club to watch the seductive dance performance of the erotic dancers. At that time, strip dancing was enjoyed only by the men of the lower class of the society and the sailors on leave. Gradually people accepted strip dancing as a new form of dancing and nowadays it has become widely popular all over the world.

The competition gets very intense as the women who participate in the competitions are extremely talented. A girl must have several qualities to compete and succeed in the strip dance competitions. The most important qualities that a girl should have are,
1. Having a gorgeous look is very important to draw the attention of the judges during the audition. If you visit any well-known gentlemen's club, you will see that most of the erotic dancers look extraordinarily beautiful. Even the spectators like to watch the beautiful girls dancing cloth less in front of them.

The brothel boy is the main suspect when a local 12 year old girl is raped. The victim is found naked with a head wound being held by the brothel boy after a group of farmers hear a scream coming from the river. Since he was the only one there the villagers assumed he was the perpetrator. So they formed a mob and tried to get people’s justice by almost beating him to death. This small village is located in Burma before modern times. Many believe that the brothel boy committed this assault because he has worked in the brothel all his life, seeing the acts, and is very undereducated. The villagers are calling that the brothel boy be hanged for his crime because they fear he could do it again if he gets out. The brothel boy’s punishment all comes
Before the Lindy-Hop became popular and long before tap dance was established in the United States, Black Bottom dance was popular among both Blacks and Whites in Harlem, New York. The dance craze, appropriated from the blacks in Harlem’s nightclubs, became a big rage when brought to the white community and put on stage. Black Bottom dance, also known as “Swanee Bottom” was an popular dance among lower class African Americans in the early 1900s. Beloved to be introduced by Alberta Hunter, a popular blues singer, Black Bottom was a dance that emerged from African American culture. Although Black Bottom is not a family recognizable dance today, the popularity of the dance at this time caused a great ripple in the dances that came later on down the line.

The first reason being the opportunity for monetary gain to better their future. In Ganttageep's article, “Exotic Dancing: Illusion and Fantasy, An Exotic Dancers Path to Power”, he shows this desire for money in this following quote, “When asked why they got into the world of exotic dancing many women state that money is the main reason,” (Ganttageep.) In addition, there own personal desires play a huge role in their life changing decision. Finally, previous experiences in life and their skills and attributes greatly affect girls in their decision to become strippers.

As sport acts as a microcosm of society, many issues found in sport such as gender stereotyping, female discrimination, sexploitation and racism, can also be found outside of sport. The cultural level holds immense power in influencing all levels of the framework, with socialisation of factors regarding race, culture, femininity and masculinity filtering through each level and either directly or indirectly impacting the individual level. Both male and female participation in dance is influenced by gender stereotypes with hegemonic beliefs about masculinity and femininity limiting or enhancing both genders equity and access into dance. Within our media saturated society, females dancers are urged to sexualise themselves in order to serve the
The one response that Kathrine heard many times is that the strip club is relaxing for the men. There were many different categories on why men felt this way, “a strip club provided entertainment and leisure, an atmosphere different from both work and home, a relative degree of “safety” as well as “excitement”, and an opportunity for both personal and sexual acceptance from women” (87). The men notice how talking to the dancers is different from talking to their male friends. Brett mentioned how he saw on a television show that a guy told a group of friends how quick he is in the sack and the men responded that it happens to everyone once in a while to try and comfort him
Burlesque is its inception was a radical form of theatrical performance art and "the performances included a ' chaotic and nebulous combination of dancing, singing, minstrelsy (black face), witty repartee, political commentary, parodies of plays and scant clothing ' as well as cross dressing and comedy." (Nally, 2009) When you hear burlesque now the first thing that probably comes to mind is Dita Von Teese. The black hair, fair skin, sultry yet flirtatious aura, the 50s pin-up style that makes you wonder whether or not she’s found a time machine. The second thing to come to mind are slim women who make big bucks working in Vegas or other big metropolitan cities giving shows that sell out. For quite a few individuals unfamiliar with burlesque
What makes Exotic dance clubs so popular in America? Exotic dance club or Gentelman’s clubs are very popular in American due to multiple reasons. For instance, they all aim for different types of people due to the area they are located in. In the article Doing gender, Doing class: The Performance of Sexuality in Exotic Dance Clubs by Mary Nell Trautner the theory about how gender and class are associated with strip clubs is researched. Trautner’s argument is that strip clubs make their business by making appropriate types of sexuality and femininity for certain audience, and they do this by shaping the exotic dancer into the ideal “dream girl” for that specific audience.
Throughout this research, we have reviewed pertinent information needed to understand drag performers and their vibrant culture. Exploration of definitions, the diverse culture, and the positive and negative views in society associated with drag performers has brought us to this point, hopefully much more educated and understanding of the individuals involved in this fascinating world. By the nature of its performance, drag will continually evolve and never fit neatly into a rigid definition. Continuous research such as this will be needed more than ever as our society continues to diversify, allowing us to stay proactive and understanding of the world developing around us. In this case, that world is drag.
Are human grandeur and its evocation dependent then on a set of physical characteristics alone? Doesn't what is in a human being's mind, heart and soul have anything to do with it? At the end of the day, mustn't a dancer --no matter what she looks like-- show us evidence of the "fire of life" burning inside her to ever truly impress us?
Over the course of instruction, I have gathered an understanding that Burlesque differs from other kinds of strip-tease in it’s humor and current commentary, sometimes specifically on social or political situations. The theoretical portion of the performance was the most entertaining part--the performance portion was a bit more difficult for me. As a sexual assault survivor, on-stage vulnerability (particularly involving the removal of clothing) will always been a challenge for me, but incorporating my feelings about those kinds of situations made the exercise more plausible. While any commentary on physical sexual assault is a long way off for me, other components (specifically verbal) are still a source of tension among society at large.
What you may not know is that strippers don’t always sleep with clients, and any sexual activity that goes beyond a lap dance doesn’t happen in the club either, even in VIP rooms. It usually depends on the type of club and the clientele they cater to.
“Sex and the Social Dance” was a streaming video which examined the sexuality of social dances around the world. Regardless of geographical location or decade of popularity, dance conveyed social values. In particular, the sexuality was expressed through physical contact or lack thereof, in the gender roles of the dance, and in the purpose of the dance.
...lly dancers have to love the dance, because for all that work, dancers get little money—workshops with master dancers usually cost around seventy-five dollars, costumes average five hundred dollars each, and dancers are usually paid only fifty dollars for two and a half hours of work. But Belinda Shakar cannot imagine her life without dance: “I’ve gone through so many careers, but I’ve always stuck with belly dance. I’ve just been doing it for so long.” From dancing, she has found freedom in being in touch with her body and the healing powers of movement. She is now working as a massage therapist, helping others free up their bodies as well. For her, dance is about enjoying her body and expressing her sensuality, not entertaining others or making money. So she is not at all concerned about making it to the top. Besides, she says, “in belly dancing, there is no top.”
