A protracted 6-hour plane ride and a 2-hour bus ride later, we had finally arrived at the place where our imaginations were the limit, and where the galaxy beyond our own is capable of knowledge our minds couldn’t even begin to comprehend. As we drove up to the village of tin cylinder shaped buildings, known as space camp in Huntsville Alabama, my expectation immediately dropped. But I still had many different thoughts of what the week ahead was going to be like. Would I have fun, or would I just dread the thought of it? But soon all my questions would be answered. As soon as we arrived we got put into our groups, team Phobos and team Luna. I was placed in team Phobos. As the teams split up, this would be the last time we would actually hang out with the other team until the end of the week. One of our strong suits as a team were the missions, Luna, Beta and Orion. The missions were when four people from the team would be in ground control, four people in the spaceship and four people in the international space station. In the first mission, Alpha, I was EECOM. I had to be very alert of the cabin pressure stayed sustainable and that the water and food sources were exceptional. Even though this job is very important, I didn’t get to say or do much throughout the …show more content…
These are planets that orbit around a star other than the sun, but for some galaxies this isn’t truly the case. Astronomers have discovered a group of planets that don’t orbit a star. Scientist believe they are planets that got rejected by other solar systems. Another solar system discovered was a group of planets that orbit around two suns. But the thing that amazes me the most about exoplanets is that they have found other earth like planets. Scientist believe they are capable of water and have the conditions to hold life. The only problem about this planet is that the closest one is 14 light years
Today is the day before we go over the top. I’m dreading it, dying or
“ Ya I guess you are right”. Jack said. He sadly wrapped himself in a bear hug with his grandpa .
Located in the popular Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in California. Every year, mother nature’s breathtaking beauty attracts millions of people from around the world. People hike for three long and fatiguing hours in anticipation of witnessing forceful water rushing down the steep mountain from 2,425 feet above. Last summer, my family and I backpacked through the Yosemite Falls Trail and I came to learn what a truly exhausting experience it is.
Space is a world that many have never and will never experience. Those who’ve never explored the galaxies are left with just their imagination as they try to dream what life is like in the endless void. Questions are left unanswered and unexplained as people wonder: How much of this endlessly expanding universe can humans handle when left out there? Mary Roach, who is determined to find the answer, unearths systems that give the opportunity to encounter different incidents in space without leaving Earth. Roach explains the methods space enthusiasts use to realistically simulate events in space as much as possible in her book “Packing For Mars”. The concerns about potential problems when left in a place without gravity and life are addressed
Planets outside of our solar system are called exo planets. Most exo planets are found using the wobble method. In this method scientist are looking for stars that appear to wobble because of the gravitational pull of their orbiting planets. This is an indirect method where the planets existence is inferred due to the offset or unbalance of the star they are revolving around. By using the Doppler effect, we can tell if a star has a planet revolving around it by looking at its spectrum. If the spectrum fluctuates continuously from high to low f...
A Latino man, father of three young U.S. born kids, comes home after a twelve hour day in the fields. As he sits down at the dinner table, he hears a knock at the door. Four large men force their way into the home carrying high caliber assault rifles. The armed federal agents arrest the two parents and Social Services comes in to take the kids. More and more, we are seeing similar situations.
“Although the walk was long, and I had no one to talk to.” “I enjoyed it,” Titus said as he adjusted himself in his chair trying to look taller, he continued. “I plan to return to you village and visit with the people, both here and the nearby farms.”
Theta poked his head into the firing range. Jack was near a table, loading all sorts of guns. His stomach practically churned at the sight, but he fought against it and walked in. He leant against the wall, arms folded. He was practically telling his mind to go ahead and do this--but his body was disagreeing time and times over. ‘’Alright,’’ the captain said, turning to him. ‘’We’re gonna need eye protection and ear defenders.’’ With that, he handed a pair of headphones to Theta -- blue with the Torchwood logo donned on the sides. He took them and put them on -- and did the same with the yellow-colored glasses. Jack did the same, and picked up yet another automatic. ‘’It’s all yours,’’ he handed it over.
Azura ran across the base of the huge spaceship, her yellow skin was almost glowing in the bright light. Boom! The side of the wall burst open, and the sound of the ear-splitting alarm filled the ship. Azura fell down. She lifted up her hand and grabbed a metal bar. She tried to pull herself up, but she failed. A piece of metal had entered her side. Blood poured from the wound. It felt like someone had just stabbed her with a plasma knife and poured alcohol in it. Azura tried to stand again, but she fell down. She gasped for air, waiting for the oxygen shield to form.
“If only it was as simple as planned,” thought Thomas. Reminiscing on past conversations he recalled the specific words, “Let’s keep this simple, shall we? I don’t the slightest bit of suspicion towards me. When we walk in I will give you the supplies, all you need to do is finish the deal.” After that said, the tall man wearing a trench coat walked away leaving a trail of questions to be answered, but none were asked.
We pulled into the parking lot and I jumped out of the car, the breeze hitting me like a pie in the face. It was overcast and we knew that the rain would be in our favor since it would slow the police down. As we looked for the escape boat, we saw that the police were one step ahead of us; they were looking for our boat as well. We got back in the car and drove to the industrial section of the harbour. “Drive away and tell them I jumped,” I told the driver before he left.
She felt cold, dreary, damp, she tried to open her eyes but something was stopping them from doing so, it was almost like her eyes were not responding to her brain. Consequently, she thought they were frozen but all the sudden, just like that they popped open. The girl sat up. Looking around she realized she was in a tent, there were cots around her but she for some reason she was not in one.
all go away, but I knew it could not. His whole body was shaking. I
One of the most extraordinary scientific discoveries in astronomy has been the findings of exoplanets- planets that orbit stars outside of our solar system. In 1992, Aleksander Wolszczan and Dale Frail announced their discovery of two exoplanets orbiting around a pulsar that was 1,000 light years away from Earth. Then, in 1995, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz discovered the first exoplanet that orbited a star like our sun- 51 Pegasi b (Encrenaz, 2014). These discoveries led to a hunt for exoplanets- with thousands being discovered to date.
Today, I decided to explore the basement. I opened the door and walked down the stairs. As my feet hit the creaky steps, my heart was beating a mile a minute because of what I might find. Once my foot hit the hard ground, I turned my head to see a big, bulky machine right in front of my eyes. It was quite long and dirty, like it was untouched for many years.
