Over the years soda has become a staple in our lives, and is unfortunately extremely toxic to our bodies. Which is why we need to make the effort to limit the amount we drink and make ourselves aware of the risks we expose to our health when choosing to drink soda. Imagine yourself, drinking soda all day with your friends, having a chugging contest to see who can drink the most soda. You would think that this can’t harm you, but that was until next morning when you’re admitted to the hospital with signs of heart problems. Cancer is deathful disease that can take the lives of millions. If we do not stop the ongoing flood of sodas in the world, then the numbers of people with cancer will increase. A recent investigation by Consumer Reports, found that “many types of artificial caramel coloring, used in virtually every dark-colored soda, contain a potentially carcinogenic chemical called 4-methylimidazole (4-MeI). 4-MeI was found to cause cancer in mice in 2007 and was declared a potential carcinogen in 2011. In 2016, an estimated 1,685,210 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 595,690 people will die from the disease.” These number will change the world for the worse. Some people might say that it’s the people’s choice and their freedom to drink as much as they want. However, if public places continue to advertise and sell and even expand the taste of soda, many people would want it. Ultimately, if we cut the down the number of soda the future generations will consume, then the number of cancer patients will significantly decrease.
