MRI Technologist Personal Statement

After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree, I continued to work as a staff MRI technologist. Even though I loved what I did and had a passion helping people, the lack of diversity within radiology and its limited room for growth bothered me. I decided to look into furthering my career and found an interest in Health Information Technology. Upon researching many different schools through the country offering an online graduate Health Information Technology program, the University of Michigan in Dearborn stood out to me. Medicine and technology have both always been a part of my life, and I am very happy and excited that the chance for it to play a new part has finally arrived. I’m motivated to learn how I can combine the science of information with clinical knowledge so I can help to better patient care and

healthcare communication.
I am ecstatic to have the opportunity in learning from U of M’s exemplary faculty, and interacting with the accomplished student body.

With the University of Michigan offering a world-class education, my perspective will enable me to be the best in understanding health information technology. Having the convenience to learn through distance learning will also give me the opportunity to maintain my professional career, and continue to provide a steady home environment for my family. Completing this degree program will show my son an excellent example to follow.

I want to approach my career with the best possible qualifications. Moreover, as a woman, I feel I will be an excellent role model for other ambitious healthcare professionals. Having been born in the Philippines and raised in the United States, I feel that I possess a level of cultural awareness, as well as a sensitivity for the different needs of minorities that will help me within the field. In addition, I feel that the US healthcare system needs people like myself who are bilingual and can communicate effectively with people of different backgrounds given the influx of diverse

clients.
Having a positive impact in the efficient and effective operation of a healthcare facilities IT department would be ideal for me. This will be my contribution, and the method by which I will improve our healthcare system, within a field that I know will bring me the greatest sense of personal and professional rewards. The field of health information technology is growing rapidly, and is full of opportunities. Standing in the middle of this field, one cannot see boundaries. Through an academic relationship with University of Michigan, I feel that I can make that field even larger.
I feel I have a great deal to offer, not only during my terms of the University of Michigan Health Information Technology program, but beyond, within the communities that I will go on to serve along with the lives that I will influence. For the future of others as well as mine, I vow to always seek out innovative and sustainable changes within our healthcare system. Thank you for your time and consideration.
