Usually when a student gets home from school they sit at a table, and get out all their homework. If you're like me, in high school after school you have piles of papers that you have to get done in just one night. In this situation you feel really pressured especially if it's due the next day you are afraid your homework won't get finished on time. Students in america should get lesser homework for the whole five days of school because too much can cause a serious amount of stress, a lot of time is required to get it done, and it decreases your after school free time and sleep.
When a student has too much homework it can cause stress leading to serious health issues in the body physically and mentally. Stressing over homework can negatively affect school work. By stressing it can cause failing a class, bad eating habits, lack of sleep, and depression. A poll in 2006 called the Sleep America Poll that dealt with students in school work. Having reduced amount of family time, and reduced time for activities has the effect of always doing homework. It then leads to less time for sports and enjoying after school activities with other friends. Also family conflict can evolved when family time is decreased when you don't have time to do your responsibilities at home. Hanging out with friends is also decreased, so you don't have time to interact and socialize. When you're up all night doing homework and trying your best to stay up late it starts taking away a kids time to sleep. Sleep hardships can cause stress and many more circumstances. Not plenty of sleep can leave a student exhausted, and during school they might not focus as much or either fall asleep in class. Then the student suddenly get in trouble for falling asleep in class. Homework is taking away a student's childhood. Why would anyone want such a thing to
79% of American middle school and high school students take part regularly in at least one after-school extracurricular activity. Many students participate in sports that can take up to 4 hours of their time, daily. Homework takes time to do after school and extracurriculars. If a student goes to school at 9:00 and gets out at 4:00, then goes to an after-school activity from 4:00 to 6:00, they will come home and have dinner from about 6:30 to 7:15, which means that they will probably start homework at around 7:30. This means that high school students will be up until about 11:00 finishing their homework, that’s without factoring in how much time the students will waste.
Healthline.com has said that “Students in high achieving neighborhoods who spend too much time on homework have more health problems, stress, and alienation from society.” Being sick of school is one thing, but when school is making you sick because of the homework you have now is bad. Elementary kids having physical problems just from homework can eventually lead to other possible problems down the road. These problems include substance abuse, becoming a high school dropout, and possibly death by suicide. So why risk a student’s life for a few homework
Todays students are busier than they have ever been in American history. Homework is a large contributor to this. The average student in America has approximately four hours of homework each night. If students start homework right when they get home from school, that gives them free time starting at 7:00 PM. The majority of students also have jobs. So. between school, work, homework, and practice, that leaves them virtually no time to be able to hang out with friends or to participate in family activities.
“Over time, sleep deprivation leads to serious consequences for academic achievement, social behavior, and the health of our nation’s youth.” -Congresswomen. If schools continue to start early, the more frustrated you can be around peers. The lack of sleep makes people crabby and irritated. Homework is a major problem when it comes to sleep. In other words, students force themselves to finish their homework, and strive to succeed in school. All of the work that they do can make them irritable around friends, and takes time away from activities.
If teenagers don't get enough sleep that can start to become a safety hazard mentally and physically. There have been many students in situations where school can become to difficult and if you're not getting enough sleep that obviously doesn't help. Students in these kind of dilemmas can be to over whelming so people can make very intense situations such as drugs, bad hobbies, and sometimes committing suicide. Too much pressure can be way too much power especially for a student in high school or middle school because they are so young. This can be a very
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says that students aren’t getting adequate amounts of sleep and this is a problem. It was said that “The CDC’s recommendations come a year after the American Academy of Pediatrics urged schools to adjust start times so more kids would get the recommended 8.5 to 9.5 hours of nightly rest.” (“Why School Should”). This tells us that students need a certain amount of sleep to function properly. An article from neatoday.org states “Unfortunately, concerns about lack of sleep often get the brush-off from schools and even some parents who are quick to blame inattentiveness in school solely on teen behavior, laziness, general indifference, or all of the above. If only they went to bed earlier, concentration and attentiveness would improve. But in their report, the researchers say that schools are ignoring adolescent biology and are systematically restricting the time available for sleep and causing severe and chronic sleep loss.” (“Despite Proven Benefits”) An example of this is helping with student academics. The Atlantic also regards in their article that “Researchers analyzed data from more than 9,000 students at eight high schools in Minnesota, Colorado, and Wyoming and found that shifting the school day later in the morning resulted in a boost in attendance, test scores, and grades in math, English, science, and social studies. Schools also saw a decrease in tardiness, substance abuse, and symptoms of depression. Some even had a dramatic drop in teen car crashes.” (“Why School Should”). From this data you can see that through the right amount of sleep, students are able to better perform in learning
If students don’t get enough sleep, school will be difficult. Being sleep deprived can limit someone’s potential to learn, listen, focus, and solve problems. They may forget important details like names, numbers, and homework. All of those abilities are needed to achieve many things in life. If students forget how to do any of those things, then students wouldn’t be learning anything from school. Especially since lack of sleep can lead to aggressive or inappropriate behavior. Acting up in school will cause problems for a student. Being sleep deprived could also make students more vulnerable to acne because not getting enough sleep can cause skin problems. If school didn’t start so early, students wouldn’t have these any of these problems.
Too much stress due to homework is quite common. It may be why students do not enjoy school. When I conducted a survey, I discovered that 100% received homework and 80% said that they get a lot of homework daily. I found that the average stress level from the students I asked was between seven and eight. Homework should not be given because it can lead to stress.
Sometimes there is only a small time when the whole family is home, but if school goes later it might cut into that time. Some kids might have to drop out of clubs and teams so that they have enough time to do
If students have a lot of homework and get home around 5:30, it will make it harder for some students to complete homework on time. If they have a big test the next day they will need to study really hard but it will be very late. Students will also try to stay up late to get homework done. The repercussion is that they will be extremely tired the next day and unfocused. Students will also be stressed out over what they need to complete and what still needs to be done.
In today’s world, education is more important than ever, and with education comes homework. However, many teachers give too much homework, which makes students extremely stressed. In addition, some are into sports or after school activities, and some have part time jobs they have to work at, which adds additional stress to the already overworked students. Mounds of homework can cause students to be under so much stress that it affects them mentally, physically, and emotionally. Stress can make students sick with colds, stomach aches, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, and/or anxiety disorders (Menninger and Dugan).
Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
It eats away time that students could be spending time with family, friends, events, and adventures. When they are out and about they learn things about themselves and the things around them. Homework isn’t just unpleasant, it takes away time that student can experience other things. For example; many teachers assign homework over the weekend and it takes away time that students could use for organized sports, or to hang out with friends and their community. Children could participate in something much greater in their community, like volunteer or participate in a political rally.
Many others might say that homework helps exercise your brain and makes you smarter, and that’s only partly true. Homework can be a good thing, but teachers need to decrease the amount they are giving their students. If teens are stuck in their rooms doing homework all day, they can lose the ability to socialize or fall into a pit of depression. Doing homework all day might also lead to an attention span problem and can distract them from the outside world. The lack of physical activity can cause kids to become obese or unhealthy in some other way, leading to a more unhealthy
To start off, too much homework can be a huge time consuming monster. With what some students do after school, there simply isn’t enough time to
