I wake up every morning imagining myself leaving for a job teaching special education. Early childhood education is my passion and to be able to facilitate the personal acquisition of skills and knowledge of every individual student in my care one day would be an honor. Still, I know that I can’t achieve my dream of helping young and challenged students learn, grow, and thrive until I learn more myself. My intention, then, is simple: I want to enroll in CITE’s Early Childhood and Special Education Master’s program so that every day that I wake up envisioning my ideal future career, I can get to work laying its foundation.

My rationale for pursuing this degree is much deeper than my dream of helping children, although that is, of course, where it all begins. I have been working in the field of special education for some time now and in this time, I have observed unprecedented personal growth in my own life as I have connected with my students and learned from them reciprocally. The impact my students have had on me has been tremendous and I would like to give back to them and others like them in any way that I can. My reasoning for that stems from my own personal philosophy on teaching. I believe that every child learns differently and the responsibility of a teacher is to know instinctively and instantaneously how to adapt to the needs of each student so that the entire class can be elevated as a whole. That elevation isn’t just limited to academic achievements, either; I believe firmly that life skills are as important to impart as any traditionally scholastic lesson may be, especially to very young or developmentally challenged students.
