“Now everybody dresses alike. That’s the problem with progress” (Bauer 53). That quote is in the book Hope was Here by Joan Bauer. It is explaining how you could always tell who the bad guys were versus who the good guys were in the olden days because the bad guys wore capes and all black. Now everyone dresses alike so it is harder to tell, but if you knew Hope Yancey you could tell she is one of the good ones. Her along with her aunt, Addie, travel around the country looking for places Addie could cook at, most of them being diners. Soon they end up in the small town of Mulhoney, Wisconsin filled with lots of cows, diners, and corruption going on. They had recently found a job at a diner with an owner suffering from cancer, names G.T. who …show more content…
I chose this song because it is saying that they are always there for you no matter what and can always alleviate Hope in her tough times. Whenever Hope needs strength or hope, she can depend on Addie to help her whenever she needs help. One of the most important lines in the whole song “No matter where you go you know you're not alone.” I chose this line because Addie and Hope travel often due to Addie being a cook and wanting to help out diners all around the country. So sometimes Hope feels alone and like she has nobody, but Addie is there to remind her that she will always be there for her. In a way, Addie could be considered superman, like in the song, because she is always there to “save” a diner from complete disaster with her scrumptious food. Addie is also there to save Hope during her random anger outbursts as well as her problems with fitting in with people her own age like superman would save someone. Whenever Hope needs a friend, she can always count on here mom, …show more content…
I chose this song because a lot of people think that they are just one person and that they can not change the world. In the song when Platten sings “Like a small boat on the ocean sending big waves into motion...I might only have one match but I can make an explosion. Hope is one of those people, she thinks that by being positive to a person you may be able to change not the whole world but maybe someone’s world. She thinks that you can do this when she says “I’m doing my best to make life nice for everyone, but it’s not like this is the only table I’ve got” (Bauer 63). She is basically saying that you should strive to be nice to everyone, even though sometimes you will encounter people who are just antithesis and terrible. You can make monumental change through your actions, whether they are positive or negative. Hope realizes that her voice is the only thing she has got, but she has the ability to move mountains with it if she would just let it break
For example, one line, “Soon our pilgrimage will cease; Soon our happy hearts will quiver, with the melody of peace,” which is saying that one day we will die, and you can’t stop that. “Lay we every burden down; Grace our spirits will deliver, and provide a robe and a crown,” also reveals that you should appreciate what we’ve had, and what was given to us. This song is telling you, in every line, that you can’t live forever, but appreciate what you have, while you
The fact that once time is gone, it’s gone for good. There is no making up for lost time, and you cannot change what you didn’t do. Enjoy life while you can because there is no making up for it when you are no longer busy. It’s easy to hear and listen to advice, but it is much more difficult to follow through with advice in the moment. The song uses the imagery of a man’s life passing by and how it has influences his son’s
She gets to the point and proves that in our current world we tend to say more than we should, when just a couple of words can do the same. In her writing, it is evident that the little sentences and words are what make the poem overall that perfect dream she wishes she were part of.
The song sends a positive and peaceful aura; John Lennon hopes we can all live as one. He establishes his credibility, or ethos, by being one of the original
The ballad sung by Billie Holiday, “Willow Weep for Me”, is done in a 32-bar song form. The ballad follows the AABA form by having two choruses, followed by a bridge, and ending off with a final chorus. There is an introduction from 00:00 - 00:17 and the first chorus starts as soon as Billie Holiday makes the first sound. Her vocals are the start of every chorus and her saying the title of the ballad is the end of every chorus. The first chorus starts at 00:17 and goes till 00:51, when she has said “weep for me”.
We have the chance to give the future generation a gift. We can give them the answers before they encounter the questions. We can give the help theyíll need before they need it. No oneís perfect when dealing with life. Weíre only here for a short time, why not make it the best time you can? Life throws things at people and one has to be able to cope and learn to solve them as best as they can. As Rolling Stone eloquently put it, ìthe lyrics address the need to cope (Wiederhorn).î In life, people are going to encounter problems no matter how hard they try to get around them. This song recognizes that fact and addresses it. The truth seems hard to come by these days. In my life, it is something I strive to give and receive. Thereís no telling how many times one person has been lied to. Letís just not mention that whole Lewinsky thing. ìBittersweet Symphonyî donates the truth to the future. No sugarcoating or hiding of facts takes place. The lyrics say, ìtry to make ends meet youíre a slave to money then you die . . .î As life is, the song is inclusive of the good and the bad. Without the bad, how would we know of the good and vice versa? This common thread of truth connects us and the future.
This song talks a lot about the baggage of the past that people hold onto instead of letting it go. All that baggage is only going to end up hurting you more and more instead of helping you in any way possible. An example is the opening
The message the author is trying to convey is the creation of a perfect world. This concept seems imaginary, seeing that there has never been a time when there was no evil in the world. Since the beginning of time, hearts were captivated with greed and self obsession, but now is the time for a change. This author is showing that our world has been so bad for such a long time. Through this song we are reminded that we desperately need a change, not in 20 years or 20 months or 20 minutes but now. We desperately need a change in this world and we need it now, this talks about the urgency of this demand. You see, it doesn 't say I will be ready to create it, it says I am ready. It is an individual striving for a movement, because that 's what
CSNY is profoundly successful in conveying their message in the song by using the right lyrics and vocals accompanied by the tune of the guitars. “Helplessly Hoping” can be interpreted in so many ways that in either way it, nonetheless, will insinuate on the same thing, which is love. As they put it love is not lying, and it will always be around. Listening to the song can put one in an emotional roller-coaster that its theme can be known beforehand. This perplexed relationship describes the essence of love, and its implications. It reflects on how love can be capricious, which gives a sense of mystery. The harmony of the group in the song makes it one of my favorites, and puts it in my top list of love songs in all times.
He states that there is nothing comparable to what is on the inside. He states “you're a star, don't let 'em tell you you're not” (Line 36). This suggests that a person has to look in on themselves and realize that they are a star. I believe that looking in on myself I realize all of the things I am able to accomplish. I also realize that when people try to put me down its just because they are hoping that I do not succeed. I use this hate in my life to motivate me and help me accomplish my goals. One of the deepest quotes in the song is “Cause what's real is something that the eyes can't see, That the hands can't touch, That them broads can’t be, and that's you” (Line 39-41). This quote has a really deep meaning. The tangible things in life do not compare to what is on the inside of a person. The qualities that cannot be seen such as their personality really sets a person apart from others. I believe that I have a personality that is often over shadowed by the features of my physical character. I try to be as outgoing as I can such as involving myself in a lot of different activities. I think that is what sets me apart from a lot of different people is using my personality to succeed in life. Going back to the accounting fair example I used I was able to interact with those people efficiently because my personality allowed me to. I even had two firms tell a teacher I had that I was one of the best people they talked
The song that I choose to do this assignment on is Fight the Power by Public Enemy. Fight the Power was written in 1989 and quickly became a street anthem for millions of youths. It reflects with issues dealing with both the Civil Rights Movement and to remind everyone that they too have Constitutional Rights. This particular song is about empowerment but also fighting the abuse of power that is given to the law enforcement agencies. It gave citizens of the U.S a more modern outlook on the many struggles that not only the African American community is up against but the other minority groups as well. The song’s message was eventually supposed to bring people together and make the world a better place, even though some teens saw it as a way
He encourages the reader or listener to break the rules, or they will not enjoy life as much as they should. These two stanzas set the theme for the rest of the song. He tries to find the good in everything, saying in the chorus that “all that glitters is gold”. He says “So what's
... song represent the lack of power or control the lovers have on external jurisdiction. The powers of fate and fortune also dominate this scene as discussed above.
The sheet music for this song was written very steady and simply. This allowed the song to be understood and the audience could focus more on the lyrics. More than anything, this song stood out to me because it is an anthem for peace. This song is over four decades old and civilians are still familiar with the words and messages this song portrays. One of the main parts of the song was the lyrics, “Imagine there's no countries. It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for and no religion too. Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope one day you will join us, and the world will live as one.” Their is absolutely no reason the world shouldn't live as one! We are one
