The secret weapon behind education relies on the solidarity and respect of students. Rancho Solano Private School (RSPS) opened its door in 1954 at the Missouri Campus. In 1979, RSPS opened their second facility in the Union Hills Campus; twelve’s years later Greenway Campus was established, and by 2003 Gilbert Campus open their doors. Their foundation and reputation were having a fine tradition of academic excellence with the finest education. Rancho Solano goals were based on having a safety environment for students, and allowing parents to have a wealthy family oriented community. Imagine, the parent’s frustration, the students anxiously, and the teachers stressed not knowing what their future held. Parent’s believe that their child 's education should never be tested nor deny because it is something that no one could ever take away. This paper will look at from the perspective as a consultant hired by the directors at RSPS to check the situation and addressing the changes of the organization.

In 2010, Beachwood High School hired Dirk Dagger as principal. The previous principal was beloved Phyllis Knowles who worked at Beachwood for two years. Prior to Phyllis was Joe Gates who left his first principalship after only two years. Preceding to Joe, Lonna Self led the high school for four years and was forced out by the board. All of the principals lived outside the local community and commuted long distances to work. Dirk's two assistant principals, or AP's, were Frank Fischer, a young, highly talented former business education teacher for six years, in his second year as AP. The second AP was Sara Shad, a 28 year veteran English teacher at the high school, in her fourth year as AP. The administration was aware that culture changes existed in the school with the continued influx of Arabic families into Dearborn Heights.
CPS, with a $6.6 billion FY2013 budget, is now taking a new strategy based upon a flawed “Student-Based Budgeting System”. The Board of Education is also struggling to solve the debt they have reached, and with their FY2014 plans, this year’s budget book is argued to be “one of the most poorly written budgets”. The way CPS is handling their budget is not benefiting the lives and education of students and is leaving CPS at a loss with giant financial issues. Parents want the best for their children, no question, and the highest educational standards will be something that parents have at the top of their list. There is enough support to say that people who have received better education have gotten further in life.
Thomas Jefferson was a man who believed that all American citizens need to be educated so that they may exercise their rights. He saw public education as essential to a democracy. One proposal he made for public education would guarantee that all children could attend public schools for three years. However, much like other early school reforms, this proposal received much rejection and was never brought into being. Despite this rejection, Jefferson still believed that America needed public education. Eventually, he opened the University of Virginia. In the study of The Way Schools Work we learned to question the ideals of meritocracy and the American dream. However, Conflict Theories challenge the system of meritocracy, in which people are sorted and selected on the basis of talent and ability. On the contrary, “Conflict Theories, on the other hand, imply a system of inheritance in which people’s life chances are largely determined by their starting point within an existing structure of inequality” (McNamee and Miller Jr. 2014, 11). According to these theorists mentioned in The Way Schools Work (Boudin 1974; Bowles and Gintis 1976; Carnoy 1972; Carnoy and Levin 1985; Persell 1977), they speak about how schools reproduce status in several ways. “When schools, parents, families, and communities work together to support learning, students tend to earn higher grades, attend school more regularly, stay in school longer, and enroll in higher level programs.” (Van Roeckel, 2008, p. 1) Deer Valley High School in Glendale, AZ is the first high school built in the Deer Valley Unified Scholl District, and with a population around 1800 students, the high school is one of the bigger schools in the state. It has a tradition of family on its’ campus, where there are still teachers teaching that were there when the school opened in 1980. A number of former students have become new teachers on campus and just about all the teachers’ children have attended and graduated from the campus. With a school like ours, there are many connections to the community around it and it is demonstrated by the programs that bring in parent and community to help with the development of our students. There are numerous booster clubs run on our campus to help support student achievement on the sports fields, a school to work programs to teach the students necessary skills in different areas of either nursing, sports medicine classes, and in the culinary arts classrooms, and funding to our school to help ensure all students graduate on time. There are many programs on our campus, but I will discuss four of the programs: baseball booster club, C2G program, “school-to-work”, and the special education program sponsored by Arrowhead Hospital. These programs are designed to improve the relationships between the campus and the people in the community, and give all students on campus every opportunity to succeed in their future.

After reading Joel Spring?s book, and reflecting on some of the issues facing our schools, it is apparent that our educational system requires much attention among our nation?s leaders. While the system has transformed in many beneficial ways, we are still plagued by the growing problems of society. I look forward to reading another book by Joel Spring, and developing my evolving understanding of the educational system within the United States.
In conclusion, reconstitution is an ineffective solution because it judges schools based on faulty policies, and can put a school in a desperate situation. These policies have turned public education into a game, and an unfair one at that. When put under this pressure, administration makes pointless reforms in order to give the illusion of improvement, even though there is more evidence of failure than success. KIPP’s School District still focuses on enforcing a different teaching concept as compared to public schools. They implement bright colors, singing, and hand motions into everyday learning. This keeps the students attention and helps with their involvement. KIPP’s business level strategy would still be focused differentiation. They focus on kids that live in poverty and are failing in a normal public school. Most of the children that live in these areas are minorities. “There is 58,000 students, more than 88 percent qualify for free or reduced-price meals at school, and 95 percent are black or Latino” (Monahan). With most of the students living in poverty, the teachers need to pay special attention to them and have commitment plan with the student’s parent. This means the teachers need to put in more hours than most teachers in public schools. This has caused a low retention rate for KIPP teachers. There are also major issues with funding and management. These are some of the major issues shown in the 2012/13 case
So as to improve the K-12 education, the United States needs to redesign the high schools. The initiative by the president to redesign the high schools is significant in encouraging the schools to use the available resources. Schools together with their partners should take into using the resources that exist effectively. These resources are in the local, state and the federal so as to transform the experience in the high schools for the youth through energy of the whole school redesign. This effort of redesigning the high schools will help challenge them and their partners in rethinking learning and teaching. Dr. Ray’s nationwide research indicates that more than 90% percent of the parents do not hold valid, government approved teaching certificates (2009). Whereas, all teachers, both public and private, have those certificates, and are taught, trained and certified to teach each certain aged students (“Home Schooling” 2011). Since the quality of education neither monitored nor regulated by the government, it is doubtful to trust the quality of education that parents provide to their children (“Home Schooling”, 2011). The cultures at schools are important to the success of the students and overall of the school, but also can be very difficult to establish and maintain without the proper leadership knowledge (Waite, 1995). When all stakeholders share similar core values and agree on the aims of education, reform efforts stand a better chance for success. Knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and citizenship are core values found at the heart of my beliefs for education. I also believe it is the aim of education to prepare students as contributing members of society. In schools where core values and education aims are revisited due to reform implementation, strategies are identified along with a plan for implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The federal government, state, districts, school leadership, teachers, students and parents all have significant responsibilities to make reform efforts a success.
Commercialization of education is a new trend that has resulted in reforms in the education sector. The commercialization of education can be seen through the increase of private schools and institutions. This privatization has introduced the financial element to the qualifications necessary for education, especially in regard to higher education. Commercialization of education requires structural adjustments, shifts in accountability and reconceptualization of the education system. This commercialization has an effect on many households and therefore changes the whole concept of education, especially the student teacher relationship, the purposes of education and the attitudes towards education. Commercialization of education has a greater effect on the stakeholders involved, such as the student’s teachers, administrators and parents because of the shift from the vertical relationship in a horizontal relationship where the role of the teachers and that of the student changes to that of a business and clients (Bok 75).
