How has Social policy and Legislation evolved to what we have today in Britain, in order to support young children and families with better child protection.

Social policy’s mainly focuses on the study of social services and the welfare state. It looks at the awareness of social welfare, and the relationship it has with politics and society. REF More specifically, it also considers in depth issues in policy and administration of social services, such as; policies for health, housing, income maintenance, education and social work; needs and the issues affecting the users of services, including poverty, old age, health, disability, and family policy; and the delivery of welfare (Spicker,2014).

An act in particular which has been through this process is Every Child Matters (2003), this green paper was developed by the previous labour Government and the proposals of Prime minister Tony Blair for the need to improve the delivery of services for children, young people and families. It builds on current procedures to ensure that we protect children from risk of harm and neglect, also, from negative outcomes, and support all children in developing to their full potential (ECM, 2003). Tony Blair was the Prime Minister at the time of this case; he was required to answer the Payne’s requests for an update on child protection laws and this was recognised. It can be questioned the reasons for Blair’s reasons to assist to the requests for Sarah’s law, for instance, it could be due to wanting to stay in power, with upcoming elections.
