Animal testing is the use of non-human animals in research and development projects and for purposes of determining the safety of substances such as foods and drugs. It is estimated that more than 115 million animals worldwide are used in laboratory experiments every year, I am going to tell you why it is morally acceptable to do so and then you have to ask yourself does the likely benefit of the research outweigh the likely harm to the animal? Diabetes, Malaria, and Tuberculosis have been deemed treatable. Measles and Hepatitis: both A and B are now preventable. What do these diseases all have in common? All were either treated or prevented due to animal testing. Even though testing on animals is not considered to be morally acceptable, what other options do we have? It is safer to test new products on animals compared to testing those products on humans. The reason animals are the ideal subject is due to the similarities that they share with …show more content…

Hence, the reason why studying microorganisms and cells under a microscope does not yield the same results of those done on animals. Determining the effects of certain drugs requires a circulatory system to dispense the drug to different organs in the body. Also, conditions such as high blood pressure and loss of sight (blindness) cannot be studied in cultures. Computer modules can only be reliable if accurate information from animal research is used to build the models in the first place. (Speaking of Research, 2017.) Furthermore, computer simulations of organs have some use, but, they are generally forced to focus on major interactions at the cost of minor ones. A simulation of a heart may appear to reproduce the movement of muscles used in pumping blood, but will likely be at the cost of minor reactions and interactions going on within an individual cell.
