LETTER OF MOTIVATION
Every time I go to a hospital, I experience how enormous the contribution of engineering in medicine and healthcare is. Even more noteworthy is the potential of what engineering can make possible- making our lives healthier and safer.
Biomedical Engineering has emerged as an independent discipline only recently. It offers a huge opportunity for research. It brings a new understanding and allows focusing on living systems so that contribution can be made to the improvement of healthcare and clinical applications. It excites me extremely when I consider how much I can do for human health and safety through working in this field.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND & TRAINING
I value academics as a powerful means to realize dreams. I persistently scored well in school and high school. I opted to pursue my passion in under-graduate studies and chose to study Biomedical Engineering, the details of which are clearly enumerated in my curriculum vitae.
I focused and worked hard with a clear objective as a result of which I was always among the top 5 students in my class, scoring a creditable 8.83 on a scale of 10. During the course I trained in hospitals where I observed the application of what I had learned in college about my subject.
It was in the third year of my undergraduate course that I discovered my inclination towards biomedical imaging. So I started looking for a project that would be the key to discovering this subject. I began working on it with the objective of gaining a novel approach to the development of adaptive filtering of low dosed CT Data.
After completing the course too, I did a voluntary internship and took this opportunity to do a hands-on training in Medical Electronics. I worked on a research-based p...

...ity of Turku of special interest to me. As your website says, the University gives me the resources to acquire the knowledge and skills in different aspects of the field, ranging from molecular and cellular to tissue and clinical imaging. The curriculum lays stress on developing the practical skills of a student. I was also impressed by the vast scope of research that the university offers. Apart from this, it provides me with a unique opportunity for software development for image processing and analysis.
CONCLUSION
I am hopeful that you will grant me admission into your university so I can further pursue my dream of contributing to the development of this relationship between engineering and medicine. I propose to achieve the same by pursuing PhD and subsequently a post- doctorate after completion of MS in Biomedical Imaging in the University of Turku.
My interest in MRI started when I first read the book “MRI, The Basics” written by the author Ray Hashemi. By the time I successfully finished my MRI clinical placement in Tehran University of Medical Sciences, I knew for sure that MRI would be the field I would be choosing to take on. What attracts me most about MRI is how beautifully scientist could create a technology that can take advantage of the magnetic moments of human body for imaging it without any harms of ionizing radiation. Although there are drawbacks to MRI, combining it with other modalities would be a more effective approach to an accurate diagnosis.
After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree, I continued to work as a staff MRI technologist. Even though I loved what I did and had a passion helping people, the lack of diversity within radiology and its limited room for growth bothered me. I decided to look into furthering my career and found an interest in Health Information Technology. Upon researching many different schools through the country offering an online graduate Health Information Technology program, the University of Michigan in Dearborn stood out to me. Medicine and technology have both always been a part of my life, and I am very happy and excited that the chance for it to play a new part has finally arrived. I’m motivated to learn how I can combine the science of information with clinical knowledge so I can help to better patient care and
These studies, in my opinion, hold to be necessary on my intended path to research breast cancer, and hopefully extend my investigations and findings to other types of cancerous diseases as well. Besides that, these degrees could not only be useful for research on cancer, but also in other types of disease research or development of modern technologies with the focus on sharpened imaging and detection, regenerative technologies, and biomechanics. That is why I also desire to apply my outstanding analytic and problem solving skills to extend my horizons. Therefore, I aim to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineer before completing graduate school or medical school, which would succor my future in research activities. Thus, I know that in order for to develop the latest technology additional fields of study remain necessary to create a cutting-edge and satisfactory solution to resolve a
In 1971, scientists were motivated to use magnetic resonance for detection of diseases after discovering the difference in nuclear magnetic relaxation times of tissues and tumors (Dr. J. Hornak, n.d). In 1973, Lauterbur and Mansfield defined the use of magnetic field gradients for spatial localization of NMR signals, laying the foundation for MRI in the future. Two years later, Richard Ernst used Fourier Transform (an algorithm for the analysis of heat transfer between solid bodies) to encode and reconstruct 2D images, which underpins MRI today (Geva, 2006).
Presently, my extracurricular and academic interests are combined in my two year Health Science class. The class provides real-life medical situations that I may come in contact with in the future. Like any health science class, we study the body, in both its’ functional and dysfunctional state. This survey class also includes an introduction to equipment, medical protocol, and ethical issues. A sense of teamwork guides our procedures. Next semester, I will study at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Ramstein High School’s Career Practicum program. After initial on-the-job application of classroom learning, we will work with patients, supervised by the hospital staff. Living so close to a hospital that services thousands of seriously injured patients every year provides opportunities that other students lack, even in their college programs.
Radiology is one of the few so-called “physical-science”-based fields of medicine, making it a challenging and rewarding application of an academic interest in science. It combines advanced knowledge of human physiology with principles of atomic physics and nuclear decay, electricity and magnetism, and both organic and inorg...
Engineers are developing new systems to use genetic information, sense small changes in the body, assess new drugs, and deliver vaccines.
The medical field offers a variety of job opportunities for people of any age, education and skill level. One of the many jobs offered by the medical field is that of a biomedical engineer. A biomedical engineer applies engineering principles to healthcare and the equipment used in the health field. Being a biomedical engineer, you can take very many paths as soon as you finish your schooling. Depending on where you work, you can have multiple duties such as designing equipment and devices used for diagnosing and treating medical problems. Biomedical engineers evaluate the properties of biomedical equipment, maintain, and provide technical support with proper training required to use the equipment. On the more scientific aspect of the job,
What drives me to pursue a career as a biomedical engineer is not only to help disabled patients, but also my love of the field itself. Biomedical engineering combines two subjects that have left strong impressions on me, biology and physics. Just learning these subjects from classes and textbooks does not suffice to quench my curiosity. I want to learn more through personal experience. At SIMR, I will be able to handle my own research project, and it will really help me gain an even stronger interest, and propel me forward into my career
Furthermore, during my time at University, I noticed that Biology especially Human Anatomy and Physiology grabbed my attention and indeed a preparation for my new course in Radiography. Also, this part of the degree course has contributed a major strength on the entry requirements. In this gap year, I sat for IELTS exams and I passed all modules. In the meantime, I am having Maths tuition from the ICS Learn to prepare for Edexel Maths exams on May, 2017 at Basil Paterson Tutorial College in
My desire of studying biomedical sciences stems from my sciences interest, as it demonstrates a world not visible to the naked eye, plays a big role in everyday life. science specifically biology and chemistry are stimulating and challenging subjects , over the years of studying them ,my interest has increased because learning things about how our bodies function and how it relates to god’s creation is particularly interesting for me. I also find it very important because I’m Muslim. The biomedical science degree will open for me the door to learn more about the vast field of biology and its branches to a greater depth. I developed my knowledge in the science field by taking support classes in the lab at school; I was fascinated by how the body can function in different circumstances and the complexity of DNA, different organisms, chemical reactions, and also very importantly the mathematical aspect which gives me the chance to develop and use my logic and it inform me to new ways of looking at given problems.
There are different types of engineers in the world. There are the engineers that analyze the mechanics of a system that make it function, engineers that apply electricity to improve our daily lives, and then there are engineers who develop solutions to solve human health problems. The term bioengineering contains both the words biology and engineering, meaning that engineering concepts are applied to improve the lives of humans. Bioengineering is the future to improved health and living styles for human beings. I am fond to bioengineering because it improves the living of people who are in a body that cannot satisfy their daily needs of simply walking or moving at ease. I have a friend that is incapable to walk; therefore he will be sitting down in a wheelchair for the rest of his life unless bioengineering will help him finally get up to his feet for the first time of his life. It...
Biomechanical engineering is driven by needs similar to those of biomedical engineering. There is always a constant need to improve medical equipment while keeping it cost efficient. These are the two main needs for all biomedical engineers. Biomechanical engineering is specifically dedicated to applying the scientific of knowledge mechanical systems and engineering to biology and the human body. One of the many needs that drives this biomedical subfield is society’s need for more advanced equipment and machinery. Some recent advances show this need. In the last decade, biomechanical engineers have invented and innovated new robots and machines that can assist a surgeon in surgery or serve as an artificial liver. These machines satisfy the need to improve and innovate new equipment that can save lives and improve how people in the medical field perform their
I started to explore the different fields of medicine by working as a Medical Scribe in the Emergency Department, ER tech in Trauma Centers, getting involved in research, volunteering at hospitals and taking high level science classes. This will enhance my knowledge and experience i...
