As I read chapter one of the Strategic Staffing textbook, I found that Chern’s has a very strong strategic plan. Every single decision that was made for this company served as a strategic example to get and stay ahead of their competitors. Chern’s CEO and COO, Ryan and Ann Chern, have shaped this department store in a way that not only brings in profit, but can set the trend for its competitors and future businesses that want to join the department store market.
The most important part of Disney’s long-term success is due to its key strategic choices and incorporation of various diversification strategies. Disney created value mainly through “vertical integration” of its business lines, especially through the concept of forward integration. For example, Disney integrated production of movies and the final distribution in cinema’s or on television, especially through its acquisition of ABC in 1995 (1, p.6/7). Through this acquisition, Disney was able to extent its boundaries quickly and gain access to a wider lev...
Cultural identity influences societal divides by varying emotional expressions, such as smiles and nonverbal cues. Differences in cultural interpretation can lead to misunderstandings and perpetuate societal divides. This divide is further reinforced by media representation and stereotypes, reinforcing the idea of "us" versus "them." Open-mindedness and empathy towards different cultural backgrounds are crucial for promoting an inclusive and diverse society. " Sonrisas" by Pat Mora is a poignant poem exploring societal divide, cultural identity, and resilience.

A team of IDEO designers from San Francisco, California has been hired by Cineplanet, the premier cinema chain in Peru, to re-imagine the cinematic experience. The prototypes that IDEO wanted to implement in the Cineplanet would change the entire organizational culture of the Cineplanet. So, in this case, would Cineplanet agree to the IDEO’s strategy or not.
Armstrong ( 2010) defined Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) as “an approach to making decisions on the intentions and plans of the organisation in the shape of the policies, programmes and practices concerning the employment relationship, resourcing, learning and development, performance management , rewards and employee relationships,” ( p. 115). There is a paradigm shift from a functional role to a tactical one through the strategic management process. SHRM is very important to the effectiveness of my learning organisation because it ensures that the needs of the learning community are met and provides the opportunity for instructional leaders to “add value to the learning community” (Introduction to Human Resource Management, 2012, p.6) while achieving the goals and objectives of the institution.
Two new managers have been appointed at Sony in the last 15 years due to a number of developing problems, including the innovation ‘cogs’ within Sony slowing down, being forced into an aggressive pricing strategy, increased competition, losing the battle of VHS and Betamax, profit and sales remaining flat and the ongoing poor performance of Sony films (Mintzberg et al, 2003). Both managers initiated major strategic changes with varying degrees of success; firstly Nobuyuki Idei was appointed and initiated a major shift from analogue to digital technology, as there was a belief that Sony was falling behind the market in this respect. Idei also targeted the top position in the audio and visual industry, a universal standard in home computer devices and a new distribution infrastructure. He believed his job was the ‘regeneration of the entrepreneurial spirit’ (Mintzberg et al, 2003), believing it had been lost.
Movie theaters are focusing on moving from film projection systems to digital and 3D systems. With these added technological changes, ticket prices typically rise creating revenue gains for the industry. These changes are drawing more consumers into the theaters because the in-theater experience is something that they cannot get from online streaming at
We intend to exploit our leadership role by continuing to target and enter segments of the communications market that we believe will experience rapid growth or grow faster than the industry as a whole....
