Saint Pierre and Miquelon is a Francophone country in Northern North America. It is a collection of Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The capital of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is Saint Pierre and the official language is French.
Saint Pierre and Miquelon is off the Northern part of North America. It is a collection of eight islands in the Northern Atlantic Ocean. The terrain of this country is mostly rocky, so the vegetation is scarce. The size is 93 square miles or 242 square kilometers and can be compared to the size of Brooklyn New York or 1.5 the size of Washington D.C. The coastal line is almost 75 miles long and it is about 16 miles from the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
The climate of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is usually cold and wet. A lot of times it is foggy or misty. In the spring and fall, it is very windy. Usually it is very humid in this country because it has the subarctic continental climate. The summers are not like ours here. They are cool and rarely accede temperatures of 66 degrees Fahrenheit. They last from July to September and the average temperature is 59 degrees Fahrenheit. The winters last from December to March and have an

average temperature of 37 degrees Fahrenheit. The coldest day of the year is February 1st with an average low of 22 degrees Fahrenheit. Baverman2 The History of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is a long one. It was officially discovered on October 21st in 1520, by a Portuguese navigator named Joas Alvarez Fagundes. On his second voyage in 1536, it had the name of Saint Pierre. The thing that attracted people to this island was its rich fishing grounds all near the islands. European fishermen began to come over to the island to experience some of the fishing there. In the early 17th century, people started to come over to live on the islands not jut fish on them. The community started out very small but the Bishop of Quebec helped the country begin to grow and a real village was constructed with a chapel and a flag post. The enemies of Saint Pierre and Miquelon also began to grow as the country did. This country was involved in many attacks by France’s enemies between the years of 1689 and 1713. People who were living here started leaving the country because of all these attacks and the population was decreasing. Finally in 1713, The Treaty of Utrecht ended these wars and the islands were taken under the control of England for the next 50 years. Everything was Anglicized, even the name was changed to “Saint Peter”. Eventually France reclaimed the country in 1763 according to the Treaty of Paris. Later on, after WWII, France offered Saint Pierre and Miquelon freedom from France’s control but they decided to remain under the power of France. This actually helped the islands with tourism because they could say that they were the only “Fragment of France in North America”. The conventional name for the country is the Territorial Collectivity of Saint Pierre and Miquelon. They are currently under the lead of France and their dependency status is Baveman3 the Self Governing Territorial Overseas Collectivity of France. Their government type is a Parliamentary Representative Democracy, so they have an Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branch in their government. They are not an independent country and are ruled by France. Their National Symbol is a 16th century sailing ship. Currently, they are facing no political disputes but have had previous arguments with Canada about the boundaries of their territory. The food in Saint Pierre and Miquelon is mostly seafood because of all the fishing they do. They eat a lot of crab, cod, lobsters, and mussels. They also grow vegetables, and raise cattle, sheep and pigs. In Saint Pierre and Miquelon their music has a tradition of being very rich. Every year they have an annual event on June 1st called Fete Dela Musique where all different musicians play their instruments. Also in August, they celebrate Basque Music where their ancient culture is revealed through tons of choral singing and jazz music. Throughout the years, Saint Pierre and Miquelon has been earning their money mainly based on fishing and fixing fishing fleets. Recently though, the economy has been declining because the number of ships that stop here has lowered and their has been disputes with Canada about things related to fishing such as their quotas. To fix this economic situation, the government has been hoping that their tourism will increase and they will be able to build the economy back up. Saint Pierre and Miquelon has some agriculture but not much because of the rocky land. They do grow veggies and raise Baverman4 cattle, pigs, and sheep, but most of all they are known for their natural resources such as the fish and the deep water ports.
Their manufacturing and industries consists of fish processing, supplies for fishing ships, and of course their tourism. Their work force is about 3,194 and their jobs include agriculture (18%), industry (41%) and services (41%). The unemployment rate is 9.9%. Saint Pierre and Miquelon most usually trade with, France, Germany, Canada, Belgium, U.S., Spain, Italy, and Ireland. Their exports to these different countries usually include things like fish, fish products, soybeans, animal feed, and animal pelts. Their imports usually consist of the necessities such as meat, clothes, fuel, electrical equipment, materials for building, and machinery. Their currency is in
euros. As said before, the official language of Saint a Pierre and Miquelon is French, and this country is under the power of France. The religion here is 99% Roman Catholic and the population is about 5,716. Here they have very strong french traditions and customs, and they are very patriotic. Hockey is a favorite sport and their motto is "A Mare Labor", Latin for, "From the Sea, Work". Saint Pierre and Miquelon is such a small little country that no one really knows much about. Many people have never even knew it existed. In researching about it, I have learned so much about it as a francophone country, and its history. It is truly a little “Fragment of France in North America”
(See Appendix B) Trois-Rivieres has a climate that is very similar to elsewhere in Canada, which is characterized by fluctuating temperatures month-to-month. In particular, Trois-Rivieres’s climate is continental, but it is humid due to its close proximity to a river. (See appendix). The summers are warm with temperatures that rise to 25°C. Autumn tends to be quite cool, but it is not uncommon to have days that are unreasonably hot or cold. Winter can be short and frigid ranging from -7.3°C to -17.6°C. The precipitation annually is quite low, but in May to October, it is quite heavy (See appendix A). The Two major rivers are close to Trois-Rivieres and they there are called the St. Lawrence River and Saint-Maurice River.
Philippe Petit changed numerous peoples’ thoughts about the Twin Towers when he performed his high wire walk between them in 1974. Before Philippe Petit walked the high wire between the Twin Towers in 1974, people weren’t certain how they felt about the construction of the World Trade Center. After Philippe performed, people began to warm up to the idea of the towers. Philippe Petit walked the high wire between the Twin Towers on August 7, 1974. This event prompted Andrew McMahon to write the song “Platform Fire” about this event for his band, Jack’s Mannequin. This song was not a hit for the band; however, fans of Jack’s Mannequin seem to have a special place in their heart for it.
Ronald Joseph Dominique was born in Thibodaux , Louisiana,( Between New Orleans and Baton Rouge), on January 9, 1964. Thibodaux was a relatively well-sized city of about 14, 567 people. Ronald had attended Thibodaux High School and was involved in their glee club and choir, and unfortunately was a victim of sexual discrimination; Ronald was a victim of bullying where the students had accused him of homosexuality. Due to the event, as he aged he developed a sense of split- personality. One side of him would be a gentle, calm, mild -natured and friendly neighbor, and the other side of him was a cross-dressing drag queen attending homosexual bars. In fact, Ron was in the Lions Club just a few months before his arrest and his confession to the

Climate and weather are similar, describing how the atmosphere behaves, the difference being the timescale (Conway, 2010). Weather is a short-term scale of temperature and precipitation, usually considering weeks or less (ibid). Climate, however, is a long term description of months or longer, describing different seasons and trends of temperature and precipitation. Climate of Vancouver is typically mild during the spring and summer and damp during the autumn and winter, and unlike other mountainous areas of British Columbia, it is not excessively cold or snowy (“Hello BC”, n.d.).

“New France was not merely the settlement of a few fur traders; it was also a colony of Christ in the New World, even more a colony of Christ, or of the Church, than of France.” Due to the pious believers that inhabited New France, the country was run in a particular way, separating itself from France. Although falling under the jurisdiction of “New France,” the Acadians governed separately than the rest of the country and were a separate entity within New France. Today, “the Acadians are the French speaking population of the Canadian Maritime provinces,” and these are the Acadians that were not displaced during the expulsions, under British rule. Acadia’s beginnings, with the construction of Port Royal, could have marked the colony for success, but instead, led to a troubling conclusion for the European descendents. Through failed leadership, two major expulsions, and a takeover of the Acadian peoples’ French culture, the once-thriving group has been displaced primarily to Louisiana, taking on a new identity of Cajuns.

Rizzo Island is right in the Gulf of Maine, where the capital city of Megatropolis is located at 43°"N -68°”W. It is in the North-Western hemisphere, on the East side of the Atlantic Ocean. It is considered a part of North America and is South of Maine, and West of Nova Scotia. People here have no specific religion, and mostly speak French and English. The flag is rectangular with a giant lobster on it. The reason for this is because lobster is the main money source for Rizzo Island.

The French and the English had coexisted relatively peacefully in North America for nearly a century. But by the 1750's, as both English and French settlements expanded, religious and commercial tensions began to produce new frictions and new conflicts. The French had explored and claimed a vast region of the continental interior, ranging from Louisiana in the South to the Great Lakes in the North. To secure their hold on these enourmous claims, they founded a whole string of communities, missions, trading posts, and fortresses. The region was enclosed by the four major cities: Montreal, Detroit, New Orleans, and Quebec, the center of the French empire in North America.

Let’s begin with the location of Barbados. Barbados is an Island of a cluster of Caribbean Islands. Its location is on the boundary of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, in a somewhat strange location, if you may. The Island is 166 square miles and is located 13 degrees North, 59 degrees West, leaving it at around 270 miles north-east of Venezuela. Closest to the Island are the nations Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Barbados is generally a flat island, with a central highland; the highest point being Mount Hillaby which stands at 336 meters tall. Barbados is also known as “Little England” by the British. Barbados was named by Pedro A. Campos, a Portuguese explorer, who originally named the Island “Os Barbados’ (The Bearded Ones) because he believed that the islands fig trees looked like beards due to their drooping aerial roots. The capital of Barbados is Bridgetown.
